Getting My QFF Points Back - Help Required

OzBargainers, I need your assistance.

500k of my points expired during the last couple of years primarily due to me going through cancer treatment (all good now) & COVID.

After a year of battling with on and off, they have put forward to me a 'challenge' - I need to earn 2500 points in the next 6 months from 2 different sources.

So, apart from flying what's the easiest way to earn these points? I'm thinking through a credit card and then fill up at BP or something.

I'm just hoping I get approved for another credit card.

Qantas wine would be an easy way. Then do a bit of shopping linking from the qantas store, I bought some shoes from culture king recently because they're having a decent sale and you'll earn 4x points.

    Congrats on beating cancer!

Lots of options if you don't want to go down the credit card route - Order one of the bonus points options from wine.qantas.com (e.g you can currently order a $69 bottle with 3000 bonus points). You could transfer some woolworths everday rewards points, order something from marketplace.qantas.com for the other source etc.

Some non-credit card options would be to have Woolworths Everyday rewards paid as qantas points plus you could use the Qantas Wellbeing app to gain points for steps and sleeping.

  • Qantas credit card + track a purchase on ebay through the qantas marketplace.

  • Are sign-on bonus points from Qantas insurance products allowed?

    • I'm waiting on them to send me an email with the details. I want it clear that bonus points are included, points from a new CC sign up is included, buying from Marketplace & wine are the same or different sources etc.

They wanted me to accept the challenge over the phone with no detail. I told them to send me an email and then i'll decide.

  • This seems really weird.

I doubt they'll let you just get points from a CC signup, I'm guessing there will be some strict conditions as to the acquisition of the points that will require you to spend real money on something you may or may not have wanted to get.

    • That's what I'm thinking. Getting a credit card or a bottle of wine and petrol seems all too easy. That's why I want it in writing.

It was weird the way they were pushing me to accept the 'challenge' with no detail.

  • …they have put forward to me a 'challenge' - I need to earn 2500 points in the next 6 months from 2 different sources.

2,500 points is pretty easy, but I hope you have this "challenge" in writing somewhere or a note recorded on your file/account.

    • thats what i would be questioning..

so if you earn 2500 points in 6 months, you'll get your points back ?

  • Woolworths Rewards = Buy a Gift Card at 20X bonus points! ($200 GC = 2400 points) , the fill up at BP for 100 points

    • Where are you seeing the 20X gift cards? I can see the apple one only and I'm an android guy

      • In their weekly catalogue, every few weeks, they have various GC at 20X bonus points. It is Apple GC this week As you have a few months to complete this actvity, you should be able to find the Gift Card that you want.

  • The detailed email:

I hope this email finds you well. As promised I am writing you this email regarding the challenge that you need to earn 2500 from two different sources in order for you to reinstate your expired points, for example you will need to earn points from a partner credit card with Qantas that would be one source and the other source it could be from a marketplace, basically it should be from two different sources for the 2500 points

    That is it.

Well there you go any source is fine - Considering 500k points is a decent chunk of change I think any of the rapid options are best as once they are credited to your account you can take it off your to do list :)

      • absolutely! wine here we come!

Why T F would Qantas make the OP jump through all these hoops?

The OP has given an explanation of why they could not use the points, its a lot of points, just give it back to him.

At worst just tell him any transaction to keep it alive will reset the timer.

    • What if it's a scam email?

OP tread carefully, make sure they're not emailing you from [email protected] lol

After a year of battling with on and off, they have put forward to me a 'challenge' - I need to earn 2500 points in the next 6 months from 2 different sources.

Open up a bankwest account https://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/bank-and-save/bank-acco…

Put money into it, you earn 0.3 Qantas Points for every $100 in your account each day on balances up to $50,000.

$5k for 30 days is 450 points a month. You just then need to get qantas points from something else and you'll be easily done in no time.

  • Check here as well for some more shops, hotels,etc.. - https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/earn-points.html

  • I had the same challenge when my points expired during COVID. I did the Qantas well-being app and Optus+Qantas plans. Probably will get downvoted now for suggesting Optus, but it is an option. You can cancel the plan or port out after you get your points in 3 months.

I got my points back automatically after I reached the required amount, no phone call back to QFF needed.

I had to do the same challenge for my mum's expired points earlier in the year. If you haven't signed up to Kayo and Binge before you can do what I did.
Sign up to Binge for a month for 1000 points. $9
Sign up to Kayo Premium for a month for 1500 points. $35

I think when I did it the promos were slightly different and I paid around $35 total.

  • Bankwest account has 10000 bonus points atm

  • Can confirm this is is the way they offer to recover expired points and I got it back with credit card conus and the wellbeing app. I think I also transferred some points from my Woolworths everyday account

  • Or sign up to Red energy just to get 10,000 points and switch.

  • Thanks so for the comments. Signed up to nine and kayo for a month. Now just waiting for the points🤞
