I have 1 of these, great unit, but need to tuck it behind something, as the blue LED power indicator is so bring, that it's enough to make the whole dark room blue.

look up "Light Dimming Stickers" i use them on everything

        Or cheaper still, Blu Tack.

        • Love that others do this too. have like 4 powerboards around the house with blue tack on it.

@ONEMariachi: I have a mini teeny soundbar under a monitor for Teams calls. I didn't realise when I bought it that it a) had RGB and b) had RGB that couldn't be turned off. As I'm not 13 I don't want flashing colours at me all day. Had to take the back off and cut the wires.

I've got an Orange Pi in one room that misso has insisted I Blu Tak the power and NIC LEDs on too.

I wonder if we could reverse global warming if teens just stopped burning power to have their fans glow funny colours. They might as well just go punch a dolphin in the face.

    • do they come with a VESA mount? Can't find any reference on the listing, and seems to be a decent alternative to the PC I currently use for Zwift (Core i7-2600 in a tower case)

      • I do remember it comes with a metal plate that I believe it's for VESA mount. Didn't inspect it in detail I just put it aside as don't plan to use it. Could have another look for you tonight.

        • thanks :)

think I'll pull the trigger anyway on this, as the current PC diong these duties is noisy, slow and no bluetooth, which makes it a pain to use for the purpose

  • x3camels shows this was $671 past month, $7.08 not much of a saving

EDIT: still deal worthy, comparable beelink is $848.92 which hasn't been cheaper

  • on the site itself it shows 359 USD = 564.576324 AUD did not check shipping though

  • how's warranty/quality MINISFORUM vs beelink/other cheap brands VS. intel/asus/msi nuc/mini pc's etc…

eventually want something to thrash without it dying on me

I had issue before so it needed to be returned.
I needed to take a video of the issue. The approval for return was easy and quick via email.
The shipping cost was firstly advised to me as not refundable. But i worked it out with Minisforum customer support for $50 USD refund.

My issue was seemed be with the power supply although i've returned the whole unit. When it worked, I was impressed by the performance with the form factor.

If you buy via Amazon, i reckon return process is a lot easier in the first 30 days. After that, it'll be the same policy and process.

  • These AMD nucoffs seem to be good value compared to Intel's offering, big selling point is better iGPU. I don't see Warranty mentioned once on Amazons page, so not sure how amazon would handle it if it died after 1 year.

I am not sure, what your planning with your new project, but if your going ESXi lab, double check it has an Intel NIC and check your software its looking for VMX Flags only.

aren't Amazon bound by the manufacturer warranty just like any other reseller?

      • Its a good question, its been sold on amazon.com.au, maybe Australian laws are adhered too?

        • +1

I think this covers manufacturer warranty?

"This policy does not restrict or alter any non-excludable statutory consumer protections or rights you may have, including under the Australian Consumer Law. "

    • i don't think iGPU is a selling point if using this as a hypervisor, although just found a guide for proxmox but depending on needs is a lot of messing around and involves flashing a vBIOS which could void warranty

      this summarises what i've seen

No, you pass through the whole APU or nothing, AMD has no equivalent to Intel's GVT-g support for splitting up the APU between the host and the guest.

That said, I haven't heard of anybody being successful passing through the APU. It would at least require the guest to load a suitable vBIOS for it so it can be initialised (like the vBIOS that lets the guest UEFI init Intel iGPUs).

next im wondering if USB4 can be used with iGPU

  • Reading some reddit posts, sounds like this model has heating and throttling issues.

200BTU UM773 vs 155BTU SER6 Pro better cooling than the competition

edit: didn't realise MAX version has better heatsink

    • yeah, finding the same thing - looks like the Beelink SER6 MAX is more reliable due to better cooling… $848 for 32GB with 512GB SSD, but doesn't say what it normally is on the listing - this is an always-on device for me, so might keep looking

I was reading a review of one of the Beelink units the other day and they did a parts breakdown and it was mostly industrial-grade SKUs and stuff like that. They seemed to think that was a bad point. I'm kinda thinking that if a component is suitable to be used in a bit of kit in half the dusty, noisy, hot, shaky industrial places I've seen then that might be a good thing.

      • +5

I got the SER6 MAX from last Prime Day sale. I really like it. So fast compared to my 3 y/o laptop. It can play Dota2 at ~100fps on a QHD screen.

      • Depending on your requirements you might find the 5800H powered units from Beelink or others more suitable due to slightly lower power consumption (45W max)

        • i'd prefer 7735HS for better power efficiency, you should be able to lower power consumption within bios to 15W, 28W, 30W, 35W, 45W, 54W and Auto

AMD claimed that the Ryzen 7000-series processors will be able to operate with 62% less power while maintaining the same level of performance as Ryzen 5000-series processors

Alternatively, Ryzen 7000-series processors can deliver up to 49% better performance than Ryzen 5000-series processors while consuming the same amount of power.

source image for desktop but mobile processors should be similar

          • @mantra: The 7735HS units are much more expensive though

promo has ended however price is similar, so wouldn't consider it expired although as commented above it was never really a deal in the first place

$671 - month prior to this deal
    $663.92 - this deal
    $664.99 - current price (829.99-$165 coupon checkbox)

im expecting cheaper black friday although steering away from the AMD mini pc's due to poor virtualisation with iGPU hoping for deal with 12th gen intel with xe graphics which supports SR-IOV and can get 30fps in a lot of recent AAA titles on 720/1080p with low settings, just to find a decent deal
