Domain Name Renewals from TRY ₺75-₺195 (~A$4-$10) for Existing Google Domains Customers @ Google Domains

200

Follows on from this original deal while you can't register new domain names at Google Domains and take advantage of this offer any more you can renew domain name still and take advantage of the pricing errors in Turkish lira into the migration to Squarespace is complete and they stop accepting renewals should be sometime in first quarter of 2024 per latest estimates.

I've put together a spreadsheet with some of the extensions I was tracking back in July it's available here

The standard three I'll post below.

Conversion Taken on 06 March 2024

.com
Google: ₺195 TRY $9.43 AUD
Mastercard: ₺195 TRY = $9.59 AUD or 3% = $9.88 AUD
Visa: ₺195 TRY = $9.54 AUD or 3% = $9.83 AUD

.net and .org
Google: ₺75 TRY $3.63 AUD
Mastercard: ₺75 TRY = $3.69 AUD or 3% = $3.80 AUD
Visa: ₺75 TRY = $3.67 AUD or 3% = $3.78 AUD

gTLD's are governed by ICANN policies, So the domain name on renewal will need to stay with Google Domains/Squarespace for 60 days after the last renewal has been applied, but can be transferred out immediately afterwards to another registrar for their transfer fee which will add another additional your registration gTLD's can have up to a maximum of 10 years of registration.

So if your plan is to get out of Google Domain/Squarespace once you've taken advantage of this after the 60 days you may want to not go above 9 or 7 years when applying your renewals. You may be able to combine this with the Wordpress.com transfer offer in 60 days if it's still available.

Steps broken down below. No VPM required.

Google Payment Profile for Turkish lira.

Add a Google payment profile for Turkey if you don't have one yet. If needed, use a fake address generator to obtain a random Turkey address for the payment profile. You can create a new payment profile by following these steps: go to https://pay.google.com/gp/w/u/0/home/settings and clicking the pen icon next to "Country/Region" and a link to create a new profile should pop up. You can then add details for the Turkish profile.

You should have no issues using an Australian payment card for this purpose. I've used both Up and Macquarie successfully.

Changing currency at Google Domains

From the side bar in the Google domains dashboard change your currency from A$ to TRY you may need to pop this menu out by using the hamburger menu three lines at the top. You'll see the Australian flag. Click there to apply the change to Turkish lira.

Renewing Domains at Google

Individually: Click on the domain name you want to renew in the list of my domains which will take you to domain overview for the domain you've chosen on the left sidebar choose Registration settings scroll down to Auto-renew is on and click the blue section labelled add years complete the checkout process to apply multiple years of registration or just simply one.

Bulk: In my domains, use the checkboxes down the left-hand side next to each domain to select any domains you want to renew once you've completed selecting them at the top of the page choose Renew domain and from the drop-down choose add years complete the checkout process to apply multiple years of registration or just simply one.

The bulk renew tool is quite basic, so it will not allow you to exceed a 10 year maximum on any domain name, even if the others are in the list eligible for more years than shown.

This deserves an award. Thanks, OP.

  • Newbie to this here; doesn't the contractual arrangement change when everything moves to squarespace?
I.e. the cheap price gets repealed?

Yes, but that will only apply to renewals and purchases made in the future once that migration has been completed.

Domains don't work that way when you apply a renewal to a domain name it gets applied at that time up to a maximum of 10 years. Any time you have on a domain name when you transfer it / move it somewhere else also comes with you.

Yes, it is as far as I'm aware as they have not migrated users yet to the new Squarespace platform but I would hurry up because there are signs that they nearly ready to do so.

Edit: Yep, have confirmed payment flow is still accepting payments.
