Any Bad Impact on Jumping Utilities Providers?

Hi all, given there are a lot of utilities providers offering credit upon sign up, it's pretty incentive to jump around providers. Curious to know if there is any impact/cost to jump around after using up those credits? Thanks!!

  • Bad impact in VIC, most of the sign up offers are prohibited now.

    • How? Still many energy providers are providing sign up offers in vic. Eg Simply energy

      • AGl have $100 good guys voucher offer, any other good provider bonuses at the moment?

I have found finding a cheap locked price for 12 months works out better than the signup bonus shuffle after you add it all up.

Inflation means a 12 month price lock is worth a LOT. Especially if you sign just before energy prices jump (usually jul1)

    • Ahhh that makes sense.
Our typical electricity bill is roughly $100 per month so those credit is roughly 2 months of free power

  • Depends on the provider.

Let's say you're with provider 1 with a welcome credit or ongoing credit, that gets used up and then you jump ship to provider 2 which offers X Y Z, then that finishes then you jump to provider 3 which offers X Y Z then that finishes, then provider 1 is offering X Y Z then you jump ship to them…

Going back to previous providers can happen but this could happen:
    - Reject you for the offer because you're a previous ex customer, this is when you need to be creative and put the account under someone else's name.
    - They decline you based on jumping ship too much based on applying in a short amount of time based on your credit checks

    • Thanks! Totally make sense. I guess I will treat them like NBN then, jumping every 6 months.

      • To me the only caution is the credit checks while some NBN providers do credit checks, for example Optus NBN does credit checks while Leaptel doesn't.

Always double make sure about credit checks.

I don't know from memory what is the length between credit checks to play it safe, I just remember a friend of a friend that worked for some credit company stating if you apply for things with a credit check within X amount of time, they can decline you. But the timeframe differs, so it's really a testing game when you apply for stuff.

(NSW) I've been rejected by Energy Australia and Simply Energy for changing providers too often.

    AVOID THEM!

    • Is that the reason they each provided to you?

      • I have Excellent credit score and spotless credit history so what else could it be

        • No idea but I doubt it is 'for changing providers too often'.
