Ionmax 632 is on sale as part of the Black Friday deal. I purchased it instead of the Ausclimate Cool Seasons Premium 10L Desiccant Dehumidifier, as the latter has not been on sale recently. I would appreciate it if anyone who owns an Ionmax 632 could comment on their experience. Thanks.

  • I have 2 of these purchased last Summer. They certainly can pull some moisture from the air but they also push out some heat and Desiccant Dehumidifiers also have a smell to them. https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=Desiccant…

    • The smell is normally after the first use. Does it still smell?

      • +1

Mine still smells some discussion here
I gave up and purchased another brand, get a slight smell with the new one but it's ok.

        • Thanks for sharing you experience. I can imagine the smell must be very annoying and unpleasant.

          • @MaOptAus: On the off chance you get smell issues with yours, I gather it's recommended to put it on high/laundry for a few hours outside (or maybe a day or so).
            Hopefully that should resolve it.

    • I can confirm that the heat is normal. This applies to all dehumidifiers as they produce warm dry air.

Isn't it too late to get people's opinions on it? Just enjoy your purchase!

    • I can cancel the order since Amazon hasn't dispatched it.

I have both and found Ausclimate to be more effective, it does produce warmer air but captures a tank full (3l) of moisture in about 8 hours on max setting whereas Ionmax (3.5l) takes about 14 -15 hours.

Ionmax is also noisier by a huge margin.

    • Do you get any problems with the Ausclimate leaking water outside the water catchment container?

      • +1

I have the auclimate dessicant and have not had and leaks. I can imagine it though, hopefully it could be sealed up if it does leak.

      • +1

Mine had a hairline crack at the bottom of the bucket. It is 8+ years old though, so I contacted them and bought a replacement bucket.
For normal operation, there shouldn't be any leak at all.

    • That's a very valuable information, thanks!

      • You might want to check the power input.
I thought Ausclimate had a much higher power input - so more water captured but maybe more power?

  • Bought the Ionmax last year over compressor models because of the lower temperature here in Melbourne. Dessicant models work better in low temps. We run it amongst clothes on drying racks, in winter, it takes a couple of 8 hour runs to fully dry heavy clothes but sure, it does work well. As for noise, it is noisy and some heat is to be expected, but you can turn it down to a low setting if noise is an issue.

Would it not be cheaper to use a dryer for your clothes?

      • +2

Only if it is a heat pump dryer. If it is a standard vented dryer, that most apartments have if renting, then those use up a lot of electricity.

I've had one for 5+ years, and I'm very happy with it. Does its job well. It might not be the best of the best but it's a quality product for sure.

  • thanks got one
