they come with a bolt to screw into concrete/timber.

I am more concerned about fire than theft.

      • Me too. I've been keeping an eye on the fire one. I'm going to take another look today. Maybe they will finally reduce the price if they have a different safe coming in. It is different isn't it?

  • +4

They have had fire safes in-store and they are struggling to sell them. They have stubbornly kept it at $149.

    • None at GardenCity QLD. Wonder if they reduced the price and sold them or just removed them.

Stock is often moved to quieter store in same Aldi district. Done by District Manager. Can try asking store manager to check.

Is there such a thing as a dependable affordable safe? Or am I better off building an elaborate hidey hole?

I did toy with the idea of converting current office door into a hidden book shelf door but let’s be real I will prob cbf after first 10 min.

      building an elaborate hidey hole?

If you've got 8.22 million subs you could build a bunker.

      • +1

thought that link was going to be for colin furze's bunker build but this is MUCH more grand scale with full on heavy machinery.

        • +2

I didn't click because I knew he meant colins bunker but now reading this comment I need to check this video out!

    • Depends if you want to keep your fleshlight collection safe from fire or away from prying eyes.

      • nah always keep it at the bedside table or kitchen counter for quick access anytime

Costco have reduced their Sentrysafe Digital Fire and Water Safe from $419.99 to $329.99 in-store in their latest catalogue. Different class I imagine, not sure if the price difference is worth it.

    • Think the Costco one is bigger, this one in the deal is 20L capacity.

      • For sure. Can't really compare them but I just thought some people might be interested in something else. I'm still undecided.

        • From memory Costco one is 30 or 40L. I don't need that big a safe but, hence interested.

          • +1

@megadeth: Part of the indecision comes down to how difficult it would be to convince my wife we need one that big.

            • +1

@ozbs25: Ha ha… same here mate, the 'wife factor' is often the main reason to let go for most OzBargainers.

No good if you live in Lismore then.

    8 hours of waterproof protection

That's really weird. Either it's waterproof or leaks. It's not like it's sitting in acid.

    • to how many atmospheres?

    • Probably they tested for 8h and don't want to warranty for any longer. Honeywell is not a bad brand, BTW.

  • Anyone knows the specs of this? It doesn't seem to show it on website

  • After fire, the keypad should be destroyed. How can I open the door?

    • +1

With one of 2 keys it comes with

We bought one a few weeks ago, havent lost anything yet. :-).
One thing to remember, It states you need to open and air it for 30 minutes every 2 weeks so your stuff doesn't get mouldy.
I read some reviews of other water proof safes and theres a lot of comments about finding mouldy passsports and stuff in them.

    • That's weird, how's the moisture getting in if it's meant to be waterproof?

      • You lock in Moisture, unless you seal it in a vacuum chamber

    • Thanks for sharing. Had no idea about this.

Maybe try indicating silica gel? The blue ones change colour to pink once they have absorbed water, so you can know to dry it out again by putting it in the oven.

I haven't tried it with documents in a safe, but I use them for the container in which I put my camera lenses (which can grow fungus if there is moisture).

You can buy little plastic containers that come with a small amount in there, but I found it more economical to just buy a large bag e.g. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/274443604999 (600g for ~$20). I put mine into a cloth bag (I used https://www.kmart.com.au/product/5-pack-muslin-bags-42364603… ), plus I keep about a tsp free in a lid so I can see at a glance if their colour has changed.

(Note: The blue ones contain cobalt so keep them away from kids/pets, but if you're putting them in a safe then this probably isn't an issue.)

      • Will try that. It does comes with a bag of silica, but not sure how long that will last.

      • Was going to suggest this but you beat me to it. Desiccant absorption pads such as these (https://www.bunnings.com.au/concrobium-moisture-grabbers-hum…) will address the mould issues. If these are flood proof then whatever grams of moisture are locked in when you open and close the door will be absorbed into the desiccant pouch.

If you keep the door shut, there wouldn't really be a need to replace the pouch regularly; once the moisture is in the desiccant pouch it shouldn't come out unless it's heated up.

  • Slightly different look, potentially similar innards:

    :-)

  • Will definitely help keep my 200+ Pocketmoney GC safe….

  • Any idea if this would fit a 13" macbook laptop? or 2 of them ideally

Are these they type that the lockpickinglawyer can get through in 3 minutes?
