I'm looking in Sydney, can anyone recommend a company

    • +3

Suggest you try www.solarquotes.com.au and www.solarchoice.com.au
They are websites offering a ton of info as well as recommending a few installers servicing your area to try.

      • Also you can get it through Costco (and Ikea, still?) I wonder if that decreases chances of getting a dodgy installer/system with no recourse to get it fixed.

      • +2

Still a mixed bag, I went with the most well recommended business in Melbourne and they still did a shit job and even misconfigured the system bad enough that removing a panel made it generate more energy

        • They are incentivised with higher STC credits for larger installations .Larger installations maybe subject to more shading that will reduce the output … they don’t care and regulator doesn’t care.

          • +1

@Memo14: It wasn't that, I was hitting the MPPT current limit with a 2P string, putting them in a single series string was over the residential voltage limit so I had to remove a panel to get under that.

      • +2

i don't recommend them, i used them to get quotes, the quotes are way more expensive than finding your own companies online, i got a quote from other companies for same hardware, jinko panels and sungrow inverter. the cheapest i found on solar quotes (they lied and said they use in house installer, the guy who came was a contractor, it rained so they did not start, i cancelled with them coz they lied about installer being in house) i found another company who quoted it 1.5k cheaper than the lowest solarquotes price which were contractor installers to begin with. alot of indian sellers btw who are like middle men, they find customers using online advertising and they use cheap contractors to install. mine is suppose to be installed tomorrow so wll see how it goes, the price i got for my system there are companies who charge exactly double it, penrith solar is one of those companies that chargers out the @rse.. some companies really are crazy with their quotations

        • Can't dm you mate.
If you're in NSW/Syd, can you please reach out about details/quotes about your solar? I want to get it and would be happy to use your research, if you're willing to share.
          Cheers.

    • Did you get any

    • yeah it is lot of work. any idea which panel you are getting?

  • My inverter died on my 2kW system, would I be able to upgrade to this?

    • We can't replace just the inverter. however, you can get the rebate if you can replace the full system. What do you think?

      • Do these smaller 5kW low quality high-frequency inverters still make loud (dB(A)) piercing high-pitched 15kHz–16kHz screeches

        • The abrupt silence from the seller is [not] deafening!

If only the electronic components flooding modern inverters were similarly silently optimised 🙉

STCs deprioritise any warranty service or repairs which further compound supply chain and third-party issues even on one-week old systems, let alone the decades-lifespan expected of the install.

Would need the whole system including inverters and panels to even get a look.

Envision a world where each in-house solar install business would have been able to sufficiently scale up operations to handle response to simple questions after an accumulated ten years' worth direct customer base. 🤪

  • What’s the ballpark number for a 10kW system with Enphase ?

    • Additional cost for Enphase micros is $190-$200 per inverter!

      • And for the panels?

        • A 10kw system with a string inverter is $4500

      • Thanks! Does that cost also reflect that the standalone inverter is not required?

        • Also interested in this, if we’re talking 15 panels does that mean an additional $3000 cost? Or, like smokeymr says, are there savings elsewhere

        • @AndySolar Any response?

          • @smokeymr: Sorry! We will deduct the string inverter cost and add the micro inverters price.

            • @AndySolar: Ughhh never got the notification for the reply. So the extra cost for 22 panels would be ~$3500? 22*200 (assuming 1 microinverter/panel) - 1000 (for the string inverter)?

      • Do you mean $200 per panel?

  • In WA tile roof, double storey with jinko and sungrow inverters are $6700 , shows how much of a great deal this is, wish its in WA!

Question for OP or someone in the know: I'm looking to do solar sometime soon, but first I need to change out my ageing gas hot water system for an electric one. Does it matter what electric hot water system I get? =)

    • +1

get a electric heat pump one not an old electric heater, there is a rebate in VIC, I am looking these days for the same

      • +1

Or, simply get a solar system big enough to not worry about getting a heat pump hot water system. That's what we did and could not be happier with the decision. Hook it up to the PV via a relay on a timer, or via inverter control, or a smart diverter.

Its worth noting there are a lot of poor quality heat pump systems ppl get swindled into unknowingly. The decent ones start from about $3k up (excluding gov subsidies), but even some of them lucky to get a 5yr warranty.

    • +1

I'd suggest a bigger system in your case. You can add a heat pump later on if you wish to :)

  • ‘Limited to the first 25 customers’ dang it! By the time I’m ready to get what I need I’m sure the deal will sell out. Great deal though!

    • When do you think the house will be ready by?

      • Just went through all my other dates for finishing works. Won’t be ready by end date unfortunately. BUT I have you bookmarked and have subscribed for any future offers/when ready. Thanks for everything!

  • will you do council permits and structure engineer check for roof too? also are those included in the cost ? i.e. is this the turnkey cost?

    • +1

I read that a building permit is required as it's altering the structural components of the roof with the added weight on the roof frame, changing the energy efficiency of the dwelling, the type of rail etc.

Would be interested to know this as well.

      • +2

Nah, never heard of such bullcrap, if it does exist all installers will take care of that

      • Based on the info you read and posted here you have interpreted "should get" as "required". Its not required.

    • Honestly, I never heard of this requirement. The only time we might require a permit is if your property is under a body corp.

      • Here's where I read about it.

        https://www.vba.vic.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/13614…

"Solar panels and other roof mounted objects

The installation of rooftop solar panels and other roof mounted plant or equipment installed on a building is classified as building work because it involves the alteration of an existing building. Fixings for the installation may also adversely affect an existing roof structure. Different onsite conditions including roof coverings, roof pitch, type of framing, bracing and wind loads will need to be considered prior to the installation.
An assessment of the support structure by a registered civil engineer should be obtained so that all loading conditions, installation, and fixing methods are considered."

        • Key word: Should not Must

          • +1

@OzHoneyBadger: Nothing to do with interpretation, it's written there.

Roof top solar classified as building work. Bottom of page 1 clearly states building work requires building permit.

Structural assessment is part of the documentations required to assess whether proposed load and design are compliant to building code.

Should be clear - has anyone [here] ever gotten a building permit for installation of roof top solar before?

  • Are these any good for EV charging? Or does it just trickle charge like a normal PowerPoint?

    • Yes, the best way to charge your EV with solar is to connect the EV standard Level 1 charger to a regular home PowerPoint during the day while solar energy is being generated.

      • So they can’t do phase 3 to get up to 11kwh?
Sorry I know absolutely nothing about electricity apart from turning it on lol

  • In ballpark How much for 13.3Kw system with 28x 475w Panels with Sungrow SG10RS-ADA 10KW inverter on s single storey, single phase house. in VIC ?
In your professional opinion are these good panels and inverter for domestic use ?

How do you compare Jinko Solar Tiger Neo Solar panels vs Canadian panels

    Cheers

    • Get the Sungrow Hybrid inverter.

      • any reason for hybrid invertor?

        • Capacity for a battery but it has the ability to provide back up power to a circuit if power goes out while sunlight.

      • Only worth worrying about hybrid inverter if plan to get battery within a few years. If not, bit pointless, technology and system options are always evolving.

    • i m getting jinko with sungrow

    • Both panels are fine.

    • I suggest 440w panels over 475w, the voltage-current is high and not suitable with all the inverters.

Both Canadian and Jinko solar panels are similar when it comes to performance and efficiency. Canadian head office is located in Melbourne and the Jinko office is located in NSW.

Could you please email me your house address? I'll get back to you with a detailed proposal for the Sungrow inverter.

      Thanks

  • Hi Rep, are you able to do this deal to Alexandra 3714? Would definitely organise if you can whenever it suits your schedule.

    • Yes! Could you please send your house address?

      • Terrific pmd you

  • Hi Andy, what would be the upfront cost with Jinko Tiger Neo Panels instead?

    • The price would be same with Jinko Tiger Neo panels.

  • Search for Cerium Energy deals on Ozbargain. They are cheaper

    • +1

Nope! This deal is definitely cheaper :)

      • Ah you're right! Hard to compare when solar companies advertise with the govt rebate and loan

  • Got 6.6kW Jinko panels and 5kW Growatt inverter for $2500 ($1400 interest free loan and $1100 upfront). I live in regional VIC (3350) still got the best deal.

    • Good luck with the Growatt inverter!

  • Hi Andy, I'm interested in this offer. Located in 'Aintree 3336'. Thnx

  • Hi can I ask a very newb question - getting a 12.5 kW (max consumption) ducted reverse cycle aircon installed, am I right to assume that a 6.6 kW solar system will not generate enough power (generating at max) to offset the aircon use most of the time that it's running?

    • +1

Depending on how often you run the air conditioner. In general, a 10kw system is a good fit if you install a reverse-cycle air conditioner—especially during the winter.

    • +1

Also don't forget despite the A/C being rated at 12.5kW it'll not run at a full 12.5kW flat out. It will cycle on and off and even when it's cycling it won't necessarily run at full power. Really depends on how powerful you set the fan speed and the temperature differential between inside and out. Running it at a reasonable temperature as opposed to super cold or super hot will mean that you can offset quite a bit. For example we have 2.5kw splits in our kids bedroom and run two overnight during winter. They probably use about 600w on average combined.

    • Yes sure! We can add it. We might have to add a CT meter which will cost you an additional $200.

      Thanks

  • +1

Be cautious with this company, initial sales service is good but they seem to subcontract the installation. I have been mucked around and had my install date now pushed back until the new year and they wouldn't commit to an install date. Once deposit was paid communication stopped and I have been chasing them for weeks just to get an approximate install date that keeps slipping.

Seems unless you're a larger job you will be pushed to the bottom of the pile. Can't say I recommend and I'm considering going with another company.

    • +1

I'm sorry to hear about your experience, but I want to share mine as I had my installation done today from Marshall Energy Solutions. Installation guys who came out, were extremely professional & explained everything thoroughly. Moreover, after completion, they made sure all the rubbish was removed and cleared. At the time of writing this, I've already had 2 phone calls from (Andy & Jacob) to ensure that I was satisfied with their work.

      • +1

Thanks, Andy has since called me and tried to resolve the situation (factors outside their control, fair enough) which was good. I'll still be waiting until January for the install (ordered 30 Oct) and will report back then if they carry through.

        • +1

Thanks a lot for understanding the situation, it means a lot :), I will get this sorted for you.

    • Oh wow that sucks. I didn't have to pay a single cent to Cerium. No deposit and still haven't paid despite the system being installed as I'm waiting for the inspection to occur (hopefully tomorrow). Once all live and active I'll pay the full amount.

  • Hi @AndySolar,
Can you elaborate why this is a better deal than the Cerium Energy deal found here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/814985

    • The Jinko model featured is N-type, whereas the Canadian panels boast the latest TopCon technology, considered the next advancement beyond N-type.

Though not an expert, a significant indicator of performance is module efficiency. According to the datasheets, the Jinko panels offer an efficiency of 22.02%, while the Canadian panels, with a similar size, achieve a 22.5% efficiency. This suggests that Canadian panels can potentially generate more power per unit of sunlight, contributing to enhanced overall performance.

While the current Jinko model is still good, I anticipate that the next version will likely align more closely with the Canadian panels in terms of both technology and price.

      • Thank you @AndySolar for the explanation. I might reach out to you sometime this week to get a quote.

        • You're welcome! Feel free to reach out whenever you're ready for a quote. I'm here to assist you.

  • +1

Anyone went ahead with Marshall Energy Solutions ? Would like to know the experience.
