Hi OP, can you comment on whether you test for the reported ear-splitting 15kHz to 18kHz audio frequency spike noise defects in these types of high-frequency inverters prior to installation?

    • +1

      Hey Mate,

We personally don't test for the noise however the inverter is rated at a certain dB level and goes through various quality checks and accreditations to ensure that it is suitable for its installation. If we do hear an odd noise we investigate accordingly.

Haven't had a case of ear splitting noise in any of our installs over the years, some inverters are louder than others, some have fans and some have internal cooling. Each are rated at a certain dB level which if it is exceeded the manufacturer replaces the unit under warranty.

This particular inverter in our offer has a rated noise level below 25dB as per the datasheet and we have not had noise complaints for these units.

If there is ever any noise that doesn't sound normal or louder than usual we always investigate and get it sorted via the manufacturer as required.

      Cheers,

      Matt

      • Thanks Matt

Greatly appreciate your detailed frankness in the posts and response in these threads.

Was also wondering about microinverters per smokeymr

Would you be able to provide insight into why an installer in general would caution before attempting a replacement? My supposition would be that direct inverter replacements incite minimal issues as an installer can reuse any refurbished/non-"issue" parts for the immediate next customer or expediently communicate via their existing manufacturer/distribution channels.

        • +1

Thanks for the kind words, we always try our best to be as transparent as possible.

It really depends on the particular situation that requires a replacement. Direct inverter replacements work well if there are issues that have been identified with the inverter. The inverter has the most moving parts of the whole installation so normally the first thing to go.

This is why we work with quality manufacturers who have a solid warranty and are willing to replace whole units instead of parts. This ensures an easy swap over for both the customer and the installer.

Any inverters that are replaced under warranty are sent back to the manufacturer and not held by the installer, we as installers don't like or need to open inverters and fault find, we let the manufacturer handle this as they are the expects on their own internals.

Most good manufactures have great warranty policies which make it easier for both the end user and the installer to work through issues and warranty.

          Hope that helps

          Cheers,

          Matt

I have this inverter it does not make any sound at all

      • +1

        Thanks Matt and Weisman.

        That is reassuring.

To prevaricate: the detection rate of 16kHz frequency and above may fall through the cracks due to hearing-age fall-off similar to when only specific family members could hear a CRT turn on anywhere in the building. It is quickly picked up by consumer microphones, though (phone app even recommended in some manufacturer documents) with a stark spike at a single frequency.

We have seen solar inverters from 5 to 15 kW manufactured in the last few years emit this electrical component noise at 50 to 70 decibels (exceeding the common peak <25dB specifications).

On one occasion this was a new install with Goodwe who sent their representative who had "never heard of this issue", was unable to respond with formal assessment and did not replace under warranty. The installer in that case had subsequently given us the silent treatment after forwarding us off to the manufacturer.

Sounds like Matt @ Cerium has open communication for a much better experience.

        • +1

I have a 10kW Goodwe and it is audible during the day. I wouldn't say that it is "loud" but you wouldn't be able to mistake it as being off.
I'd compare it to the volume level of a small laptop under load (except the frequency distribution is much higher). Mine is located next to our bedroom, so it is far away from any occupied spaces in the day time so I can't comment on the sound affecting me when it is on.

Anyone tell me why all the solar deals are for VIC? Is it their rebate?

  • I asked this question in the solar deal from Marshall energy - what's the ballpark number for a 10kW system with Enphase microinverters?

    • Hey Smokemr,

When it comes to Enphase microinverters there are quiet a few things we need to consider, these include:

      • roof space
      • number of splits (various roofs the panels are going on)
      • panel orientation
      • Single or Double Storey
      • Sigle of 3 Phase

Its not a simple ball park figure unfortunately as there are so many varying factors that can affect the price.

To give you an idea you would be spending an extra $3-$4k for a Enphase solution over a string solution for a 10kW system. Please note as requested these are ball park figures.

If you would like a property specific quote please share your details via PM or our website :)

      Cheers,

      Matt

Great price and a bit sad that the system Cerium installed for us today was $3399 after Solar rebates as an equivalent vs $2899 for the system on offer here. We got the Sungrow inverter instead.

  • I have you boys installing a 13.2Kw setup at my place tomorrow/Monday, getting excited and hoping it all goes well.

    • +1

Went smoothly today for me. The team were on site shortly after 9am and finished before 1pm.

      • Glad to hear it all went smoothly.

        • Share the positive reviews with us!

          • @UsernameChecksIn: My system was inspected yesterday and now active. Happy to be starting to become less reliant on the grid!

Now trying to work out the Home Assistant integration. Half way there but need to map the correct entities into the energy dashboard

            • +1

@10101010101: They finished the install of my setup the other day, the crap Melbourne weather meant they had to hold of finishing for a few days. The guys did a great job and now just waiting for it to be commissioned.

              • @greencomet: Good to hear. I'm waiting for United Energy to update the meter so I can get paid for the feed in.

  • +1

I just paid $4500 for the same system in WA wish we had that rebate.

    • I was wondering the same thing, the price difference is huge.

  • So it costs $1,499 + $500 (Double Story) + $600 (If no 3 Phase nearby) + $1000 (Old house with old switchboard) = $3600 total

How can we know if there is a 3 Phase nearby and switchboard is new? We are moving in next month will we still be eligible for this deal? Hopefully doesn't run out by then :)

  • +1

    Hey Daniesaurs,

The extras are property dependant. In regards to 3 phase its not about having 3 phase nearby it refers to if you have 3 phase supply coming into the house from the street and are using 3 phase loads in the house.

Depending on your situation (new build - builder should be able to tell you this) existing property (ask the agent or get a photo of the switchboard or meter and you will be able to see if single or 3 phase)

Three phase properties will have a triple switch (breaker) for main power supply and a single phase will have a single breaker, your electricity smart meter will also identify the phase by showing 1P or 3P and having either 1 or 3 LED lights respectively.

In regards to the switchboard you can send us a photo and we can advise accordingly, new builds will have a new board and older houses depends on if any renos have been done and the age of the house. New switchboard have AC breakers (up and down toggle switches) and the older board have the ceramic pull in pull out fuses.

To discuss further feel free to send me a PM or get in touch via our website.

    Cheers,

    Matt

    • Thanks, I'll confirm before coming back to you guys :) thanks

Ugh, still cannot convince myself to install solar - not eligible for rebate, double story - that would be $4800 and I pay less than 1k for electricity usage per year now and FIT is a joke. But good to see prices are dropping and panel wattage grows. Maybe next year

  • Anyone know if these are decent panels. 14 panels for a 6.6kw system.

    Jinko Tiger Neo 475w JKM475N-60HL4-V "N-Type.

    GoodWe GW5000-DNS-30 Inverter.

  • FWIW, I'm not eligible for the Solar VIC rebates, but met all the roof/power requirements and paid $3,650 for the exact same system (6.6 kW/Jinko N 440W panels/Goodwe 5kW, quoted $4,299 here) last week. Install is scheduled for mid-December

    • oh that sounds nice. Care to share details?

      • Not sure if it's against the rules to share referral codes here? Feel free to DM me and I can share the details

  • Any similar offer on the 10kW ?

    • Hey bar6gain,

Happy to work out a good deal for you mate, send me a PM or leave a quote request on our website and I will get you a quote.

We are passing on similar discounts for larger systems as well.

To give everyone an idea please see below:

A 10kW system in Metro Melbourne with Jinko 440w Panels with a Goodwe 10kW Single Phase Inverter will start at: $4,500 Upfront after the Solar Vic Rebate of $1,400 and the Solar Vic Loan of $1,400.

Total customer cost: $5,900 after the Solar Vic Rebate

Please note there are a number of factors to consider with larger systems, distributor approvals for export, single or 3 phase, available roof space, splits on the roof and STC rebate amount based on the total panel wattage.

We always want to make sure we provide a accurate price and quote for our consumers. If one would like a property specific quote please get in touch. The pricing wont be far off the estimate.

      Cheers,

      Matt

  • Is the Goodwe better or the Sungrow (from last offer)?

For both the 1 phase and the 3 phase options.

    • +2

      Hey Vipero,

Both units are decent, Goodwe is considered the entry level product and Sungrow Mid range. To put it simply Sungrow has won the Best value inverter first place and Goodwe comes in at a close third place on Solar Quotes. In the industry Sungrow is the leading mid range choice of inverters.

Goodwe is value for money and if budget is tight and you want a system that will do the job, tick the boxes and be a reliable brand who will serve its customers during the warranty period then its the ideal choice.

The Goodwe monitoring and smart meter are a bit clunky however still do the job. As installers we find the Goodwe Home Kit (smart meter) a bit of a bulky unit taking up a decent amount of space in the switchboard.

Sungrow is considered the best mid range inverter in the market, with excellent after sales support (way better than Fronius) and a solid unit which keeps on going its a very good choice for a mid range system for only a fraction more of the cost.

We find that the Sungrow monitoring is quiet good especially when combined with the smart meter, the S100 smart meter is small and quick and easy to install and provides plenty of data for us to nerd out on.

Really comes down to consumer choice and budget.

We only work with manufacturers we can rely on and have good support from for our customers. There are other brands that fall in a similar category however many of them don't have a great reputation in the market or are very new to Aus. Brands such as Growatt, Solax, Sofar, SAJ and some tohers are brands we dont sell or install due to their quality, age in the market and after sales support. There is not much of a cost difference between these brands and our entry level Goodwe or mid range Sungrow.

Like with any product consumer experience may vary and we always like to give our customers a choice of brands and run them through the pros and cons so they can make an informed decision.

Regardless of which unit you choose if there are ever any issues we pride our selves in getting it sorted for you either with the manufacturer or ourselves to ensure you have minimum downtime.

FYI we can upgrade this offer to the Sungrow for + $500.

      Regards,

      Matt

  • Anyone got on this deal? I'm still waiting for a response from Matt to follow up on a quote, I think he's on leave.

    • Try giving them a call. They've been really responsive to me. Already installed based on their previous deal

  • Called 2days ago. Followed up 3-4 times on quotes but got told each time that the quoting system is down!
