Ride on Car Kids Toy Not Working

Have a kids ride on car I have had for years, last time used worked but I gave it a charge and no life nothing happens, it was a number of years ago since it was used.
Still looks like new and was going to sell it, is it possible the battery is no longer good is there a way to test it?
Ok I could sell it at a lower price but it might not be the battery but most likely is.
I believe it’s a 12v battery not 6v which some are

  • Can you get to the battery? Have a multimeter?

    • Don’t have a multimeter

        Username doesn't checkout then.

      • How much is this thing worth broken? And how much is it worth working?

      • Remember the part where you asked if there is a way to test it? This is one way. The other way involves your tongue and is slightly painful. :-P

      • Multimeter is a $5 tool. Short of sticking your tongue accoss the terminals, there is not much you can do without one.

Is the Check Engine Light on?

I would still buy it as long as the old run flat tyres still have good tread, there is a lip balm in the centre console and a gift voucher for the local brothel is included.

      • Kids these days. Probably has a boot full of empty juice boxes.

I warn you against buying it - you can’t put roof racks on it

FFS, that kayak's not going to get itself to the lake

Can uncle Ian have a gander, after he's fixed the Commodore's ignition switch? 6 pack of VB for having a look?

        Don't forget the durries!

  • Battery World will help you diagnose the battery. If it still doesn't run it will probably be the switch which a handy person can replace or bypass.

Most likely a NiCad battery which has died and cannot be recharged

    • The only ride on car I've looked at had an SLA battery. Very, very easy to replace.

IMO unlikely to be NiCad- anything with a decent enough capacity to power a toy car capable of carrying a kid is going to be far more expensive than SLA.

Good opportunity for an engine swap, 2JZ or LS3

      pffft, Barra 4.0T

      • Both of you have fun with the swap. It's a front wheel drive toy car.

  • Looks like the kids will be catching the bus instead.

  • Lead acid batteries will die if left on a shelf for a few years untouched, especially if stored discharged.

It is likely you have a dead battery, but test it to be sure. Multimeter or take it to battery world & they will test. If its a 12v a good car charger can also tell you if its fked.

All Battery stores and most workshops will do a Free Battery test.

    • Ok I might give them a go could be the charger plug but most likely the actual battery

    • Seriously… no sarcism…not needling, but factual advise.

Why was this one negged….. you coward?

      • I wouldn't sweat it. Wasn't me, but I've found myself accidentally negging a post here or there because of fat fingers.

Though seems to me it'd be easier to source a <$10 multimeter than to bring a kiddie ride on car to a battery shop. OP probably even knows people who have multimeters kicking around, they are not rare.

        • Fair enough, except a Multi Meter will not replace a Battery Load Tester. Of can only show Surface charge, so perhaps, they should take just the battery to a store. We test them …Load Test, for free. I know others do too.
