Is it likely that prices will improve for mid January Singapore to Australia flights? Currently January cost significantly more than December flights but I'm just wondering if by the time January rolls around the prices could improve?

lol no, highly doubt it. School holidays and Lunar New Year period will mean prices will be high.
No. Mid to late January is peak time for flights into Australia. People coming back from holidays in time for school starting in February.
We managed to get cheap flights towards the end of Feb with Scoot a few weeks back. They were about 400 return without luggage. Anything before that was going to cost heaps and I don’t see the price dropping.
I don't think travel to an around asia is going to get much cheaper until a few weeks after chinese new year on Feb 10.
