Website description:

Fully Licensed by the BBC, and hand-assembled by Falcon in Oxford England.

It is the only LS3/5a now in production that is recognised to faithfully replicate the original design published by the BBC in October 1976.

The drive units are the renowned Falcon B110, and the Falcon T27 tweeter, both designed by Malcolm Jones, the original designer of the KEF B110 and KEF T27 that were specified in the original 15 ohm LS3/5a version designed by the BBC.

Both drive units are handmade in the UK to ensure the highest quality, grading and consistency, and are identical to the original LS3/5a drive units. They are unique to Falcon and Thehifishop.

The matched 15 ohm BBC Specification FL6/23 filter networks are made exclusively by Falcon in the original transformer-style to BBC Specification and contain inductors specially made in Britain for Falcon to the original specification.

The cabinets are made from specially selected graded Baltic Ply, and use Beech fillets Cabinets. They are British-made to BBC Specification and are available in a variety of natural wood veneers (see other Falcon LS3/5a listings in the Thehifishop Store for current veneers) with a Tygan Cloth front grille.

Falcon Acoustics LS3/5a’s are sold in matched pairs only, and are supplied with an Instruction Manual, Individually Numbered Certificate of Authenticity, and come with a full 5 year Guarantee on workmanship, parts, and labour.

    • ob, original boaster?

15ohm and 83db sensitivity, these must be difficult for an amp to drive..

    https://www.stereophile.com/content/falcon-gold-badge-ls35a-…

Despite its low (83dB/2.83V) sensitivity, it is completely happy with low-power class-A amplifiers—especially tubes. (On the backside of my old Rogers it says "Handling Capacity: 25 Watts Speech and Music.")

    I guess not.

Great match to my Ffalcon tv

    • Great match to my Soniq tv

  • They look very understated, very retro. So it must be quite impressive to see how much they deliver.

Anyway, back to looking for deals on the Boom 3.

  • Cost more than an average ford falcon

I imagine everyone that owns these would actually narrate that spiel to all their guest when they show them who will respond with … “huh, not bad”.

    • Audiofiles are an odd lot.

I can totally see the novel appeal of these. The LS3/5a is a classic loudspeaker, and an important one in hi-fi history.

With that said, it's still a lot of money to pay for novelty IMO. Loudspeaker design has improved significantly in the last 47 years.

I'd buy a coffee if anyone finds me a deal on Kef R3 Meta

  • +1

hmm 1976 design, might just dust off my kef concertos … you can buy used kef for less than the price of falcon new if you want the B110 bass …..

  • +1

A legendary speaker with a beautiful sound…..and I sold my KEF Concerto's a few years ago and bought floor standing Richters that are still going strong.a mate still has his Concerto's and they still sound wonderful, although I.agree about the advancement in technology. .

  • Last place to post an audiophile deal is here I'd of imagined.

All the usual tropes will be wheeled out.

HiFi is a wonderful hobby/drug and no different from people spending big on cars or the car sound system or constantly updating gaming rigs(well you have to don't you…)

Concerto's came out around 69(I think) and aren't too shabby, LS3/5a's were and are a fantastic standmount and the crossovers were mentioned in despatches long before they became famous. if these are following the same crossovers then they should be a very very good speaker when matched with a proper front end. Some pure class A wattage would do the job nicely I'd imagine.

Would I buy them at this price? Hell no as you can find original refurbished LS3/5a's if you know where to look and they are half this reduced price.
