I have this tent and have used it a couple of times. Very impressed with it for the price. It's a knock off of another design (can't remember the manufacturer). A friend has the original version and she pointed out a couple of areas that were slightly better designed on the knock off version. I didn't tell her mine was a quarter of the price she paid though.

Yeah, you're referring to the MSR hubba hubba

      • +1

That's the one! Thanks. The knock off may not last as long as I couldn't comment on the material quality/UV stability, but I'm not using it for long trips, just the occasional weekend.

  • Good price i have a 2 p one and its been great but wish i had a bigger one like this one

    • +4

this is the 2 person version.

      • The three seasons might throw some people….

Really great price for a good side-entry tent!
I purchased this in the previous deal after using the cloud up 2 upgraded tent for a while.
Really like the side opening of this compared to the end opening on the cloud up.
Some of the features of the cloud up are noticeably better (like the buckles to attach the shell) but overall i've been really happy with this.

    • +1

I also prefer side entry over a tunnel tent. it is easier to get in and out

    • +2

Side opening is good for rolling in and out but end opening is better for inflating a pad in the tent as you can do it outside from the open end or not have to do it with half the pad hanging out. (I have both types of tents - one annoys me at setup, the other when I need to take a wizz in the middle of the night. Side opening still usually wins)

  • Still waiting for a deal on the stronger material one.. 😪

    • Which is the stronger material one?

      • I think it's the 20T one that OzB'ers comment they prefer when these ones pop up every now and then. The first time I saw it pop up, I almost jumped on it too until I read the comments. Still a decent bit of kit apparently, just for $20 - $40 more (if on special) the other stronger version is a better buy apparently.

    Great deal.

Any suggestions how to order this WITHOUT Amazon?

    Trying to avoid them….

Naturehike Tent Star-River 4 season Double Layer Ultralight - $127

    • Unfortunately, the one in other than white colours weigh more. And the white won't look that great after a couple of hikes.

      • +1

I don't mind white. I don't plan on rolling it in the mud, plus it'll be use for alpine hiking

      • Why would non-white weigh more??

        • Seems to be how Naturehike makes and sells them. Colours imply variants/materials.

If you change the colour options on Amazon, price and description change too.

    • Are there any differences you can see?

    • +1

Also - why does it look better?

Depending on the colour/variant, it weighs the same or more: Star-River is 1.95-2.2 kg "without accessories" or 2.16-2.6 kg (in the pics) vs Mongar's "complete set" 2.2-2.4 kg.

Vestibules look bigger in Mongar's pics, but that must be the looks only, because according to the listings they're of the same width: Star-River 60+135+60 x 215cm, Mongar 60+135+60 x 210cm.

Mongar seems to have an extra under-ceiling shelf. Not sure how it compares in regards of other pockets/storage.
Mongar has different doors (IMO more managable than Star-River's) and double zippers - from the pics, Star-River has single zippers.
Mongar can be extended with "Tent Foyer": https://www.amazon.com.au/dp/B095BXQSGT/

Star-River is 20D rain proof. Also it’s 5cm longer and 5cm taller. Splitting hairs but extra room. Watched a poor review video and it looks like Star River does have dual zips

        • Thanks for clarifying.

If you change the colours in Mongar listing, it also becomes 20D :) Only this green colour (the cheapest) is non-20D, from what I see.

White Star-River is cheaper, however. The green one is not 20D.

          • +1

@pizzaguy: Just got the Star-River and it has dual zips. It’s also grey and red not white so won’t get dirty

  • I have their cloud up 3 person and it has held up remarkably well over 5 years and many trips

  • have taken this tent on 2 camping trips now and has held up nicely and super easy to put up, far from UL if your looking for backpacking tents but i've taken is backpacking and does the job for the price point compared to $700 gossamer gear tents,

  • thanks for sharing , summer is around the corner , ordered one !
