Transit Questions for Tokyo Narita

Hey all,

Flying from Guam - Melbourne (via NRT and BNE), in two weeks. Just wondering if;
1) United checks through baggage/has an interline baggage agreement with Qantas. (UA from Guam to Tokyo and QF for the way home)
2) If anyone recently has gone through NRT just to gauge customs and quarantine queues just in case if bags are not tagged all the way through to Melbourne.
3) Is there any way to credit my point earnings on the QF sector to Qantas (flight was all booked through UA) as I want to use my QF CL status out of NRT and during my transit and to net those all too precious points.

Cheers,

  • Japan is usually efficient with immigration queues even if there are long ones in my experience, usually through in 15-20 mins at most.

    Does your ticket for your qantas flight show a QF or a UA flight number?

    • QF flight number from NRT-BNE-MEL.
      United issued E-Ticket. Could only input a *A FF number.

  • You might be able to enter your QF number in the UA app or online against the booking, which should count. You can also claim it after the flights - https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/earn-points/clai…

    • I think my best bet is for either the airport staff to readjust my FF number or to go ahead with a claim.

    Just came through Narita this week. Immigration was a slog, only 4 lines, multiple big planes in at the same time.

    There's an electronic customs and immi card you need to do but you dont find out until youre on you way there.

    Customs is declare or not. Fairly straightforward. I had to declare personal meds. Thankfully i had the Yunyu Kakunin-sho but the process for obtaining it was painful. There is also a website now for that if you need it

    • For me immigration isnt the kicker as I'll go through APEC/Diplomatic queues. Just was wondering about customs.

      • Pretty automated and honestly theyre pretty surprised when people declare. Hardly anyone in the queue. Not like Australia where ABF assume everyone is hiding something.

        • I got randomly pulled up for random check before, quite surprised. But they just inspected it for 5 seconds and closed it.
