Not Satisfied with Car Smash Repair

Hi all, I had sent my car to the Hyundai workshop for major service, while it was there it got scratched and taillight damaged.

Gap on the other side.

Workshop offered to repair for me and provided a replacement car. Trouble is, I am bothered with the repair done. There is visible gap between the taillight and the body. I normally wipe my car every few weeks, never noticed a gap.

I did not receive any report of the damage and repair done. The Hyundai place refused to take any responsibility for the repair.

Is there anything that can be done?

  • Was it a private repair or through an insurance claim?

    • The mechanic in the servicing centre offered to fixed it. So i dont know how they did that

Ok. Talk to the dealer principal and explain your concerns.

        • I tried, they arent great at responding

  • What's the gap like on the other side?

I'm guessing they just repaired the old bumper instead of replacing it along with the retention brackets and clips.

Looks like there's a lot of orange peel in the paint as well but Hyundai's are notorious for that from factory.

      Attached a photo

The gap in the first photo and second photo look almost identical.

Go and compare it to other identical cars and see what the gap is like on those.

I thought the same but the gap may have been caused by the accident deforming the bumper, retention brackets etc.

If it has even opened up, it has opened up maybe 1 or 2 mm… not 10.

I'm surprised though, being OzBargain and all, that OP wasn't demanding an entire replacement vehicle or seeking an extortionist amount of "CoMpEnSaTiOnZ!!!1!"

Obviously they are trying to scam the OP ๐Ÿ˜‰

        • I was clueless. They called me initially to confirm that im happy to get my car for road test which i had alr signed for. Then gave me the bad news.

    • Thats what they tried to put me off but I normally wipe my car every few weeks, never noticed a gap.

There is visible gap between the taillight and the body.

You mean the one that was there before it was repaired too?

    • I meant after the repair

      • +1

There is a visible gap before the repair as well. The gaps look the same, before and after.

  • Maybe itโ€™s the photo angle but the gap between the bumper and the rear panel looks wonky too. Touching near the light with bigger gap down the bottom?

  • I have one of my cars at a smash repairer atm… I quizzed them on what they were going to do (quite significant damage to rear bumper and tailgate). I shit you not, the guy said "parts for this vehicle are quite expensive, so we are going to repair them". My jaw dropped at this point because I know there is significant damage to the metal and internals of the tailgate as I inspected myself with an flexi inspection camera.

This is all because the money in smash repairs is all gone due to insurers easily writing off most vehicles for non complex damage. The price of bumpers and windows and all kinds of random parts are sky high.
