  • Is that a deal man? That's the usual stuff that they offer

    • It beats paying full price (which I would have).
Is that a "usual" thing? I don't know.

Do you know of any better deals?

      • I used to get that as well and dismissed it. The hp support was so bad. Used to take at least 10 calls to get one issue escalated. Maybe they changed their offering recently.

  • if you can get access to their student portal, the 2 year onsite is commonly found in the $25-$50 mark.

  • Whats with the, 3 day Onsite?

    • +1

Yep takes them 3 business days to turn up. Seems a bit crap. I believe you have to sit thru someone trying to remote diagnose first, which can be quite painful after you've already diagnosed the fault.

  • In Australia, you get 2 years warranty (Apple finally got their butts handed to them for charging people for YEARS for the 2nd year of the god given warranty, yes, theyre the worst Warranty bilker in IT history and worst company on earth, but i digress)

All this gives you is either:

2 Years of your god given warranty - but they come to you and you dont have to return to them for warranty

    or

2 Years of your god given warranty - but they come to you and you dont have to return to them for warranty, plus another year.

In 30+ years of IT, number of times ive had clients who have been charged (i cant say bilked as its onsite and may be attractive to some) for this type of warranty (from any manufacturer) AND used it: 3

I was one, bought a HP business laptop second hand which still had extended warranty plan attached, when the motherboard died 7 months later, i put in a call and some poor kiddie had to drive all the way from Wollongong to Bowral (where i lived then) to replace the motherboard. He was pleasant enough but did share that the model i had took 4 hours to disassemble and reassemble and was the longest to complete replacement in training due to the intricate wiring routing :) Only time in my IT life ive let someone fix something i owned, but well, i had the warranty….and i did fix him afternoon tea…

To give some context, your average local PC fixit guy or that Geeks 2 U is probably going to charge between $30-$50 an hour or $70-$100+ for a fixed price result
