Purists will thumb their noses but bought this after seeing Poh use it in one of her shows and it gets overwhelming +ve reviews.

Heats up to searing temp within 60 seconds (not just time saving but given soaring power bills that's impt imho) and is brilliant for quick stir fries and for sealing meat and veggies for a couple or small family. Use it a few times a week for 18 months and the non stick surface is still in top shape but it is thin so take care - do all your slicing a separation work BEFORE placing on the wok surface..

    Highly recommended at this price.

I am not the one selling this and have nothing to do with Breville etc. so this will be my last response.

Ask yourself what makes a wok a wok as opposed to a frypan? The answer is its bowl shape and the direction of high gas heat around the base and up the sides of the bowl that have been well seasoned to prevent sticking.

Now take a look at the product specifications on this product as listed on the product page in the link. It has a bowl shape and what they are calling a 'butterfly element' fanning up from the bottom of the wok and up and around the sides in a circular motion high into the wall of the wok to push heat up and emulate the effect of gas style cooking. The non-stick material mimicking a well seasoned wok.

Nothing like a frypan at all.

Frankly I don't care what you call it. All I can tell you is what I know from using it - and that is that it works in mimicking the way a wok works using an electric element. And is a heck of a lot more convenient for the home user with gas prices being so high. Product reviews overwhelmingly agree.

To be clear, my comment is to inform others about how it works and how effective I found it to be, purely to help other OzB members.

        Feel free to ignore it.

yes, I have had one for many, many years and it is still going strong, I still love it - effective and well-made, as a great electric alternative to a conventional wok. I would buy another at this special price if my old Breville wok was no longer working.

Also chiming in, have this and would recommend, though only at the 6 month mark here.

    • Heats up to searing temp within 60 seconds

The instructions say to always preheat for 10 minutes before use.
