  • Damn it! Just got the stainless steel version for $270 on black friday, the cheapest I could find. Really good price for the highest rated microwave on Choice. Do note, reliability has been an issue with these and are not meant to be kept in an enclosed space. At this price cant fault it

    • +37

"highest rated" and "reliability has been an issue" shouldn't go together!

      • +5

Goes to show that choice ratings are not meaningful.

        • +4

Choice rate product performance separately from reliability

        • +2

I sadly agree…. the quality of their work has plunged from what it used to be. Much of the "current" articles seem to be written by buffoons.

I was sucked into signing up again recently…. to find that most of the product tests in a big comparison article were on items over 2 years old and no longer available, despite the claimed "updated 2023"

I reckon there should a consumer warning about paying for choice membership.

      • +4

Look up reviews of any microwave, sharp or Panasonic, not a single one is reliable. Everything is cheap china made crap nowadays.

If you want something that does the job better at the price you are paying - it's this.

    • +2

I have a similar LG model with the dial. It really struggles in the space we have for our microwave. After about 10 minutes anything after that takes 4 times as long to cook/reheat.

    • GoodnessChoice has LG microwaves as the top four!
Given the feed back below, that is a pretty poor effort by Choice.

Choice does say however: “ LG's latest reliability score based on our 2021 survey results was 89%. This is slightly below the 92% average reliability score for all brands (in 2019 LG's reliability score was 92%).”

      Choice reliability based on feedback:
Most reliable brands: Kmart, Miele, Samsung, Breville, Westinghouse, Panasonic, Sharp and LG.
Highest owner satisfaction: Miele, Samsung, Panasonic, LG, Breville, Westinghouse, Sharp and Kmart.

Personally we have always preferred Sharp Carousel.

    • +2

      Mine died within 24 hours.

I was excited for the features, spent ages looking at it at Good Guys and the sales rep was adamant it was safe for enclosed spaces. Needless to say, it was not. Looking online I saw the dichotomy of positive reviews with reliability issues.

I won't be in a hurry to buy LG again personally.

Queue position in JB live chat… 40.

    • Let us know how you go

    • +6

On black Friday I jumped on after 5pm and was 199 (have a screenshot somewhere). I thought it was a joke and that the chat was already closed, so walked off and carried on with the evening. About 2-3 hours later jumped on to the laptop to take care of some other work and saw I was in single digits. Waited 5 mins and spoke to the rep if they could do a deal on a laptop which was already a black friday specific deal and several hundred dollars off. They were super apologetic about the fact that I had to wait so many hours and so knocked off another $50 even though they weren't supposed to. Worth the 'wait' lol

  • Anyone know if it’s better to have the turntable glass plate or the ones without? Thanks

    • +6

We have non turntable microwaves in my work tearoom and I find they take longer to heat anything

    • +1

I have a Panasonic inverter but I regret the purchase as it heats unevenly. See this (not my post): https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/447041#comment-7107334 It says that LG is better than Panasonic, but still a bit uneven.

When it breaks I'll go back to a turntable one.

  • +5

Great microwave until it stops working. Mine stopped heating after 2 years.

    • +4

hey same! But I was glad for it to die because i hated the time setting input on it. Give me good ol +10 +1 min +10 sec buttons

    • +8

      Mine 1.5 year and died

      • +1

My inverter went too, after 2 years, but it was fixed for free within 15 minutes. First time I've ever attempted a warranty repair on anything, and it was out of warranty, but they didn't care at all (the inverter has a 10 year parts warranty but not labour)

        • Mine also went, but I don't think they changed anything. It was given back to be at the exact same condition and the same unusual buzzing sound

        • Inverter went on mine after 2 years. Got charged $90 labour to fix.

It's going fine another 2 years on, but the display has dropped some elements so time is hard to read.

Just replaced with a Breville 3 in 1

    • +3

      mine died after 18 months

    • +4

Wow, was thinking of buying it for a spare. My microwave is still going strong and it's 28 years old. So I'll give this one a miss.

      • +1

        @tiara
Microwave seals deteriorate over time and you need to get it checked for leakages.

    • +3

Wow. Even my ultra-cheap Aldi one has been running fine for 15 years.

I was thinking of upgrading because the fan is now starting to develop a slight rattle, but I think I'll pass.

    • +1

Mine died 2 year 2 mo, right after warranty, I’m glad I didn’t throw away the Kmart one I had for who knows how many years.

    • Yeah that stupid magnetron dies on these

  • +1

My microwave just died, so this is timely. What're your views on this though? Seems to have very loud negative reviews from users on ProductReview.com.au.

    • +3

Mine died as well, why do people love this so much, this is the first microwave I have that broke…

    • +3

piece of shit dont get it.

      • Mind elaborating please?

        • Yeah read the comments above dude. It breaks after a year and a bit. I also didnt like the interface at all.

        • Lg = dead magnetrons

  • PSElectronics Website is down.. Ozbargained? Or tactic from JB to not price match if their website is down, haha!

Website back up and $189 now

  • +8

JB is not matching price as they say as factory seconds.

    • +1

Ah I didn't see that in PS Electronics website, need to scroll down and select "Condition" tab. Very sneaky!

"A GRADE FACTORY SECOND PRODUCT, CONDITION MIGHT VARY, PLEASE CONTACT STORE FOR MORE DETAILS"

  • Is this microwave really 434 height? Isn’t that huge?

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/500975 Was more cheaper last time

  • +3

    From website:

"A GRADE FACTORY SECOND PRODUCT, CONDITION MIGHT VARY, PLEASE CONTACT STORE FOR MORE DETAILS"

  • +1

Looks and works great but like others have said it dies quickly. Mine only lasted 2 months, expecting a replacement.

  • Amazing, I bought this Microwave in 2018 for $187.62

  • +2

Also our lg is not shielded correctly and constantly drops 2.4ghz network when the power kicks in, stupidly annoying as wife likes to Netflix and cook.
We have 5ghz but there is band steering and mostly ends up on 2.4
    Also screws with Bluetooth headsets.
Unsure if it affects this model but be cautious.

    • +1

Netflix and cook, now thats something i can get behind

      • +1

I see what you did there.
        Good use of your head

  • OP please share the receipt..may be we can try on good guys

  • +2

i had one of these once, a decently sized fireball came out of an internal exhaust vent one night so we threw it away. The front of it looked disgusting because the glass would keep all the fingerprints and smudges - so you'd be wiping it down constantly. Was glad to be rid of it, i don't think these are very safe - it's the only product i've owned in years that basically exploded.

    • -1

I had a LG VCR and a LG DVD player many years ago, they both caught fire ….. I steer away from their products.

  • +3

I read that these have reliability issues.

  • +2

As others said, this died on me as well and my friend's one met with the same fate.

  • +1

mine broke today, i bought it 3 years ago. Not sure if i'll buy again, but for this price it might be worth it.. I paid $270 3 years ago for stainless black model. However in the 3 years, it's been an excellent microwave and sleek looking.

Today it died and no longer heats but makes a clicking noise, after some google search it's a Magnatron fault with these microwaves.

The LG microwave provides 2 years warranty, but 10 years on inverter/parts. After speaking with LG today, they said they would only warrant the part and I'd have to pay for labour.

Given labour would be $150 by the time I drive to tech, have it inspected then replaced etc. Not sure if it's worth it for repair if these microwaves fault after a few years.

Note 1 : this model is white model and I have the stainless steel black, which is usually more expensive and better looking :).
Note 2 : I never had wireless issues with this microwave.

  • +1

After 5 years, the Magnetron issue got it replaced with $80, stopped working again after 3 months, went to the repair centre, and fixed the PCB for another $80.

  • Had the model with the knob on the front. Great while it worked. Had it repaired under warranty then the inside rusted out.

  • +2

Mine dead after 1.5 year later, then I bought Panasonic inverter which 3x the price it still going strong 5yrs +

    • Is your Panasonic in an enclosed space? I’m looking for one to go in a cabinet with only front open

  • +1

I had one of these LG models, died after 18 months - never again will I purchase an LG appliance….I have owned a cheapo $99 Big W microwave for over a year now, its awesome.

  • +2

Lucky Goldstar microwaves are the ultimate in planned obsolescence

For inverter microwaves, get a Sharp or if you have more cash, a Panasonic

    • I have a LG grill solar dome microwave from 2008, is been unusually noisy since day one but it's still going.

    • My parent's LG microwave from like 1996 is still going strong…

  • +1

Good buys turned me down :(

    • Try again - are you Concierge Member?

  • -1

TGG's matched over the Online Chat including the 3 years Gold Service Option - so $144 for the Microwave.

    • +1

I tried online chat. Its saying offline

  • +1

Damn lol starting to get some remorse for buying this microwave… I mean the online reviews still seem to have a pretty high average. Is this ozbarg bias - seems maybe not…

    • +1

A $280 microwave that failed after only 18 months was disappointing for me - never again.

    • I've had 2 of these for years: no problem, except when the mother-in-law visits and runs it for excessive periods of time in a row… it over heats - thought it died the first time, but just needed a moment. Tolerable in short doses (the microwave too)

  • Well mines been fine for over 2 years now, but it does kill the wifi

    • You probably need a covid booster to boost 5Ghz band

  • after atleast 6 years, the microwave is still going strong. No complaints

  • +1

got one of these after a good 5 year with a Kmart $99 Microware, but it failed within 1year, contacted LG and LG's local repairer and now it is back to work, however, I had a quick look while the repairer put the cover back and quite a few spots are rusted under the cover.

    • yeah they do rust inside mine had a rattle so I opened up & ended up treating the rust & repainting

      • May I ask which paint did you use? Might worthy to paint mine as well but worry the nasty chemicals releasing from the paint while heating

        • mine was the outer metal shell but on the inside so it wouldn't be a problem contaminating food, I used a proper heat paint for BBQ's

  • +2

The magnetron on ours died within 12 months.

They would not replace, just repair, which took 10 weeks!

Not a very intuitive menu system as it only displays numbers, not text, so you need to refer to the printed menu inside the door all the time.

  • I bought this from TGG for ~$290 minus 2x $20 amex credit so $250; it's a good microwave if you ask me, it does have a weird chime and the chime reminds you several times if you don't open the door. Good price.

  • We had one and found that it didn't heat the food very well. You could chuck in a frozen veggie steam bag for 2.5mins like requested and it would still be half frozen at the end. Our old microwave would have it burning to the touch.

We ended up not using it anymore cause it just sucked.

    • Hmm ok someone here in OZB did some comparison with Panasonic and LG/Sharp. Turns out LG and Sharp were better in terms of spread. I wonder why so many have had bad exp with this model given the good rep it has from some reviews.
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/447041#comment-7107334

      • In my case I'm thinking maybe ours was just faulty from the start. Probably should have returned it. It was unpredictable as some things heated fine but some other stuff didn't

  • +3

So I dumpster dive for pc parts in electronics bins, judge me however you want. I see these all the time, weather that is due to sheer sales numbers or failure rates I dunno but I wouldn't buy one.

    • Cheers. Any other recommendations to avoid? I see a lot of HP inkjet printers too.

  • If you are one of the many whose LG microwave has died, it has a 10 year warranty on the magnetron, so probably worth getting replaced, and use it, sell it, or keep as a backup.

    • +1

LG won't cover labour. LG will pay for the costs of parts to repair the magnetron for a further EIGHT (8) YEARS. What a con!
      Fcukers!

      • So sounds like you get the genuine replacement part shipped, watch some youtube vids then fire up the soldering iron and away you go?

        • And then wait for the house to burn down Mr Wannabe Electrian borrowing uncle Con's sparky licence

    • +1

mine died on the weekend and i have 8 years left on the inverter/magnetron.

Parts only cover as per LG's warranty.

Labour component costs more than the parts, not only that.. if you are in Brisbane the repairer charges $60 inspection fee.. which is out of pocket to you and excluded from the warranty offered by LG.

So I'm up for $60 just to have their preferred repairer to look at the microwave and i dont get that back if i do go ahead with the repair under warranty from LG.

The LG Microwave is sleek looking and appealing, I'm struggling to find another microwave in black that looks sleek. :(

  • Buyer beware with P&S electronics. I bought a 2nds LG C6 tv (the last of the 3d TVs) from them years ago and it arrived in much worse condition than the pictures. Was advertised as having very slight burn in one of the corners. But I really wanted the 3d. I even got them to send more pictures and they filtered them to make the screen burn a lot less than what it actually was. It was pretty much the whole lower 3rd of the tv especially when visible on red. Unfortunately no returns.

  • I've always been with Panasonic until 2 years ago when I switched to the LG (it was about $100 cheaper than the equivalent Panasonic). The only issue is the well documented bluetooth issue, but no issues with wifi on 2.4ghz or 5ghz.

I use it in an enclosed space, so perhaps it will die in a few years compared to a Panasonic that seems to never die. If I get 5-6 years, I'll be happy.

Not upvoting this deal because don't believe this is a good deal for a factory second.

  • Mine lasted about 8 years. All of a sudden it stopped heating which usually means the Magnetron no longer works.

  • I bought this new a year ago for this price!

  • Don't buy refurb. Had endless issues with power. Had to power cycle hundreds of times. Ended up ditching it

  • +1

Just to let everyone know - initially only posted because I thought this was a new item. I price matched at the good guys. If you head in store I’d say you have a pretty good chance at getting this price, as the P&S description is dodgy as hell.

  • +1

Worst microwaves I have ever owned. We bought one new which we broke the front glass in when a glass was dropped on it shortly after purchase (the whole front panel is glass). We then got another one and after a few months found it would turn itself on randomly even with nothing in the microwave.

I have no idea why these are so highly recommended.

We are now back to a 10 year old Kmart job that is still chugging along.

  • Big W brand , going strong for 10yrs , still waiting for it to break so can buy a new one

  • Have owned one of these 25L LG microwaves about 5 yrs back, died just out of warranty. Have since owned 3 more versions of recent LG microwave models 2nd hand or refurb and all have had various issues, mostly magnetron failures (burning smell followed by failure to heat) and some with funny operation noises or ghost touch beeps when not in use. My partner likes the clean black aesthetic but never touching them again after our current one inevitably dies, not worth it.

  • I ended up grabbing the $89 Contempo microwave from BigW to replace a much more expensive brand model. It's honestly been just as good for a fraction of the price. Nothing fancy, but it heats food quickly and evenly and it has a decent look and build quality - what more do you need?

    https://www.bigw.com.au/product/contempo-medium-digital-micr…

  • +1

Thanks OP, price matched at GG for $179 via online chat

  • I've had this exact model for a year. Works well (touch wood).

It is by far the quietest microwave I've ever owned.

My biggest gripe is that to adjust the time for daylight savings you have to disconnect the power. Not an issue if you live in QLD, nor an issue if you have it bench mounted, but if you have it recessed under a benchtop it's a PITA.
