Imo, without active cooling, these things always overheat sitting on a dashboard in the sun.
How do I know? Because I've been chasing the "holy grail" of magnetic wireless car charging.

The ONLY working solution i've found, that has yet to overheat/stop charging (2+ years now) is this:
    https://www.amazon.com.au/ESR-HaloLock-Wireless-CryoBoost-Co…

No affiliation etc, just someone who really wanted the co-benefits of wireless charming and no clamps/locks etc.

If it helps, I have a S22 Ultra and purchased a thin TPU case with a ring magnet built in, and it can sit at any angle/orientaion on the mount, same goes for the missus phone, and she has a cheap AliEx metal ring stuck to back of phone inside her case.

    Hope this helps someone

    • thanks for the info! one question, how secure is the vent mount pls ?

      • +1

Yeah pretty secure. I mean the mount itself is rock solid, and there is a little tab that folds down to act as an additional rest point to stop and wiggle or vibration. The attachment is two prongs that go either side of a vent slot, and then tighten by turning another part. (all from memory since I'm at work)

My first mount formed a crack after approx 1.5 years (yet still stayed rock solid) and I sent them a email with a photo, asking for a new mount attachment to be sent out, and they just sent me an entirely new unit which was awesome!

    • Yeah they are nice. Some active airflow makes a huge difference to the charger coil overheating! (and helps the phone too)

I have found vent mounting works in general works pretty well for dealing with heat, since the hotter it is, the more you have it cranked. Works better in some cars compared to others though.

A slim magnetic wireless mount is no doubt better, but I used to use a chunky plastic electric opening one meant for a Galaxy Fold (to accomodate a wallet case, and vertical use) and vent mounting keeps it cool enough and does not block all the air from that vent. With the aircon blasting, the more exposed parts of the phone and charger end up quite cold to the touch.

In my partners car, the vent is in annoying spot, and dash mount meant overheating. But retrofitting a CD player slot mount onto a wireless charger kept the phone far enough out of the sun that wireless charging has always been fine. I picked up a Satechi Wireless charger from a deal a while back and it has been good in my partners car. Overpriced normally though I think. It has vents on the rear, and the aluminium construction is a good heat sink. So as long as is it somewhat out of the sun, or can have a vent aimed near it on very hot days, that seems to do ok.

I grabbed one of those cheap portable style wireless Android Auto screens during the black Friday sales. So that is the next experiment - figuring out the best mounting spot for that where it won't overheat.

The cooling design is that of a fan, which is overhyped. The fan is noisy and it doesn't last long. Why don't you turn up the car's air conditioner?

      • Not all car aircon vents are well positioned for phone mounts.

And in many parts of Aus, without air directly blowing on a phone and charger, even with the aircon at max, it won't stay cool enough if there is sun shining in the windscreen.

      • Haha ok? It can be overhyped as you want it to be, but end of the day, it works - even on the hottest days, with phone sitting in the sun. The one you’ve posted won’t be doing any charging in hot and sunny conditions.

The other issue with these is in winter on longer drives, as having the heater on also leads to overheating.

I’d dare say you may have just a touch of a vested interest here..

Have you done any evaluation of ESR products? Leave the same message in various sales of similar products. Do you all work at ESR?

            @Jone: That's a mount, not a charger.

No one is suggesting that ESR products are not more expensive. Or that the Tough on charger is or isn't any good in comparison - it certainly looks the same as the equivalent ESR product.

But it's a relatively unknown brand, and has incomplete specs on the eBay listing, and Tough on website. That won't exactly get people jumping at the deal.

It's also a separate issue to the valid point Tuttle raised - for many usage cases, wireless car chargers without a fan can struggle with heat.

          • @Jone: Lol wut? I have my feedback on a product that works for me, after doing a lot of research and trailing numerous subpar solutions.
You're aware that this is OzBargain where people share ideas and feedback, and not your own sales website..?
