Free Fetch TV Mini 4K for Eligible Telstra TV Owners (Claim in My Telstra App) @ Telstra

1000

Jumped onto the My Telstra app and there was an offer for a free upgrade to Fetch TV as I had an exisiting Telstra TV. This is part of Telstra’s new acquisition of Fetch and presume they will be slowly replacing all Telstra TV’s.

  • Does this let you stream free to air tv?

    • Only if you hook up an aerial to the back.

    • +1

There are FTA apps available on Fetch. Some of them allow you to stream FTA TV via the internet.

    Nice find!

I have a Telstra TV from 10 years ago, no home internet with Telstra anymore, and was eligible to get it.

    • Exactly the same here… eligible so I took up the offer :)

      • +3

Noticed this few days ago in my Telstra TV app and ordered one.
I received the Fetch Mini TV today, Once setup completed. Telstra upgraded the TV Ultimate pack and Movie Pack until March 24.
        Happy Findings, Enjoy Everyone.

        • Did you have to add credit card details when ordering the $0 fetch mini replacement?

          • @foogle: yes, but they won't charge. You get 3 months TV and movie pack free.

            • @NPB: Thanks. I pulled the trigger and added my CC details. Saw a $1 verification transaction and order went through.

            • @NPB: When does the 3 month tv and movie pack start? When I activate fetch?

  • I have a Telstra TV but I don't have the message, must be for customers that purchased it on a plan?

    • I had an old Telstra tv that I got for free. Never had it on a plan and was eligible, not too sure on the criteria unfortunately.

  • +3

As a heads up, I’ve used these boxes before in the past and am testing the current one I received through this deal and these things are woefully underpowered. The UI is painful to use and laggy at the most of times. Worth it if it’s a freebie, but I personally wouldn’t spend a cent on this, especially when a fire stick can be had for much much less.

    • +6

You're probably referring to the Fetch TV Mini. This is the Fetch TV Mini 4K. The '4K' version is recently released and it a high spec'd machine. UI performance is nothing like the original version.

      • My setup experience says otherwise, I'll give it a few more days and see if it improves.

        • +2

Agree with @netuser415, I've had the 4k Mini for over 2yrs. It is not new.

  • Do we need some sort of subscription service to use it or do they start charging fees for it some time down the track?

    • +1

No, but you can buy movie channel packs and use paid streaming services. You can also use apps like Plex.

      • +3

Sounds good. Might as well if it’s free. Thanks OP.

        • There's also about 20 or so FAST free channels, such as Outdoor Channel, Haunt TV, Movie Sphere, GB News, several music channels etc.

No need to subscribe to any streaming service or even the Fetch bundles to get it

    • +3

you can subscribe to stuff and pay for movies to watch etc.
We already have a few of them not used so much now have smart TV and netflix/disney buttons on it
For a dumb TV can make it smart

  • How do I get this offer? We've got a roughly 10+ year old Roku-based Telstra TV that my step-daughter uses. Where do I get this Telstra TV app, is it on the device itself, or is it a phone app?

    • +1

My Telstra app available on the App Store. The offer can be found just under your services section.

    • +1

It’s on the App home page just under your services. There is a heading saying We’re shutting down Telstra TV in 2024

      • If it's an Android phone then it's in the Google Play app.

      • +4

I don't have that on my my My Telstra app, there are no references to Telstra TV on any of the app sections, and I have 3 Telstra TV's 😂

        • It's supposed to be in the services section.

      • +1

Not seeing this on my "My Telstra" account, but has been several years since I had an active service with them. Is there any talk of them somehow remotely shutting down the Telstra TVs or will they just stop providing updates ?

  • Got one thanks

  • You also get 3mths ultimate pack n movie box, according to Telstra chat

    • Telstra Chat (I’m a Gold customer) knew nothing about the offer - 3 different CSRs

      • +1

Not sure, I just asked how do I get two upgrades as have two telstra TV’s, then she mentioned the offer came with the 3mths free etc.. see when it’s activated I suppose

looks like you can just use the link again & order multiple times

    • Noticed this few days ago in my Telstra TV app and ordered one.

  • I wonder what happens when you have multiple units.

    • I too can also claim another box lol. They each have an activation code so id say maybe you only get issued with one code?

    • I have two TTV boxes and its allowed me to do two orders.
Looks like it would let me do it a third time too

    Telstra’s new acquisition of Fetch

You watch, the prices will go up soon.

Fetch have always been very reasonable and fair…I think I've had one rise of a dollar in two years.

  • I have two TTVs but no active Telstra service. Nothing for me in the app. That being said, I don't expect it considering I'm not an active paying customer.

  • I have four Telstra TVs. 2 TTV2 and 2 TTV3.

    All came from Telstra, direct.

The option to get the Fetch Mini is not in the Telstra TV app for me.

Suspect this is a staggered rollout.

I have multiple Telstra subs (2 phones, internet and Foxtel)

    • I found I needed to update the app, enable notifications, then it worked after a few days.

    • So in your case on the home page of the app.

Others said in the Services section.

Not in any section in My Telstra app.

      • I switched off the home broadband (off WiFi )and used Telstra 5G and the offer appeared.

        • Just tried. No luck.

  • +5

Just a warning for anyone switching over - the Fetch box can't access Binge, Kayo, or Foxtel Now like the Telstra TV could. You're gonna need another way of getting those services (whether it be a streaming stick or through an inbuilt smart tv interface).

Streamotion (Binge, Kayo, etc) is owned by Foxtel, they obviously don't want to share with their competitors.

    • Telstra do onsell Foxtel - I’m using it now and on the TTV.

If Fetch can’t do Foxtel I’ll sell the devices, if I am ever offered them :D

      • Software's still controlled by Fetch, it could make sense that they would develop an app for Telstra customers only. However, if they aren't able to provide the app to the hundreds of thousands of users outside of the Telstra bubble - would it be worth the development time? Who knows.

        • +1

Software is under Telstra’s control as they are the majority owner ;)

        • Telstra TV app or the My Telstra app ?

I have checked both but neither have the offer.

          • +1

            @MurrayL: Telstra TV

            • @NPB: Thanks. Do you remember what section of the Telstra TV app the offer appeared ?

              • +1

@MurrayL: I was browsing the app (IOS) and just appeared. I could not get any links / notice any thing later. I was even trying to post it few days ago, since i could not find link, i didn't.

I have received the box today, using it and looks okay. 3 months free TV and Movie packs included.

      • Telstra is the tel in fox tel
        Telstra owns 35% of foxtel

    • geee thats rubbish, is the UFC fight pass app available?

      • No app, but you can directly subscribe to fights in the guide - billing is done over Fetch. I'm pretty sure Fetch is the UFC's major streaming partner.

        • +2

damn what is this crap box lol, have a fight pass subscription, looks like ill stick to the tv3

    • According to various comments on the fetch facebook page they maybe rolling out binge and kayo soon.

      • They have being saying that for over a year now….or longer! Seeing is believing :-)

  • +2

    Telstra are useless LOL.

The TBox was a good unit and they knobbled it when they moved to Roku devices (a step down in function).

They are going to knobble the Roku units and moving to a weaker device in the Fetch.

    What a joke.

    What’s the URL?

    • +18

Uniform Resource Locator, but that’s not important right now.

  • +5

Here we go. More e-waste when people cancel their account and the provider "lets" you dispose of it yourself, rather than collecting and reusing/recycling them.

    • +1

Exactly. Telco/RSP Fetch boxes only work while you have the Telco/RSP account. Once you leave the boxes become landfill. Also, you can't mix and match Telco/RSP boxes with retail boxes. Terrible idea.

      • My kids are using TTV without Telstra

        • +2

I was referring to Fetch boxes.

          • @iguana: They are free :)

However, I know one family member using a Telstra supplied Fetch unit without Telstra (holiday home)

            • +1

@MurrayL: You can use a Fetch box on any network (regardless of which RSP originally supplied it).

              • @iguana: Doesn’t match with your original comment in that case ?

                • +1

@MurrayL: I was clear in my original comment, but I'll clarify again.
If you get a Fetch box through Optus, iiNet, Dodo, Telstra etc. it will work while you have an account with that company.
While you have that account with the telco, you can also use that box on any network.
When you decide to cancel your Optus, iiNet, Dodo, Telstra account (maybe you decide to switch internet companies) then the Fetch box will stop working.

                  • @iguana: As I said we have a family member who got a Fetch Mini from Telstra but they are no longer with Telstra and it works fine.

                    • @MurrayL: Ok. Telstra must behave differently. They've recently starting selling Fetch boxes so they must be doing thing differently to the other companies. Good to see.

                      • @iguana: Well they have a majority ownership in Fetch.

Obviously Telstra TV (the app, not the box) will not necessarily work without a Telstra account.

                      • @iguana: Will Fetch work with other internet providers?

Absolutely! You can purchase and use Fetch services without being a Telstra internet customer. Once Fetch is purchased via Telstra, it will always be a Telstra Fetch box, and is not transferrable to another ISP.

                        • @howcan: Recently watched a number of shows on a Telstra Fetch on a TPG account. No active Telstra account.

What you read isn’t always true.

Also, we have had free multi room and free movies and sport for 8 months on Telstra.

                        • +2

@howcan: Is it just me. Or does that comment not make sense lol?

                          • @Jake17: Pretty sure it's saying that while you don't need to be a Telstra account holder to buy the box and use it, it's always going to be a Telstra box, so you can't transfer the box to another provider so it can be linked with boxes from from that other RSP e.g multiroom

  • +1

Have been using Telstra TV for years and with Telstra over a decade, I can't see this offer on website or Android app :(

    • I could not see in the Telstra account but could see in the testra app (IOS).

  • I got telstra tv +5 years ago when I was with them , I use it on a projector so will get the fetch box seeing it’s free.

  • I tried to get this, system didn't accept my id info, weird.
I logged into chat and the the guy tells me I have to create a new user id because I can no longer use my telstra email as a user id, i have to create a new one with different email address.
    News to me.

    • Same here! Won't accept my ID info … says I have 1 attempt left. I have a different e-mail address linked to my account already, as the "bigpond" e-mail is no longer valid. So I am guessing that creating a new ID won't work for you either.

      • I don't know why I have to create a new ID replacing one i've been using without issue for over 20 years!

        • Ok, so this was my fault. Turns out I put a block on my licence being checked. So that's why it fails to identify me. Turned off the block through the Dept. Of Transport site and all went through.

          • @karnage1020: Having same issue, telstra chat and call centre useless, told me to go to a store. How do you remove the block on license being checked ? I see no option in service NSW app ?

            • @Mercina: No idea for NSW. I'm in WA and on the DoT app there is a section for Drivers Licence and then an option for Protect you Identity.

      • So went into a Telstra store today and they also had same issue with ID. Looks like what happened is I have a boost mobile and boost created an new ID for me which uses same license details as Telstra ID so said that's why it was erroring out, because my license is associated with 2 different Telstra IDs even though one is "boost". Anyway they gave me the free box in store with the 3 months free trial.

  • Can you repurpose these boxes to run anything else? Linux?

    • +1

Nope, quite locked down. There's been some attempts to get access over on 'the other forum' (whirlpool). The entire ui and system is basically just a browser.

  • Is this targeted? No luck for me in my Telstra app or Telstratv app on iPhone, my Roku Telstra tv was part of home internet package years ago, tried over wifi and Telstra mobile network, not too fussed, my fetch mighty quite laggy since the last major update but is getting on, curious about mini 4K so will watch & see if anyone in my shoes finds a way

    • Yeah, likewise. I have x4 Telstra Roku devices still in their boxes unused. I hooked one up to see if anything was on offer. Nothing shows up on account or devices.

  • Are these locked to Telstra, if you already have a fetch without Telstra can you link it to this one?

    • +1

Fetch devices purchased from other retailers are not able to be linked to your Telstra Fetch device for Multiroom and cannot be added to your Telstra account or household. FAQ

      • Thanks. Advice has been assimilated.

  • Did you have to put in your credit card/bank account details? It says $0 but still wants these details.. hmm why? 🤷‍♂️

  • Only asking for my grandparents, does the Fetch TV have Sky News?

    • It looks like it may not. It's not listed and it states that Kayo, Flash and Binge and Foxtel Now aren't available"yet".

  • Nothing for me, not impressed, have 3 Telstra tvs and a active connection
