Cancelled nbn Plan Still Working?

Hi guys, I cancelled my NBN with Exetel a while ago to move to More Telecom.

My last day with Exetel (after 1 month's wait) was on the 8th of November and my plan with more kicked in on the 9th. I haven’t changed the modem setting yet and still using the old configuration.

I'm just curious to know what is going on and how can I check that if I'm still using the old service or what.

Thanks.

Go to Speedtest. Does it say Exetel or Vocus?

    • Vocus

    • This confirm this is the new plan with More, but how this work with my old configuration

Both use PPPoE, you probably don't need to change any modem router settings.

        • Thanks mate

That will probably require a new username and password.

If two RSPs are IPoE/DHCP, then you won't need to change.

      • Normally you need to change the username and password for PPPoE. Are you getting the right speed?

        • Yes speed is pretty good,

  • What are you worried about here ?

Nothing, just curious to know, how this possible

      • Technology, what can't it do.

      • It’s a config update on their end they need to update user list I think

        • thanks

  • What modem are you using? I have a telstra modem with 4g backup and the backup will work if I don't have an active DSL connection, regardless of ISP.

Mine is same, that's really interesting

  • I once had no NBN for 2 weeks when changing ISP. I borrowed a friends surplus modem with 4g back up and plugged it in. Because there was no DSL signal, it went to 4g backup and I had free internet until my DSL kicked in from the new provider.

Could it be that you're using the 4g network ?

    • No I don't have 4G back up

  • If both providers use DHCP / Auto Configuration then you don't need to do anything as your modem picks up the settings it needs to from the ISP's servers.
Only with PPPoE do you need to enter a new username and password into the router / modem.
Most modems are both a router and modem combined now a days.
