its not the cheapest price if you never get the goods

    • +11

Agreed, personally I would NEVER buy again from SS, once bitten twice shy they say. Better off buying from somewhere you know is reliable as I am quite sure this offer would be match very shortly by the likes of Kogan….and no I do not work for them, just hate SS, frankly.

      • +2

Same, would NEVER purchase goods from SS again especially a mobile device.
Had a really bad experience, there was a problem of the device, their "professional" technical support can't even detect the problem, even it was very easy to noticed by human eyes.
The problem didn't solve, and they would just delete your account and you would never register again for complaining.

        • +2

Yeah, i too find myself responding to pretty decent deals on here but then criticising the retailer; that being SS. Sadly, with good deals its still a TERRIBLE online company with poor customer service standards. I won't deal with them again after the fiasco of getting my SGS2 a while ago

        • +2

I can say I had a similar experience a few years ago (maybe more than a few) buying a few nokia n95 8gbs. They took forever to send them and didn't reply to my emails. When they finally replied they said it was because the guy who was handling my order had gone on holiday or something.

          I just look elsewhere now.

    • It's hit and miss (perhaps more miss), some people don't seem to have much of an issue while others are dicked around endlessly.

      • +1

Spot on, fair game, you buy you accept the risk, one only needs to check threads on the S3 post. I'll wait for the LTE version, thanks.

        • you don't get your fair shake of the source bottle from SS

        • +1

          *Sauce

        • +2

          sauce

        • *sores ? ;-)

        • I like to suck my sauce bottle and shake my sav, but I guess its a personal thing.

  • +1

Isn't there an LTE version coming out?

    • It's supposedly coming out in December. Optus is trailing it now.

  • +4

dealers are getting the EU version of NOTE II for $549 in the following weeks.

    • Can you be a little clearer in what you mean?

Are saying there will be Note II on the market for buyers in a few weeks for $549 or you stating that it is costing sellers that price?

      • dealers I known in HongKong, cost to get it for them, should be cheaper for big dealers like Kogan, Shoppingexpress

    • What's the difference?

      And which dealers?

I hope this phone drops as fast as the S3 did in the first 3 months.

    • Source of this wisdom?

      • +6

I think vid_ghost/k_rudd would prefer if you had spelt that as 'Sauce'…

  • -2

What is the advantage of having such a big phone is the resolution is the same as the S3?

    • +2

You must think of it less as a "big" phone and more like a "small" Tablet :) And that is whats so great about this product! That little bit more makes it so much better for train ride movie viewing, gaming, web browsing, pretty much everything and it still fits in your pocket.

      • +1

Well, its more of a personal preference. Some find them humongous, some find it appealing, but whats good about it is you get jelly bens.

        • +4

          humongous & appealing?… that's what she said ;)

        • +4

Not sure why you got negged mate! I added a +. Made me chuckle. I think there are a few grumpy folks around with Mondayitis.

        • +1

          thanks

Isn't it less comfortable? I got a 4.7" HTC One X, and holding it in landscape when watching a movie already feels uncomfortable. I keep shifting every few minutes. And it barely fits in my shirt pocket. The Note will not.

        • your shirt pocket??

Ever since apple came out with retina displays everyone is raving about high res displays without even considering real world use of such high ppi values. Sure things look sharper and nicer, but how useful is it if the screen is tiny (i.e just 3.5”) ?? You have to keep zooming and panning to read. Instead if you had a larger screen with the same resolution you can read more content clearly without zooming and panning.

Still most 10” android tablets have the same res as SGS3, doesn't mean they are useless over a SGS3, 1080p computer screens and TVs have an even lower ppi, but still people keep buying larger monitors and TVs. Resolution is not everything, what matters is a good balance between resolution and size.

      • Totally depends on your eyesight. If you can't see the difference between low and high PPI, don't pay for more.
To me, iPad2's low PPI make it uncomfortable to use - I am seeing RGB subpixels instead of text. I have to deliberately focus out to actually see the text. It's no co-incidence that the lowest acceptable DPI for general printing is 300 and for publications, 600.
For those with good eyesight, both high PPI (ie. density of pixels) and large real-estate (a lot of pixels) is desirable. Former, dictating quality of text rendering and latter, quantity of text rendered. It's quite disappointing that Samsung actually reduced both on Note2 from Note1.

        • All true - but the latter is because of the change to the aspect ratio of the screen. Incidentally, Sharp (the company, not the point of a knife) has just put 1080p res 5 inch smartphone screens into mass production. There'll be alot of phones featuring them from early next year. Samsung will then have to step up the Note3.

        • Very interesting. I guess resolution will also go up but I believe 1080p is a waste on a phone. There would be visual difference between 1080p and 720p to a human eye on a screen that small

        • That's a massive 440ppi!

          I would be happy with a 1080p Android tablet 7" or 10".

    • +1

No need to carry a tablet around too?

    • Supposedly the screen on the note 2 is semi-pentile only. Source below says RGB but I recall that it's not completely RGB hence not being marketed as super amoled PLUS.

      http://www.gforgames.com/gadgets/samsung-galaxy-note-2-vs-sa…

      • Interesting - I was not aware of that. Had the runout price on the galaxy tab 7.7 not been so compelling I may have baulked because of Amoled PLUS pixel fade issue (I remember several months ago seeing a photo of a year-old Sony smartwatch screen that was a complete mess). It'll be interesting to see if Samsung's remedy for the Note2 - and presumably other devices to come, works.

    • When it has double the battery!

  • no 4g?

    • Not with this version.

  • I purchased my note 2 for $829, later on I canceled and reordered elsewhere for $699, then I see it for $650, and now $599?

It seems impossible to receive my phone before the price is dropped, I'm sticking to my $699 order :(

    • $599 plus shopping square shipping is basically $640.

  • Does anyone use the Note exclusively without the stylus? I can't see myself using one, but seeing as I don't have a tablet, this size screen is appealing.

    • +4

I dont use it with stylus.. its still the best phone out there.

      • +1

Likewise. I very rarely get the stylus out (I think the only time is to write shopping lists). Have to agree that this is the best phone available

        • You're all making me want one but I don't want to drop that much moolah on a phone dammit, and certainly not from SS.

      • +1

Same here, just appreciate the screen property when you surf internet. Will get the Note 2 when it drop to $500, expect to be around X'mas time. Will never go back to a small screen again.

        • Will never go back to a small screen again.

Agreed. More than 90% of the time, I am looking at the screen, whether it be for texting, games, web browsing etc.

        • Also - on a really big screen, once you see Amoled contrast black - you never go back.

        • But the whites look worse than LCD. Nowhere near as bright.

  • +1

I'm trying to hold out a year or so for a possible 4G dual sim version http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/08/samsung-galaxy-note-with-…
    but this is mighty tempting.

    • It'll be worth the wait indeed. I though i was really tempting as well but then i saw the source.

  • 4G wont be in full swing until next year anyway unless you are close to the city.. by then itll be note 3 time woo

    • +1

Its a very high premium to pay for 4g. I agree now is not the time for it. In 1-2 years I will certainly be exclusively looking for 4g phones. Right now is time to save some money on the 3g versions

      • Unless you download a lot of videos or watch a lot of youtube videos, 3G is good enough for me, normally get between 3-5mbps on Telstra Next G network.

        • +1

Most will be on plans in which you can't download "a lot".im on a generous plan and still only have 1gb. After a few seconds of buffering a YouTube video on 3g it will start. Cannot see the point of downloading the unwatched content faster. 4g speeds would only be a benefit to a very small number of people that download large content regularly and within 4g area.

      • Yeah, I guess can wait a bit for 4g, since I am using Voda(they are shit). Completely agree that nows not the time unless if you really want it. Just like GPS, few years back it was a premium now no phone comes without it.

  • +1

Down down down down down… Waiting for continuous drop. haha!

  • +1

I reckon if Kogan matched this price many people would jump at it. They have cheaper postage and a better reputation.

  • +5

Won't buy from SS but gave a + for the deal because of the price and knowing that this is the start of the price drop and other dealers will soon bring the prices down and then I will get it from a somewhat reputable dealer.

    • It wasn't that long ago that they were over $800, so to see one $200 less just 5 or 6 weeks later is a good sign indeed.

      • +1

Hopefully the trend of continual price drops and fierce competition between vendors that we saw with the S3 continues with the NoteII - until then am more than happy to continue with my 'antiquated' iPhone 4 (oh the shame)

        • +1

I also share your shame, however I'm waiting for the lumia.

      • Wow -$4.75/day is a pretty steep 6 week early adopter's tax.
Wonder what the next 6 weeks tax will be …

  • +5

Comonnnnn KOGAN you can match it, I will buy!!!

  • Why hasn't the galaxy S3 priced dropped below $450 yet, even with the release of the 4g model and this!!!!

    • If you notice the S2, it stays around the $500 mark for a very long time, expect the S3 to be the same. I think this has something to do with the cost of manufacturing the phone, Samsung need to make certain amount of profit for each of them, else why bother making it.

      • Because not a lot of people will buy the S3 3g model if there's the other two option. But I guess that a big price drop will only come after the next gen i.e. the S4.

  • +5

I'll grab one from Kogan too

  • +3

I would also grab one from Kogan! Lets hope he drops it to that price and sees this thread.

    • +1

Why not get one now? $11.05 price difference between SS and Kogan is not really worth waiting over if you're in the market for this phone.

edit: I see Kogan doesn't include shipping cost into website price, my bad. So it's probably an extra $30~ all up

      • +2

I think the reservation most people have is that it is SS. Quite a few people (claim?) that they've been royally screwed over by SS with packages going missing, abject lack of communication, RMA to manufacturer etc.

        • +1

Ya, hence get it from Kogan now :)

        • Ahh apologies. I thought you meant SS. Derp moment. :)

  • +1

looks like the price will drop down very quickly.
if it down to 600 from jb, i will sell my 4s and upgrade to bigger screen.
may switch to 4g 2-3yrs later, at the moment 4g coverage is not gd enough ,
    3g is gd enough.

  • Amazing how quickly the price is dropping. I wish Apple phones were like this. I wanted to get a 64gb iphone 4S but the damn thing is still $800… freakin' ridiculous!

  • If you order now, you might receive the phone before Christmas…Might.

Worst shopping experience ever with SS. Buyer beware.

  • +3

I would say if you buy this from SS u may end up never receiving the products plus the worst support u can ever get from any company which will cause you depression.

I personally had a bad experience with SS and when i investigated alot of people are having the same.

I will not recommend anyone to buy anything from them even they offer for free.

    • now now, dont be unrealistic. we both know you'd buy it from SS even if it was for free ;)

  • I haven't had a bad experience from SS yet. Sometimes when you buy small items that have $1 shipping or free shipping it takes a few weeks to get it (sometimes one week). But for a phone where you're paying $39 for shipping, I presume it's a 3 day express service with tracking number.

    • Not a very good presumption. On one of the phone deals they had a very hard time getting a refund months after paying.

      • I bought a DSLR from them a while ago and it arrived within 4 days via DHL, shipped from Hong Kong. I then used those 'points' they gave me to purchase memory cards and the memory card arrived within 2 days. Seems like I am the lucky one here.
I bought stuff from another seller, paid for extra 'express' shipping, and eventually get my order after 5 weeks, while others claimed to received theirs in 10 days without extra shipping.
My point is most business just follow a standard process to ship the orders and also deal with enquiries in standard way, but there are many other factors that can affect the delivery.
I assume shops like Kogan will have more people processing orders and handling enquiries and thus have a better chance to meeting our expected delivery time. Whether it justifies we ozbargainer spending extra 5% or whatever is entirely up to us.
A +ve for the price though, even better if it triggers others to start selling at a lower price.

        • Yeah I've bought a couple of cameras from them (the last one was late last year) and they arrived within a week. They were direct shipping items so maybe it's different with those. I've also bought a bunch of computer things from them but it used to be when they had a physical shop near UNSW so at least I knew where to go if something went wrong. It wasn't like I had to call or email and wait for a response.

  • I read the 4G version (N7105) is not compatible with Telstra or Optus 4G (800mhz).

    • thanks with noted. i am not going to get the 4G in the next 2-3yrs. as the price will be too expensive and the coverage is limited. so i will go for 3G version for this note2 if the price crush down to $500. :P

  • +1
