Thanks for letting me know Dexn.

  • I have a very small lawn area to cut. Perhaps 6Mx4M. I don't really have the space to store a powered mower. Would the push mower be ok to clip a small lawn area (wintergreen lawn).

    Thanks.

  • I find that push mowers, in general, are great for grass with thick blades like buffalo but terrible when it cones to a patch of thin blade grass like couch

How well do these cut thin blade grass?

    • Had to see what "Cutting Technology Contactless Grass Cutting" was.

Does this means that it does not have the option of the blades self sharpening

      • Hello Steve,
The 38HM Push Mower is not self sharpening.
When using the 38HM there should be no contact between the mowing cylinder and the blade.
This ultimately results in the mower being much easier to push then the conventional contact style.

    Hello Xuqi,
    Thank you for your question.
Yes, the 38HM Push mower will be suitable for your small lawn.
As far as i am aware, winter green is a low running couch hybrid that requires a mowing height of between 10 and 18mm.
The 38HM push mower has a minimum mowing height of 14mm which is well withing the requirements of your lawn.

The 38HM has been proven for use on couch varieties and has come up in a number of our recent customer reviews:

"The five blade reel has a significantly smaller radius compared to the old Flymo. This may be why it is touted to cut couch. The inter blade distance is smaller, so there is a greater cutting blade strike frequency per grass blade perhaps. It uses a non contact mechanism with the cutting blade on the reel unlike the "self sharpening" Flymo which relies on an ill conceived sharp static base blade and a reel full of dull sharpeners. The momentum of the AL-KO reel is unimpaired by any contact with the base plate. The AL-KO continues to cope with the couch grass very well after this recent summer rain after one month of regular use cutting at its lowest 14mm level." - http://www.productreview.com.au/r/alko-soft-touch-38hm-comfo…

A customer also recently commented on its couch mowing ability here:

Rep, I have a some questions:
    1. How often do the blades need to be changed?
    2. How much do the blades cost?
    3. Can the blades be sharpened? Is this worthwhile costwise?
    4. Does the 24 month warranty include replacement of blunt blades?
    5. Assembly looks complicated in your manual - it is as hard as it looks?

      Hello Jezster,
      1. How often do the blades need to be changed?
Under most circumstances the 38HM push mower will not need its blades changed for a number of years.
Of course, this is subject to its maintenance and use.

      1. How much do the blades cost?
Replacement blades will be available for special order through AL-KO and AL-KO dealers shortly. At this stage, an official price is unavailable.

      2. Can the blades be sharpened? Is this worthwhile costwise?
The blades can be sharpened by any professional mower service center however, it may be more cost effective to opt for a replacement unit.

      3. Does the 24 month warranty include replacement of blunt blades?
AL-KO's 24 month warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship.

      4. Assembly looks complicated in your manual - it is as hard as it looks?
        Assembly is extremely easy.
The most complicated step is ensuring that the blades have been correctly adjusted prior to its first use. Besides this i have received no other comments about the 38hm push mower being difficult to assemble.

Voting just because the rep is attentive.

  • Rep, thanks for your prompt response. Just one other question:
Your website indicates the 38HM push mower is designed in Germany but does not say where it is made in. Could you tell me where the 38HM push mower is made in?

    • Hello Jezster, the 38HM Push Mower is made for AL-KO in China. Please rest assured that regardless of the origin all products must comply with our strict quality control standards.
