considering you can get this for under $5 off aliexpress with free shipping, probably not a great deal unless you need it now.
Quality of the steel is noticeably different. Typically selling at $27.90 due to the costs in construction compared to aliexpress.

yeah does look pretty solid build, I like how it's got the screwing lock thingy to hold down the coffee..
I have cheap ones bought in Vietnam that have the same screw down plate, FWIW. Not all have it - a lot of the cheap ones are just gravity based, for sure. But I have a mix of cheapies, and some definitely do have the same screw style plate.
Whether the steel is in fact better on this, I couldn't say - probably.
FWIW, my cheapie ones have a wider brim on the filter plate (which would help sit better on a wider range of cups), and the lids generally have some form of handle, even if it's just a small extended tab (the lids can get hot!). In those two aspects, I personally think this take on a phin is actually inferior to the regular ones!
If this deal had free shipping (or I was buying something for $200 and had free shipping) I'd probably grab one just out of curiosity. For $20, I'll pass.

expensivesteel one. Either from asian grocer for cheap. I have a few with screw down and don't like it; I also prefer gravity.
You can find similar products on Aliexpress that are similar in price and definitely cheaper than your “typical” $27.90.

Yeah, it's the same one. They sell on Amazon for $23 delivered. Saying it's reduced from $39.90 on the website is a bit of a stretch though.
That's fair enough and to be expected from aliexpress. I should have said personally I would give the cheap stuff a go. Didn't mean to sound so negative.
Some Asian grocery stores have phin coffee filters for approx $5 to $10.
