It's basically your own private AusPost parcel locker that notifies you when something is deposited and a camera that takes a photo of whoever did your delivery (or would-be-porch pirate). Cool concept but probably way too expensive for most people to consider.

review link goes to a smart plug. Perhaps you meant https://macsources.com/eufy-smartdrop-package-delivery-box-2…

    • Yeah, not sure what happened there. The review was there but it somehow went to the next review further down the page or something? Anyway it's been fixed. Thanks!

Also the delivery guy may just left your parcel on top of this.lol

Going by past experience they'll just throw the parcel at it from a few metres away. It's what they do with the door, gate, garage roller… At least it's easy to hear when the next bit of cast iron cookware arrives though.

        • I get a lot of Amazon deliveries. One guy just couldn't be bordered to walk 2m to the front door. He just stood there and threw the parcel. Caught this on my security camera. The parcel happened to be a ceramic cup and it broke. Sent the item straight back to Amazon for refund.

        • Yep! I often had them just thrown over the fence. The last time an item was throw it landed in my front garden. Took me ages to find it. I started to think someone had stolen it. I reported it to Amazon and ever since then the delivery drivers have rung the door bell and properly delivered my items.

Can any owners comment if posties actually use it or just ignore it and leave the parcel
(or more likely the "we missed you card" on your porch?

I haven't used this one but have some experience with other versions and parcel lockers in general.

I find these home ones particularly laborious because you've got the choice of basically no security (oh it takes a photo? Sucks if your parcel pirate is being COVID safe with a mask) or having to manually give every postie a code when you order stuff.

They also suck because they are always, always too small. If you can't fit a PS5 box in there, it's pointless.

The best option I found was setting up Home Assistant to use the last 5 digits of order codes from my common retailers for my wifi front gate lock and leaving the instruction "Use last 5 digits of order/tracking code (depending on retailer) for gate access" and it works and I never have to think about it. If a porch pirate can parkour over my fence with my Eneloops then honestly they earned it.

        This is genius. Love it.

        +1These are moderately sized
Envisioning the delivery box for a large enough secure box.
Need a larger box to fit each subsequent box order

I think if they can initially parkour over the fence without Eneloops they are likely to be able to backflip right back with ease

Imagines an order of twenty 4-packs

        • Energizer bunny can smell Eneloops at 100 yards

      • How do you grab the order codes and put them through HA?

    • I have this. I got it a couple years ago when Eufy put this on KickStarter. I can say that 100% of the time, the postie has used this and dropped all my parcels in it. The only time they left it on the side is coz it was too big to fit in, but they still opened and tried. This has been the best product for my household for all our deliveries.

      • I too got the Kickstarter. It's great. The annoyances are the firmware never gets updated and there are a few bugs - it'll stop notifying me once the battery is ~30%. I think it was around $230 during Kickstarter. At $699 eufy you're dreaming.

I use one of these instead , since it has the word parcel printed on it and it is my main letter box installed near the street most couriers, especially Auspost guy use it (for the boxes that fit), but there is the occasional inattentive Amazon driver still leaving smaller boxes at the door.

  • what would be the installation location, under the porch( would a postie or courier walk up to this location) or next to the letter post!!

  • +2

I've got a "dumb" one, letter cum parcel box. Auspost drops smaller parcels in the letterbox, so they stay on their motorbike.

Almost all other couriers drop off parcels near there from door

This itself looks easy to steal lol 😆

    • Of course you need to bolt it down

      • +3

Cool, so they'll damage the verandah as well as taking off with the thing.

        • I've been using a parcel box (linked in post below) for over 8 years. Its liquid nailed on to a couple of large concrete pavers, no one has tried to move it so far. Of course mine is a little larger than this. IMO porch pirates are not that aggressive, just opportunistic thieves. I don't think anyone attempting to steal this box or damaging your veranda is a real concern.

  • +1

People will probably just steal the entire unit, contents and all!

I’ve been using non-smart parcel boxes for years (this is what I have), They work fairly well for reasonably large boxes (up to 31x28x22cm) without needing a key combination, or up to 32x30x45 with a key combination, IMHO they are more aesthetically pleasing than having one of these on your veranda / next to your door.
