          You need a virtual check.

    • +1

The novelty of VR wears off really quick. I borrowed my friend for a week and after 3 days I lost interest.

      • Yet you are here.

      • +1

I had such a different experience. Played through Half-Life Alyx three times over Air Link and probably will do so again. Side loading custom songs for Beat Saber 😍. Getting exercise with Pistol Whip. Now with this deal my friends are getting one and I'll get to try multiplayer RPGs.

  • +3

Great price if you want a decent headset.

If you end up loving VR you’ll regret it because the Quest 3 is a huge improvement.

Smaller, lighter, higher resolution, faster chipset, better haptics in the controllers, much better pass through video quality.

    • +1

True… unless budget doesn’t extend for the 3.

The 2 is still pretty capable.

My main obsession at the moment is the wave based shooting in bonelabs. Action so fast, you can’t really even stop to admire fidelity.

    • +2

Worth mentioning it's not actually lighter. Iirc it's actually heavier (insignificantly). The pancake lenses just allow the display to sit closer to your face. In all other ways it's better though.

    • Meh. Aside from the long return window, at this price you'll be able to sell it 2nd hand for almost what you paid for it. Would be an inexpensive additional cost in exchange for huge benefits.

  • +6

Oh man that should hopefully really smash the Gumtree prices.

I nearly got a used one for more than this a month ago

    • +4

Yeah, but there was a similar deal maybe one or two Black Fridays ago and it had little to no effect on second hand prices - I think its easy to forget that not everyone lives on OzBargain like we do!

    • +3

How much face grease can you squeeze from the rubber edge seal on a used headset ? If it's more than a teaspoon, then I'm out.

      • +5

Eww, it literally would have costed you nothing to post that lol

      • +5

That's the other thing - Why would anyone get used for the price they're just about universally asking for?

You'd be absolutely mad not to replace the face pad thing - that's $50. You're also missing out on near-enough $50 worth of referral. So they'd have to be $100 cheaper just to be the same price, in a sense. That's before you worry about the important things like warranty or defects.

At $340 when bundled with $100 Amazon gift card, I don't think it would be sane to buy a used one in good condition, let's say the old 64GB one for PCVR, for any more than $180, absolute max. Because when you add the $50 face pad, and account for the $50 of missing referral credit, it's already $280. Wouldn't you pay the extra $60 for a no questions asked, long return period? Wouldn't you prefer the guarantee it's going to be clean and damage / defect free?

Like, I know not everyone's on OzBargain, but surely an absolute shed load of these things get sold (relative to the market size) when they go on these kinds of sales, and surely that would drive used prices down? It does for every other product, so why not these?

        • Whats this referral credit you speak of?

          • +3

@Levathian: Before you activate a new Quest headset you should use a referral link. Both you and the referrer each get $47 Meta store credit to spend on games.

Ozbargain has a referral system here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/meta.com

Click random to get a random Ozbargainer's referral link. You need to set up a Meta account to activate the referral. Then when you activate a new Quest headset with this account you get the $47 store credit.

            • @Shitforbrains: Wonder why this has not been included on the OP??

            • @Shitforbrains: Bugger, Xmas eve and I can’t get this to work! Every time I try and click through it says the link has been broken 😞

        • So many excellent points, thanks for that comment.

  • +2

Any good vr games? Fps maybe?

    • +1

Same question for this VR headset newbie :)

      • +1

See my reply to the parent comment.

    • +3

If you have a gaming PC you can play Half Life Alyx and it's many many mods on it, for starters.

      • +2

(Sorry I replied to the wrong comment earlier.)

Just mentioning that out of the many good Alyx mods I particularly enjoyed the John Wick-inspired Gunman Contracts, and it’s now becoming a separate full game.

    • +13

      PC or standalone?

For standalone some mostly good ones are:

Population: One (Fortnite. Good but F2P)
      Breachers (R6 Siege)
      Contractors (CoDish with mod support)
Pavlov: Shack (Counter-Strike with mod support. A bit limited compared to the PC version last I tried it)
      Ghosts of Tabor (Tarkov)
Hyper Dash (Unreal Tournament. Good and free)
Grapple Tournament (Unreal Tournament? Haven’t played, but free)
      Onward (trying for a milsim)
      X8 (Overwatch. Just released, haven’t played. F2P)

      Single-player:
      Into the Radius (Stalker)
Light Brigade (Dark Souls with guns)
      Compound (Wolf3D)
      The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners 1 & 2
Pistol Whip (sort of Beat Saber with guns)
SUPERHOT VR (SUPERHOT. Good to start with if you get any sim sickness)
Bonelab (Boneworks. Awful to start with if you get any sim sickness)
Resident Evil 4 VR (Resident Evil 4)
      Tea For God (no comparison)
We Are One (is there a non-VR shooter where you cooperate with your past clones?)
      Rogue Ascent (look, no controllers!)
Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond (Medal of Honor except not great (but gets better after the first hour apparently))
Sniper Elite VR (Sniper Elite except not great)
Mutagen (Metroid Prime (except not great?))
      Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
      Stride: Fates (Mirror’s Edge)

      SP/Co-op:
      Espire 1 & 2 (Metal Gear)
      Crisis Brigade 2 (Time Crisis)

      Co-op:
      After the Fall (Left4Dead)
Drop Dead: The Cabin (semi-L4D-ish zombie defence? Supposed to be good)

You can also sideload VR ports of DooM 1/2/3, Quake 1/2/3, Half-Life, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Prey, Jedi Knight II etc.

    • +1

Bonelabs, Alyx, The Room, Pistol Whip, Walking Dead S&S. Those have been my favourites by far, followed by The Climb, Doom 3, Resident Evil 4, Superhot.

The Star Wars ones are ok (Galaxies edge, etc) - best to play them early on as an intro to VR as the first games above are much better.

    • +1

don't know why anyone hasn't mentioned beat saber. literally the only game that I ever play on my quest2

      • It has been mentioned.

  • +3
    • +3

Thank you. This convinced me to wait for the Quest 4 so I can get the Quest 3 for a deal then.

I had the 2 and it always felt off. Awful god rays, which were worse than on Quest 1 for me. The limited eye adjustments weren’t great either.

Altho for many people $340 is a great price for it.

    • +2

You had to dig deep into the content barrel to pull this out…

If you are mostly using it as a VR slave for PC and the IPD ranges work for you, this deal goes very hard. I do not recommend buying into their app/game and accessory ecosystem.

    • +3

What a silly review. Dude was like:

"Quest 3 is slightly better in several key ways, and only twice the price! So… no reason to buy Quest 2 anymore!"

Dude only the 1% most rich/keen experienced VR enthusiasts are even considering your hardcore mildly-better $1000 headsets.

Way more people in the $500 budget range, and in that range, there's just no other headset anywhere near this good. And it's still a mind-blowing experience.

      • Mind blowing all right. I experienced headaches and dizziness after 10 mins. Seated is a bit better but half an hr later same probs. VR is not for me

        • +3

For most people, if you use it for a few minutes every day (stopping as soon as you get dizzy/headaches) your brain will get used to it and you will be able to spend much longer in VR without problems. That is assuming you have the headset fitted well and the IPD set up correctly. Of course, it is up to you whether you find the experience compelling enough to want to develop a tolerance.

        • +1

To be fair, you can do most of the porn watching in well under 10 minutes.

  • +1

Was just about to buy the 3, should probably hold out for a deal

    • +5

I fear there will be no deals on the 3 this year. They are clearly pushing 2 as the budget option. Hope to be proven wrong.

      • +1

Yeah, I'm so close to buying it when I really don't need it. A deal would secure the sale for me tho

      • They had a Black Friday deal on Quest 2 the year it released (bonus store credit). Hoping for at least something for Q3, but possible this deal is all we’ll get.

        • +1

I think this deal is all we get, do we know if there will be lightning deals tomorrow?

          • @Castcore: Since I wrote that Boz said in an AMA they won’t have any Black Friday deal for Quest 3, so if there is anything (Amazon cashback?) it won’t be from Meta.

  • +34

Remember the $47 meta credit for new users referred to purchase a headset still works for headsets purchased on amazon

    Go to this page https://www.ozbargain.com.au/deals/meta.com

Click 'random' and you get a random ozbargainers referral link.

To accept the referral set up an account. If you’re buying it as a gift and want them to get the meta credit, they should create the account.

When the account logs into the headset you purchased on amazon, youll get the credit.

    • +5

This should be added to the OP

    • Is the referral tied to the device that was purchased? Or simple logging in with any device will do? Asking since I’m considering returning the meta purchased one to order with Amazon.

      • I dont think its tied to the specific device. They have to allow for things like people purchasing them as gifts.

It does have to be a new device.People report having success factory resetting if the device is still pretty new and forgot to accept the referral before activating the device, but I dont know how long that lasts.

Also should be a new account - if you’ve had a quest before when you try to accept the referral it will give an error. Some people on reddit say they got it to work by removing their old device from their account, but a lot of people say that did not work for them.

        • I did create a new account. Was debating whether to open it and activate and rewraping it to put under the tree. Should be safe to return and buy with Amazon then.

      • Unless it’s changed, you can get one credit per account but activating e.g. a used headset that was already used for the referral credit by someone else is fine. Not sure if you can get the credit for both Quest 2 and Quest 3 on the same account or not.

  • Cna u buy two for multiplayer? Don't know much Abt these

    • +1

Yes. There's some very cool VR experiences you can play with/against a friend.

  • +1

Seems not able to pay with credit due to the $100 bonus gift card in the cart. And I forgot the 1.4% cashback :\

    • Just cancel and re-order :)

      • 6 bucks down the drain xD

  • Prefect time

  • +2

Now the only question is, do I hold off and see if the Quest 3 comes down on Black Friday or do I jump and get this now.

    • +1

Pretty big price differential between the quest 3 and outgoing version.

      • +1

Yeah that's true. I'm very indecisive with this sort of thing.

        • +2

Freedom from cables aside, for someone with experience of both, how does the experience of the Quest 2 compare with Sony PSVR (the original - not recent version) running in a PS4 Pro?

Better or worse graphically / clarity etc

          • +1

@fookos: Had psvr (first version) and got quest 2. Big difference. Much clearer and more mobility. Also ability to use connected to computer helps. More games. Must say not a big gamer and probably used quest 2 for 30 or so hours. It wears off. But pretty cool things.

    • I'm going with buy and return if there's a better deal since it's Amazon. I've only returned 1 package so far to Amazon so I don't think Amazon will be fussy about my return

  • +4

I bought it when it first came out when it was $479 with the same $100 deal on amazon. Roughly 2-3 years ago.

All in all, had a great time with it, but ended up selling it. Ultimately the software wasn't there for it, and still isn't.

    • +1

Exactly why this doesn't feel like a deal at all. Not for a 3yo headset.

      • +2

Disagree also. VR has not moved significantly in that timeframe. This is a steal. Godrays/IPD concerns aside, this is still a bargain. It is by an absolute mile, the best bang for buck wireless headset for PC also (Inside out tracking) if you have a great PC.

Few standalone games are amazing (per my list above), but there are still some, and at the price of entry very well worth it.

      • -2

        How isn't it a bargain?

        It's essentially $239 for a VR headset.

$339 for 128GB, then $100 amazon gift card, which works out to be essentially $239.
        6% cashback, so it's $224.44
Further $47 meta credit to use on games, with 40% discount during the BF/CM period, means I got 5 paid games for free including beat saber.

        • How are you getting $229? Title says "128GB $439.99 + $100 Amazon Gift Card" = $339.99.

          • @Borg: I think that was without the gift card.

When I selected the bundle option, the price dropped to $339.

            Proof

The $100 gift card I used to get the bobovr strap and battery pack and the kiwi grips.

            • +1

              @User0001: But isn't that a total of $449.99 i.e. 1 X Oculus @ $339.99 and second item being 1 X Giftcard @ $100. Order combined total = $439.99?
One had to pay for the $100 Gift card and was not included with $339.99.

              • +1

@Borg: You're absolutely right. I didnt notice the other $100 charge on my card.

I giess it works out for me either way, i was going to spend the $100 at Amazon regardless.

                • @User0001: All good and a "great value buy" at that price regardless. Enjoy :-)

    • +3

I have to disagree with this, but it totally depends on the type of games/apps you're interested in. I'd argue that the headset is worth it alone just for things like Eleven Table Tennis / Walkabout mini golf / Bigscreen… lately I've also been playing tons of Ghosts of Tabor and holy moly is it an intense/fun experience xD

      • Yeah, fair enough. I'm just a casual gamer so that's just been my experience.

If you're an enthusiast and you really get into VR, then yeah it'll be like heaven.

  • +4

lol almost bought and realised i already own this $hit… (i thought i had quest 1)

  • +1

Purchased and then cancelled it 2x. Tempted but comment like getting over so fast put me off

  • Is it worth paying extra for 256gb? How many games would you expect to fit on 128gb. For teen kids, I know nothing about these things!!

  • Heard star wars squadrons is awesome in VR. Anyone tried it with this?

    • Havent played it but heard its awesome from someone who does play

    • Played it on original quest and it was awesome

  • +3

Impulse bought it just to see what VR is like. Been wanting to give Beat Saber a try for a while now. And reviews of Eleven Table tennis are surprisingly good. I want to see how realistic the physics are.

    • +1

Beat Sabre is awesome. Its the main thing I play on my PS VR2

    • +2

Remember to use a referral code when activating so that the price of Beat Saber is covered.

    • +4

Get referral codes from the OzBargain referral system here:

      • What headset and how much is that headset? It seems to be most go third part on the headsets?
I just want a deal for q3 it’s not for me but if I had been getting one and I have never used or owned one it be q3 for me.
But this is for daughter Xmas and I know she would like the mixed reality.
She probably knows more about them than I do and has asked fir a few years and I just not sure if get her this q2 or q3 but it’s double the price.

        • +1

The referrals work for Quest 2 or Quest 3 headsets. (I mean the VR goggles, not the straps)

Quest 2 (and a bonus Amazon gift card) is $439.99

          Quest 3 is $799.99

The Quest 2 pass-through cameras are black and white only and give an extremely blurry view of your surroundings.
Quest 3 has the higher quality pass-through view - it is in colour and much sharper. Compared to reality it is still quite blurry and grainy.

Are you also asking about third party headstraps? For the Quest 3 I'm using a generic headstrap from Aliexpress that was $33. People often recommend the more expensive BoboVR or Kiwi Design headstraps. For the old Quest 2 I used a GOMRVR headstrap also from Aliexpress. It looks like they have one for the Quest 3 that is about $21 delivered.

    • I prefer Pistol Whip, but enjoy!

  • +1

Why dont they offer same for Q3? Im looking to buy one. Anyone here own Q3 can tell me is it worth it to buy it over this Q2?

    • +1

Q3 is definitely better in several ways.

Just for most people, it's not really so much better that it's worth paying double the price.

    • +3

I hated Q2 whenever I tried it. I love Q3. It is just so much clearer for me.

    • +1

I own both. The main difference is you can put the quest 3 on and the image is clear basically no matter that. Quest 2 it has to be perfectly aligned with your eyes basically or you'll get a blurred image. This major improvement alone is worth it ignoring all the other improvements.

      • Thanks all. will definitely get the Q3. Still have $100 worth gift card to be used. Looking for some more discount gift card at the moment to get the price down a bit.

      • Another question, if I get Q3, is it smart to get the 128 or 512GB version? I though 512 would be for long run benefit as game get bigger but I not sure if I would play that much on this thing.

  • +2

What exactly you can do with this ? Bit of a old school guy here

    • +2

VR games, VR media consumption, and a serviceable 2d media consumption device.

      • Can you watch 4k videos with this?

        • +1

You can but the resolution of the biggest virtual screen that you could see would be more like a 1080p display because the actual screens in the Quest 3 are 2064 x 2208 pixels per eye.

You can also watch 3D video. If you have 3D blu-rays, using MakeMKV you can convert them to files that can be played by 4XVR video player, or you can use BD3D2MK3D to convert the mkv file to a side-by-side file that other VR video players can play.

  • +1

Everyone talking about credit for the Meta store, but surely most games you would want to play with this are via Steam VR - am I missing something?

    • +1

Yes, for most games the Steam VR version has better graphics. But for certain games the Quest standalone version is better because you will have less latency and there may be a Mixed Reality passthrough mode that lets you see your actual surroundings while you play. It works great in Eleven Table Tennis and The Thrill of the Fight.

    • Most new VR games with any significant budget are no longer coming to PCVR at this point :(. Assassin’s Creed etc.

A few of the best old PCVR games are also exclusive to the Oculus/Meta store, so you could use the credit on Lone Echo for PC or something.

    • i use my quest exclusively with native quest titles these days (even going as far as re-buying pistol whip, thrill of the fight, blade and sorcery and in death unchained.)

  • what makes this fun and good?
