      Can you redeem US Steam gift card in AU region?

      The Steam help page(https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/78E3-7431-1E88-AD…) says -

      Are there country restrictions on Steam Wallet codes?
      Yes. Each Steam User Account is associated with a specific currency, which you can see in the top right corner of your Steam Client. You may encounter an error if you try to activate a Steam Wallet Code issued in a different currency than the one of your Steam User Account.[/i]

    • My thoughts exactly

  • Windows 11 is included by default on the listing our website. Applying the discount code 'CYBERWKNDNOOS' will apply the $1200 discount and remove Windows 11 from your order.

    Removing that stain upon computing and dropping the price? Where's the catch?!

  • +11

    "knock $1200 off the listed price " for a system with partpicker only worth $2890. Lol

    • +10

      Yeah wasn't a fan of how that was done either. Had a word with the sales team and they've updated the pricing and discount codes accordingly.

      Never was intended to be sold without the discount codes applied anyway, we had them plastered at the top of the product page. Our sales team play with pricing and promotions to see what works. Some people think big price, big discount is better than small price, small discount. At the end of the day the only price that matters is the price you pay!

      • It's a good thing you changed it. If it was never meant to be sold without the discount codes, then it was a fictitious price to begin with, and very misleading.

    Can US gift cards still be redeemed on Australian Steam accounts?

    https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/78E3-7431-1E88-AD…

    Note:
    We have made some changes to how Steam Wallet Codes are redeemed on Steam, as part of our ongoing effort to reduce scams like the ones explained HERE. These changes should not impact regular customers who enjoy using Steam wallet codes they purchase at retail in their local currency.

    Each Steam User Account is associated with a specific currency, which you can see in the top right corner of your Steam Client. Going forward, you may encounter an error if you try to activate a Steam Wallet Code issued in a different currency than the one of your Steam User Account.

    • I would have to assume MSI has figured this out. Perhaps it's a AUD gift card to the value of $250 USD? It's definitely not the first time MSI has ran Steam gift card promos so I'm sure they have a solution!

    • That message has been on the steam support page since August 2021, but I redeemed Steam Wallet codes from a similar MSI promo in October 2021 no problem. Interestingly, my Steam transaction history says the codes where in Taiwanese dollars even though the promo and redemption process said it was in USD.

    A pretty underwhelming deal that I see absolutely no point in buying given that you can grab a 7800X3D/RTX 4080 build with almost identical parts for $200 dollars more (plus that build has plenty of upgrade options to choose from).

    The overall performance-per-dollar just doesn't compare to BPC's deal or TechFast's recent Black Friday deals, which offered a 7800X3D/RTX 4080 PC for $2688.

    Also, Evatech were recently banned for sockpuppeting (hence why they didn't post anything earlier during the BF sales) so make of that what you will but I personally don't trust any vendor who gets banned from OzBargain as it tends to be well-deserved.

    • +1

      I personally don't trust any vendor who gets banned from OzBargain

      So Amazon, JB Hi-Fi and a heap of the other big names?

    • +14

      Oh hello again!

      almost identical parts for $200 dollars more

      • Half the SSD capacity, G3 instead of G4
      • 120mm Tower Air cooler instead of 360mm AIO
      • No WiFi or BT
      • 2Y warranty instead of 3-5Y
      • No bonus ~ $377 ish worth of Steam Gift card

      Upgrading to a 240mm AIO, a 2TB G4 NVMe SSD and adding WiFi takes their total up to $3316 before shipping which looks like it's ~ $30-$60 by AusPost. I guess if you assign zero value to the $377~ ish worth of steam gift card or free shipping in this deal or larger cooler or longer warranty then it's only a $517 difference. Pop the gift card value on top of that though and you're already at $894, then shipping to most places and you're well over $900. The retail price difference between the PNY RTX4080 and MSI Ventus 4070Ti is only about $500

      Also, Evatech were recently banned for sockpuppeting

      Ah yes, that was why it took us to long to post another deal and we missed out on the Black Friday / Cyber Weekend shenanigans! Funny story. On our last deal that got 90 upvotes we had a well meaning employee of his own volition take it upon himself to upvote the deal thinking he was just helping out from our office WiFi on the same IP as we posted the deal from. He's English isn't the best, he didn't know the rules on here, he clicked past and didn't read the warning, we had no idea until it was too late and both our accounts got banned for a while. Anyway, an annoyance but lesson learned. No exactly nefarious or made a blind bit of difference as to how well the deal performed.

        • +1

          I'd counter all of those points by saying that none of that will affect the gaming performance of that BPC build, which is what the overwhelming majority of buyers care about.

          Sure, but we're happy to cater to the 'underwhelming minority' who see do attribute value to all the extra's our deal offers out of the box.

          As GachaGamer mentioned, the Steam gift card is being offered by a bunch of different participating vendors currently including BPC Tech.

          Yep, but of course only if they include all the more expensive MSI components in the deal, like we have here. You don't quality for any gift card bonus with the BPC deal you're comparing us against.

          Zero performance value, yes.

          Of course… 🤷🏻

          Lets agree to agree on the fact that from a pure dollar to frames ratio, the BPC deal wins at it's default config.

          Lets agree to disagree that our deal is not a deal because it offers a bunch of non-performance focused upgrades & extras where we could have otherwise shaved extra dollars off.

          • @evatech:

            Sure, but we're happy to cater to the 'underwhelming minority' who see do attribute value to all the extra's our deal offers out of the box.

            So you don't like to sell too much stock and maximise your profits?

            Interesting business philosophy…

            Lets agree to disagree that our deal is not a deal because it offers a bunch of non-performance focused upgrades & extras where we could have otherwise shaved extra dollars off.

            Know your market, mate.

            In these times, shaving dollars off wherever possible is what people care about primarily.

            I'm no psychic but I would happily wager you won't be shifting as many units of this build as BPC do of theirs or TechFast did during their Black Friday deals and it's going to come entirely down to the almighty performance-per-dollar ratio.

            But what do I know, I've just seen which PC gaming deals have been the most wildly successful over the past few years and I've also noticed Evatech is up against some extremely fierce competition (especially given that you don't post many gaming PC deals at all) and I'm offering sincere advice here that would actually help your sales.

            The bottom line is, as much as you hate to admit it, you need to step up your game because the deluge of PC gaming deals posted on OzBargain this year have left your offerings well and truly in the dust and that's as kindly as I can put it.

            • @Gnostikos: Honestly appreciate where you're coming from. I'm sure you're not wrong, the majority obviously respond very possibility to the bare-bones no frills all performance lowest price possible PC builds here.

              Like you said though, that market is very well catered to already. Who knows, maybe the higher ups will give that a try one day. They are always playing with different approaches to see what does and doesn't work.

              In the meantime though we're just putting the feelers out to see if there is a niche here that we can serve that appreciates our approach instead. If our last couple of deals is anything to go by, there seems to be. At the end of the day it's just more options for the consumer which we would think is a good thing ultimately :)

              We're not expecting to sell a ton of these overnight, especially given the deluge of deals that happened over the last week or two. A lot of people with a gaming PC on their shopping list have surely already purchased and are off the market. But we are here for those who are keen on this sort of config and have yet to bite the bullet!

      • +1

        Incorrect. They are very very flexible and add parts to the drop-down menu.
        This build https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/73BMFs could have been had for $3136 albeit ram was the 6400 mhz variant not the 6000 listed in PCPP listing, a difference $337 and is a substantially better PC. The only think yours has is double the SSD which is a waste as you would want a second SSD and leave a dedicated for the OS.
        So @Gnostikos is actually correct.

      Man you have a hate boner for Evatech and maybe too much time on your hands https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/811769#comment-14563300

      • -2

        Yup people blindly upvoting someone with an agenda.

        • -1

          It's not really an agenda, the deal itself isn't that great (not even factoring in the fact that they want to put their rrp as 4k). Especially if you exclude the steam voucher - which is not limited to evatech, the list of applicable vendors is on MSI's website: https://au.msi.com/Promotion/anz-get-powered-by-msi-2023

          Here it's important to note that the deal's applicable rules are: From 17th November 2023 – 29th February, 2024 (UTC + 08:00), participants (“You, “Your”, as applicable) may enroll in the “POWERED BY MSI” promotion (“Event”) – while supplies last.

          The following are the actual requirements

          MSI Motherboard + MSI Graphics Card $85 gift card

          MSI Motherboard + MSI Graphics Card + MSI Case $125 gift card

          MSI Motherboard + MSI Graphics Card + MSI Power Supply + MSI Case + MSI Liquid Cooler $250 gift card

          (all giftcards are in USD)

          The above comment is correct in pointing out that this isn't exactly a great deal. As for the allegations and response to sockpuppeting, that's up to the individual on how they react.

      • -6

        @moojuice

        Yeah, you got me Sherlock.

        That was the first time I've commented on an Evatech deal ever and all I did was offer some extremely mild criticism of their build which their store rep got incredibly defensive about (or even partially agreed with me), that for some reason tickled the collective pickle of the OzBargain hive-mind that day and resulted in a bunch of negs.

        Maybe you want to actually read that comment thread in your link instead of just blindly assuming I was in the wrong because "LoL u GoT nEgGeD!!1!".

        So I posted on two Evatech deals where I quite justifiably pointed out that there are better gaming PC deals currently available and that makes me some kind of shill who's purposely trolling Evatech?

        Unquestionably sound logic.

        Now let's trawl through your posting history and find a brand/vendor you don't like and have commented about more than once so I can accuse you of being a front for an organised smear campaign because saying anything negative about a specific vendor more than once is evidence of having an irrational hatred of something.

        • +1

          wow you make a lot of assumptions thanks for the chuckle

  • Any chance in changing the motherboard to an ITX model?

    • Sorry, no. It's a fixed spec this one. Out of curiosity, why would you want an ITX motherboard in this mid tower build? Unless you wanted to harvest it's parts and re-build it in your own ITX chassis? In which case the cooler probably wouldn't fit?

      • That's exactly what I want to do lol. Us needs do weird stuff ya know

        • Maybe they will sell you the unopened boxes as a kit

  • +10

    4070, 4070 Ti and 4080 prices are in free fall with the Super variants already in production for the Jan announcement

    The OzB'ers with day jobs at the big 4 whinging about exchange rates are now silent with the AUD at 0.66 USD and climbing

    Combine those two and the challenge is clear - who will be the OzB PC builder who steps up and takes the prize for deal of the year with the $2K 4080 build?

    @evatech
    @Nebula PC
    @BPC Technology
    @luketechfast
    @enigmapc

    • +2

      Well, it probably won't be us. You'll have to cut a lot of corners to get a sub $2k 4080 build together. We prefer the well rounded, quality but still great value route.

      We'd love to see some steep discounts on the current RTX4070/4080 models but I'm sure NVIDIA and their partners have all carefully planned out their production and inventory to dry up just as the new models land. Unless a retailer or distributor screws up their forecasting and gets stuck holding a bunch they can't otherwise sell, I doubt we'll see huge price cuts. We just have to hope NVIDIA are aggressive with the MSRP pricing on the new models!

  • the 7800x3d is a beast of a cpu, i just upgraded from a 5900x and am no longer cpu limited on a 6900xt @ 1440p

    • What games were you cpu limited with a 5900x + 6900xt @ 1440p?

      • It was everything surprisingly. I play a lot of warthunder (tanks\Jets) and oftent had stutters and drops. Other new games like jedi survivor had frame drops and stutters which have now been eliminated. I expected a greater fps uplift but what have seen is a greater minimum fps which is great in overall performance. Dont expect much more fps but more stable fps which is worth the coin imo.

        • That is surprising.and abnormal. Might be a faulty CPU? I've got the same setup and works flawlessly

          • @mandelbrot: I think I had a cursed motherboard. I never had problems initially it was only in the last 6 months to a year. Could have been a bad bios update

  • Nahhhhh bf and previous 4080 deals are better.

  • Am I interpreting this right… it’s really just $11 off normal price?

    Windows is being removed to look like saving money?

    $2799 with Windows would sound more like a deal no?

    • +1

      There's no 'normal price' for this particular build, we put it together as a limited run specifically for this deal.

      The 'deal' being in this instance, that we're offering the fully assembled system ready to go out of the box for less than the price shopping around and building it yourself, plus on top of that, there is free delivery to most of the country and a USD $250 worth of steam gift card value redeemable from MSI.
