It's not a cheap monitor, but it is very nice. High refresh rate OLED monitor for true HDR gaming. No it's not a bang for buck monitor.

imagine spending that much not even getting 4k

    • Depends on what you want it for. After having 4k monitor, I have found that I prefer the 3840 x 1600 resolution instead for general browsing and even for games, I find it plenty. 4k resolution I found some weird scaling behaviour with a few programs. I dont think 4k is necessarily always better, especially if you dont have a high end graphics card

don’t know what you smoking I’ll take 60hz 4k over lower res anyday for casual gaming. all console games are designed and optimised for 4k

        • +1

After playing at 120fps, 60fps feels awful

          • @piston3461: depends on game

for casual gaming 4k 60 is fine

you can buy 4k 120hz oleds too you know they’re often on sale for under 1.5

        • +1

There is not a big jump going from 1600p to 4k in quality. You just increase the load on your graphics card. Console games arent usually played on these monitors. ANyway to each their own

          • @jar-unit: a lot of games are console ports tho

since when did pc gamers settle for less than console gamers, how times change

            • @abctoz: "Less than". Consoles run games at reduced quality settings, reduced framerate and with upscaling to reach that 4K. It's a necessary trade-of since that 4K native res is all that's available.
I prefer to max out graphics settings at lower resolutions (within reason).

        • I went from 4K60 27"to 1440p144 27" and it's no contest for anything other than maybe turn based games. Once you play an FPS game at 120fps+ on a 120hz+ display you'll never go back.
I still have both monitors and use the 4K for work and the 1440p for games.

          • @WorstAgreeableRadish: for competitive high refresh better, but you can get 240hz+ panels now

casual games designed for ps5 can be won on a controller don’t need high refresh

there is something to be said about immersion you get with big tv

  • I would have pulled the trigger if I were targeted for the Amex cashback deal. Will HODL until BF.

    • Yeh we might be holding to Boxing Day sales tho, closer to CES early Jan when new models likely to launch

  • +1

Thanks OP, with the AUAFFILIATES5% and Amex 10% back it comes in at a smidge over $1220.

Only $20 off normal price, I'll wait.

  • Any recommendations for non-gaming ultra wide monitors for work and internet browsing?

Only watch some YouTube but not much moto movies

  • Great price for the 34 inch model. Hoping the 38 inch model AW3821DW goes on sale too this month/next month as that is what I am waiting for.

  • Should I pull the trigger or is there a chance this will be cheaper next week for BF?

  • +1

If you can wait….wait for the new Alienware monitors….they should drop in Jan/Feb and they destroy this monitor for probably a little bit more money.

    • Might do that, when are they dropping? Do you have a source?

      • Here is the link for the two new monitors

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDr8e7wpi0Q

Trying to find the link for the estimated release date

Edit - I am waiting for the 32 inch.

      • Leaks suggest early next year. They’re releasing 32” 4K 240hz monitors. Personally I’m not waiting because I like the 21:9 aspect ratio but 4K OLED is end game technology.

    • I doubt it'll be for a little bit more money. those new 240hz 4k OLED panels will cost at least 1300 US. Here in Aus, likely between 2-3k.

Thanks Op, I got it down to $1327 with my corporate discount coupon 👌

  • Bought this as jb refused to price match the similar DW model

    • Tbf the DW is actually nearing its product life and can’t be purchased in some countries overseas already. If you ever got burn in on the DW they’d just replace it with a DWF which seems to be the better model and has a plethora of features that are missing on the DW.

I personally pick DW over DWF. Also for anyone who considers between 34 vs 38.

I believe this AW3423DW / DWF is QD-OLED Panel, the other 38 comes with different type of panel

    Hope this help

  • What do people think about QD mini-LED gaming monitors like the Cooler Master CP27U? 27" 4K 160Hz, HDR 1000 compatible, 576 dimming zones, etc for $999 - hopefully cheaper during black friday.

With all the scare-mongering about burn in & how next gen QD-OLEDs are xx% less likely to burn in, they seem pretty attractive to buy considering I'm happy with the mini-LED displays on iPad Pros and MacBook Pros.

I had a 42" C2 from the earlier $899 deal for a few months before accidental damage took it out - with how I had to baby the monitor to avoid burn in (e.g. black wallpaper, autohide taskbar, 2min monitor sleep settings) it makes me think twice before buying an OLED monitor again when they're so expensive.

  • What’s text rending like heard it was crap

  • Got this monitor back in August for $1309 (negotiated price with Dell rep) and it's honestly one of my best PC related upgrades in years. Currently running the monitor under Creator mode in sRGB colour space and I am getting very (what I perceived as) accurate colours after calibration. Having used it for a while I thought the text rendering issue was overblown but others may be more sensitive to it so I don't know. Running the panel at 120Hz 10-bit colour by setting it in custom resolution in NV control panel without having to touch any of the other timings/settings (even 144Hz works but I do get the occasional glitching flickering lines when gaming). I use the monitor for gaming and photo editing and it's just amazing to look at.
