  • thanks! was looking at buying one of these :)

  • Do it,

  • Awesome deal, very tempting… I have also been looking at purchasing one of these. I'm after the 15-85 IS USM kit though, grey import kits go for around a grand but doesn't look like you guys stock that lens. :(

Any deals coming up on the Nikon D5100 Kits at all? in the near future

  • +1

Something to consider if you are undecided as to get the kit lens. I've found kit lenses tend to be fairly cheap on eBay, $60-$90ish I think. presumably a lot of people get them included and then flog them off. (Personally I've kept my kit lenses; I have two special purpose lenses, and my cheap kit lens has come in handy for general snapping, but YMMV)

    • Do you have any links of this? I had a quick look on eBay and the same lens included in this kit seems to sell for $100-120. Any suggestions on another good multi purpose lense to go with this body?

      • Depends on your budget. If you don't want to spend much, either the Canon EF-S 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 IS or EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS would be fine for multi purpose use. Can get them for around $300-500 on DWI or eBay. Might be able to find a Sigma or Tamron equivalent for a bit cheaper. If you can afford it, it's always worth spending the extra on higher quality EF mounts, especially if you plan on upgrading the body to a full-frame at a later stage. Just read reviews before you buy.

      • Hmm, I may have been thinking of the IS lens rather than the IS II lens (I am more familiar with Nikon). I am not sure how important the improved IS is in a 55mm lens and can't find IS II in dpreview. The IS II lens has been sold for $60 in the past, though that doesn't necessarily help you now.

  • So many +ves, so little comments. Time to put my investigative hat on and research this particular SLR. It seems affordable for such a quality camera.

When does the sale finish up?

  • This is a quality cam. So cheap. Would def buy if I didn't get the Dick Smith deal on the 550D earlier this year.

the Body price went up $9!

    • Hi heyrosered,
Apologies for that, this error has now been fixed on our site. The pricing is at $465 again.
      Thanks for pointing that out!

wat da hell? I was going to buy, and then the price went up. Care to explain?

    • Hi Chum,
This has now been fixed. Many thanks!

  • Please check shopbot before posting such deals.

    This is available for $412

    http://www.shopbot.com.au/pp-canon-eos-600d-price-294903.htm…

    • But this is Australian stock. I'm certain $412 is for grey import.

    • I think it's perfectly fine for CameraPro to post their deals on here, even if it's not the absolute lowest price out there. Plus, it's Australian stock.

    • LOL! With $75 shipping + Grey Market…

  • How does this compare to Nikon D5100 kit for $480 + $80
    http://www.shoppingsquare.com.au/product.php?id=85083?

    • Actually the D5100 is $635 at Camera Pro (australian stock?):

I'm going to assume to also want to compare brands as well as price. I'm sure this will come in handy for people trying to decide which to buy.

I have used Nikon for quite some time (D40, D80, D3100), and just recently purchased the Canon 600D, and I quite like it. Although I haven't really used the 5100, There are a few things i've noticed about each brand:

Nikon - I like the position of the on/off switch just below the shutter button, more ergonomic and natural position; SD door is spring loaded (600D is not); Shutter dial is on the back where the thumb is (on the top on 600D), Plastic body feels/seems sturdier than Canon.

      Canon - I like having a dedicated iso button (not sure if 5100 has one); body feels lighter (not a big difference if you have heavy lenses); Live view button in a more convenient position compared to 3100; you can use non branded batteries (I found this out trying to wire an AC adapter to the 3100, Nikon have genuine battery check, but you an get around this if you use a battery grip);

What I don't like with the 600D - Movie mode is on the dial which is a little cumbersome if you use manual mode as its all the way around the other side of the dial (the 650D has rectified this by putting it on the on off switch).

Its personal preference at the end of the day. Although i am used to using Nikons, it didn't take too long to get used to the Canon. I have Nikon lenses, and bought one of those Nikon lenses to Canon body adapters. It only works with one of my old 50mm lenses, but i'm determined to get it to work with my other ones.

      Hope this helps!

Okay guys, I bought this camera last year off Kogan.com.au for ~ $900 including shipping. I was happy with this price point. It is an excellent camera with solid performance with stills and video. In particular, I think the video functions of the camera including the flip-out screen and the 1080p 60fps sets it apart from other DSLRs. At this stage, a year later, I feel that (after heavy use) I'm reaching the technical limits of the camera, and will probably soon progress to the 7D.

However, the 600D is incredibly good, especially for this price point, and I do recommend it to any would-be buyers. In particular, ladies may prefer this camera due to its smaller size - I recently recommended the 600D over the 60D to one of of my (female) friends because, simply, it is a smaller unit and easier to handle. She loves it!

    • 1080p 60fps? No canon DSLR does this. 720p 60fps yes. 1080p 30fps is the best theyve done with their dslrs though.

      • +1

Sorry! I was in a hurry and yes, what you're saying is correct.
The full list of options is as follows:
        1080p at 24, 25 or 30fps
        720p at 50, 60fps
        640p at 25, 30fps.

  • how abt the Canon onDicksmiths now? is that affordable price?$478

    • it is 1100. 600d is absolutely different league.
600D will serve you at least 2..3 years. 1100 will start limiting you in 6 months at most.

  • Was waiting over the weekend for the price to be fixed back to $465 for body only, but lucky I waited out!

I live in Melbourne, so shipping is cheaper and warranty would be easier to deal with too!

Saying that the advertised 18-55 kit is still cheaper at CameraPro!

  • OPPS - Posted on wrong thread

  • Bad price for a 600D

Can easily get a 650D from somewhere, at just a few dollars extra.

    • PLEASE link me the 650D for a few dollars extra than $465.

Because I'm not finding one easily at all.
