What are you mainly going to do with them? That's the question, no point getting the better model for simple cutting.

+1 for correct use of advice.

Indian Premier League Cricut is the best of them all.

Decide on what materials you want to cut - they all cut vinyl, the higher models csn start to cut fabrics and do engravings with interchangeable tools.

Decide on the finished size - physical limitation of the joy to the maker for example. Look at the width as length is as long as the roll.

I like the Brother ScanNCut, it is like Circut but scans too. Doesn't look like there have been many innovations with the Brother machines in the last few years. But scanning and then cutting what you scan is great. The roll feeder for cutting vinyl limits you to like 10 inch wide though, kind of a downer. The software, canvas workspace, is a little unusual but fairly powerful and intuitive if you are familiar with design software.

  • There are some pretty big differences between the models, e.g. some do only mugs or iron-ons, the Explore writes and cuts paper and fabric, the Maker can also cut things like leather and balsa wood.
FYI you can buy third party materials which are cheaper than official Cricut materials.

The Cricut software does the job but is not really that modern. It's like using iTunes.

I've heard good things about Silhouette, a competitor brand which I think is cheaper.
