Suggestions for Asus Router for nbn HFC

Hi OzB brains trust,

Can anyone suggest a reliable Asus router for Hybrid Fibre Coaxial (HFC) nbn? Brownie points if you can find it on a sale/bargain.

  • Budget $400
  • 100/20 nbn connection
  • Single story, 4 bedroom home
  • Router will be in a room at one end of home (i.e. not central) - may need mesh
  • Use: working from home, streaming, browsing, light gaming
  • Prefer to buy from an Aussie supplier to avoid any region-lock issues

Thank you in advance.

Get an eero. It literally just works. Fantastic little units. Add more as and when you want for mesh coverage.

You probably don’t need the more expensive eero 6 for only 100mbit speeds. Standard eero unit very sufficient.

The 3-pack is within your budget if you want perfect coverage inside and garden (albeit was $199 in BF sale).

You can also get an eero 6 ‘free’ if you switch to Superloop (subject to staying 18 months else pro-rata payback).

The particular Asus router I (also on a HFC NBN connection) use is this one. I've had it in operation for about 4ish years now and it's been absolutely rock solid. 5Ghz coverage for the significant majority of my entire property but the 2.4Ghz range is incredible. I get almost full reception across the road at my neighbors place. Both my place and my neighbors place are both set back from the road so it's a testament to how damn good it is.

In addition, I previously had 3 of these but once I put the current device in, didn't have any need whatsoever for the mesh network.
