This or ipad 9th or 10th?

    • Keen to see the answers.im in way too deep with apple eco system but this tablet specs seems much better than iPads at this price point

    • +2

Even though I have a Samsung phone I would go for an Ipad for a tablet. Until Google and developers lift their game for apps on larger screens, unfortunately Apple wins hands down.

    • Unless things have changed, most Android apps are phone apps scratched to fit. The support for Tablets is lacking and it really is a shame. It really comes down to use case and the apps/games you want. Also if you like to customise the hell out of something, Android. If you just want to install apps and use them how they are made, Apple.

I’ve returned my Lenovo P11 pro due to lack of updates, one OS update is not enough. I also found it laggy when compared to my iPads, it would stutter sometimes, not always but enough to annoy me. TradingView, one of my key apps was missing the chat feature, odd when the iOS app has it. If you enjoy updates or your workplace mandates them (mine does) stick with Samsung, Google or Xiaomi.

  • is 6gb ram enough? or will this thing die in 2 years

    • +2

It's enough for streaming and basic web browsing.

What else are most users doing on a tablet?

        • +2

Some people purchase them for work and use Citrix environments or the Samsung DEX platform. I wouldn't use this tablet for that kid of usage.

          • -3

@ifreddo: That's some users, and probably a very small percentage, not most users.

            • +2

              @magic8ballgag: That's why I said "some" users…

              • -1

@ifreddo: I asked what else most users are doing on a tablet, you replied with what some users may want to do.

                • @magic8ballgag: Do you have anything else better to do other than go around trolling people's comments? Your comment was pointless and added nothing to the conversation.

                  • @ifreddo: If I'm trolling, then so are you.

My question was genuine, and you replied with something that didn't even answer it.

                    • @magic8ballgag: You were genuinely asking a rhetorical question that you already knew the answer to? Explain that to me, troll.

                      • @ifreddo: It wasn't rhetorical, and it's fine if you can't answer it.

You're not expected to know everything.

                        • @magic8ballgag: You're a real piece of work. Not worth the time or effort. Enjoy your future trollscapades.

I mean it will get 4 years of software updates so I think you'll be fine

    • My main phone is still only 4GB RAM but surviving

The Xiaoxin Pad Pro 2022 (which can be flashed to Global Android 13) is better value than this. A better machine for a fraction of the price.

    • +4

Local warranty and 4 years of software updates.
Lenovo china will give you zilch.
Worth a couple of hundred dollars more I reckon.

      • -1

Samsung bloatware will make the device slower. It's worth the compromise for a better machine. 120hz OLED is night and day difference.

        • So this one on Aliexpress can be flashed with the Global Android 13?

@Wally: Not worth it, I got one with global ROM and it was buggy as hell. I reflashed it to original Chinese ROM and it's been great so far. The other downside of global ROM is the bootloader would be unlocked and Netflix, Amazon HD won't work. It's better to get Chinese version and select English language at setup. Playstore can be downloaded from Lenovo app store.

            • +1

@eastwood27: Because that Global ROM is an unofficial version. Of course you're going to have troubles with it. You need the original sealed Chinese firmware, then flash it with the Lenovo RSA tool, to convert it the official Global ROM. Scroll down the page for the guide

          • @Wally: No. Has to be Kompanio 1300T model. There's no global Snapdragon 870 variant.

            • @Griffindinho: There is, mine was. I reflashed it to original Chinese ROM

              • @eastwood27: Then it wasn't… Because you mentioned the bootloader was unlocked. Thus it's not the official ROM for the tablet…

                • @Griffindinho: I meant snapdragon 870 with global ROM, officially there isn't any global ROM for this tablet

                  • @eastwood27: Then yeah. With that model, it’s best for it to be on ZUI. I would’ve picked that model over the Kompanio, but there’s no offical global firmware for it.

Bought this Lenovo tab from Aliexpress recently, but it arrived with left speaker hissing and massive feedback issue. Was an absolute pita dealing with seller to fix the problem, until eventually getting Paypal involved and just posted it back to China for refund this morning.

Great specs on this tablet but Lenovo QC on this range seems pretty rubbish, so would suggest saving yourself the potential stress of receiving a faulty unit. Heard of another person here buying one and it turning up with DOA wireless network, so it seems I wasnt the only one caught out. But YMMV.

          • @Matt2024: Link? Mines been fine so far. Great tablet.

            • @Griffindinho: I'm glad to hear it. Disappointed that I couldnt say the same for my unit

See below for other unlucky buyer - I had read his reply from earlier thread but he also chimed in here just after I commented.

Not worth it for the lack of warranty… I purchased from this deal: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/14454917/redir

I got a dud unit with faulty WiFi. Close to 2 months later and I've still not been refunded despite forking out $50 to ship it back to China. Seller is dodgy and and refuses to confirm with Aliexpress that the tablet has been returned in order to process the refund. They insist on sending it back to Lenovo and waiting for their tech to assess it despite that not being in the terms of the refund based on the Aliexpress dispute.

Luckily I've got screenshots of the chat where he has pictures of the tablet being received so hopefully Aliexpress will side with me once the dispute runs out of time and Aliexpress steps in.

Learnt my lesson now that buying anything of high value from Aliexpress is just not worth it.

      • +1

Can you raise the dispute with Paypal? … had similar experience with seller when seeking technical assistance for my faulty unit. Poor customer service is an understatement.

        • Yeah that's my next point of action. My dispute will close in 3 days time where Aliexpress will step in since the seller hasn't confirmed delivery yet on their side of the dispute. I'm hoping Aliexpress will rule in my favour and refund me once the time's up. If not, then I'll dispute it with Paypal. Failing that, I'll issue a CC chargeback.

Still going to be $50 out of pocket due to shipping…

          • @keyman: If you pay with Paypal won't they reimburse you the ruturn shipping cost? .. or is there a limit to the amount they will provide per shipment?

  • Is the regular base model Tab S9 a better option over this?

    • +2

Yep esp in terms of processing power

      • AMOLED 120Hz screen as well, and 8GB or 12GB ram depending on the model you get. This will make the tablet a last a lot longer then 6GB.

  • Cheaper if you can do trade in and 10% off on Samsung Shop App
128GB comes down to $429 for me
    Trade in bonus applied

Possibly cheaper if you can stack $50 newsletter code on top

    • +1

Is there currently an additional trade in bonus?

      • Yup $150 bonus it says with trade in
        And $100 off RRP

  • +2

Was looking at s9fe's earlier when they were offering all the trade-in bonuses on the samsung store but they're very cut down compared to the s9 and even worse off than previous gen flagships.

Quickly realised I was better off just buying a second S7/S8, better specc'd for less money and lots of people offloading them currently.

Grabbed a mint s7+ 8gb/256gb for $380, so might be worth having a look on gumtree/ebay/fb marketplace and save some money if you don't mind buying second hand.

    • Only reason I wouldn’t do this is software support and battery degradation. Came out in 2020, but yeah I can see why people are happy to buy a used older device.

    • You did well for $380. Not finding anything even close to that price for a S7+ let alone a S8. S7+ are closer to $600+ on Ebay/Gumtree.

      • I'll admit you have to keep an eye out, but they are out there.

Before I decided I wanted the 12.4" form factor I had a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Wi-Fi 128GB on ebay bookmarked and it ended up selling for $425aud posted.

    • wow, that is good value. I sold my S7+ 8gb/256gb 5G model for $700 about 4 months back.

      • Yeap and is still not far off current prices.

  • They increased the cost of the tablet listing to 799 so the $60 off is barely worth it now

  • The s8 ultra at $999 is a good size for viewing movie, sport. 14.3" I think. Bit bulky as an ipad replacement though in my opinion. Comes with a pen. If you buy using the Samsung shopping app first time use you can get an extra 10% off.

  • I'm never buying from Bing Lee again. They took my order for 2x S9 tablets on 30/11 and didn't even have them in stock. They estimate stock will be 1-2 weeks away. Dodgy as..
