Essentially Banned from Uber

Ordered Uber Eats that never got delivered. Uber said they will not refund but refused to say how they came to that conclusion and closed off the case. I raised a credit card charge back and the bank found in my favour as Uber refused to interact with the bank.

Now Uber says I have to pay that amount before I can use any Uber services.

Is that fair or reasonable?

i just made a new account using a burner number and linked a different card lol, uber can suck my fudge

    • Use doordash or the takeaway place might offer delivery themselves.

      • i use doordash as well, theyre more easier to deal with

I can't use Uber until I pay them $3 that I apparently owe them.
When I questioned it they said it's from a uber trip I made earlier in the year, the system miscalculated the fare and should of charged me $3 more then what it did and until I pay that I won't be able to use their services. The trip was around $55

I haven't and won't be paying it, it's not the money but the principle of it, I was happy to pay the cost at the completion of the trip.
Doubtful they would have refunded me $3 if I was overcharged that amount.

    • They do refund you if the initial estimate was too much, has happened a few times for me.

      • +1

The estimate was slightly under to what came up on the app at the end of the trip, the amount showing on the app was what I paid but Uber claimed there was a miscalculation when the trip was completed about a month latter.
I have always believed once the trip is competed the fare was calculated and the fare charged to your linked bank details, I'm not sure they can say it was wrong and add the extra charge latter.
Fair enough if it was a $55 fare and I was charged $10 I would know there was a error but when it was a $55 fare with an estimate of $53 I would expect I paid the correct fare.

  • Nah you are not telling the full story, they wouldn't ban you just because one or two delivery doesn't arrive. I drive for Ubereats for pocket money and as far as I know they always refund you if things don't arrive.

  • Same happened to me when uber overcharged me for a trip and claimed I was quoted that price. I know for a fact I wasn't as I showed the price to a taxi driver to try get him to bring his quote down before booking the uber. I did a dispute through PayPal and got my $$ back but couldn't use uber again without paying it back.

I resisted using uber for about 6 months but was forced to pay it when I went to the USA as Uber is the only available rideshare in a lot of cities :(

    • Very brave of you to try to get a taxi driver to price match uber..

      • Eh, it was at the airport so they're all gouging on prices, I know it and they know it. $60 for a 20 min ride is bs.

    • If you were showing that price before you actually booked the Uber, then the price wasn't locked in. There was probably surge at the time, and surge is variable minute to minute. Any price shown is not confirmed until you actually book the far3

      • It was still showing $60 when I booked it though. Jumped to over $80 when I got dropped home.

  • Sorry, rant.

After years of using Uber and all the “I’m so *** lazy and privileged to get up off my ass and get food services” I stopped it as I finally knew how much I was actually spending. The convenience of such services does more damage to your wallet.

And more damage to the restaurants and drivers. The only people winning are Uber.

  • They did this to my wife when they ran an IGA promo with like 40% off. The checkout showed the promo applied and working which we even had screenshots of. She was then charged the full amount - could not get any help from Uber so we did a chargeback. The receipt in app also had her being charged the full amount (no evidence a promo was used wtf). Her account went into negative $100 and she couldnt use the app for some time. Several months later they wiped the debt (no followup or anything) and she was able to use it again.

    • Sounds like they eventually figured out the error. Didn't do you any good at the time though, im sure.

  • OP, what was the dollar amount of the order?

    0-50
    50-100
    100-200
    200+

  • Ordered some grocery via Uber Eats App and it was $14 approx of Coles milk, but the person who delivered purchased a premium brand milk resulting in $20 of those products. I also ordered 4 long life Coles milk and he bought short life lactose free coles milk which was also more expensive. He also did not buy 2L Vinegar worth $2.5.
Uber charged me $8 extra and also didn't get the vinegar.

I raised a charged back with the transferwise card and they got me $8 refund.

I was not banned from Uber and didn't had to pay to continue using services.

  • I try an avoid these companies from now on. Their customer service is either automated or terriable. Things rarely go well and when they go bad they go terriable my bad leaving ur thinking what sort of distopian world are we living in??

I had similar experience of food not delivered from Uber Eat. I would only use delivery if the promotion required it, coz most of the delivery is so unreliable, you better move your lazy ass and go down to restaurant buy it yourself, it would get you exercise and save money.

I used that promotion of get $30 back when spent over $40 published here, ordered $60 food, paid $30 with credit card, mind you, those food would only cost $45 if you order straight from the restaurant and pick it up by yourself.

The app showing driver came to my street 30 mins later, but no one press the intercom while I was waiting inside, then driver sent message asked where I was, I told him I was inside my apartment, where were you? He said he pressed buzz three times, but no one answered. So I told him to wait I would come down, also asked him to confirm the address, then he replied he left the food at door and marked order as delivered. I came down, no food, no driver at sight. I spent 45 mins trawled down the whole street without seeing any food. Needlessly to say NO SOUP for me on a cold and windy Friday night.

Uber did refund me $30 credit card charge, after I complained that promotion was wasted, first they didn't want to do anything said already eefunded, case closed. But I escalated it, next day, they credited it to Uber Cash.

I would still use Uber Eat, but only on a really good promotion. If the promotion require delivery, I would order it then go down to pick the order up by myself. And tell the restaurant to tell the driver I take the food and leave the PIN to the driver.

Don't know why Uber Eat doesn't require some photos to prove driver has made delivery like Amazon.

  • Whether it's fair or reasonable is kind of irrelevant. The money has been refunded, so you are not out of pocket despite the length you had to go to to get that refund.

Any business has a right to choose who they do business with. If they feel you owe them that money then it's reasonable for them to ask for it before doing further business with you. They aren't initiating any collections procedures, you won't have people banging on your door demanding the money.

Dave just chosen to no longer serve you. It might suck, but they are allowed to do so

    • Difference between legal and 'fair and reasonable' though. If Dave was a mechanic, told you he swapped your oil filter but in actual fact did nothing, then banned you from his business when you found out and tried to recover the funds - he is a (profanity). Regardless of legality.

  • Yes, id ban you if I was uber

  • I suspect I'm on my way to getting restricted, thanks to restaurants. In my last 6 orders I've had 2 missing items and an item that was burnt beyond edible. First 2 refunds went through no issues, last one they're reviewing. Ordered heaps of times before that with almost no issues, but will avoid ordering from the places I had issues with, as their poor service makes me look bad. I won't do a chargeback if they don't give me my $7.50 back for the latest missing item, but if there's no protection against things like that anymore I'd be hesitant to use uber again.

  • On a side note I came back from an overseas trip and used Uber at the airport and witnessed a huge argument between a passenger and uber driver as the Uber driver asked him where he wanted to go before entering the PIN and then refused to take the passenger as he was only going to the city and the passenger wanted to go somewhere else. There was a uber customer service rep there as well but didn't do anything except say 'I'll get you another uber'

So Uber is becoming exactly like taxi drivers all over again.
