Moving Single Large Items Like Furniture Long Distance and Interstate?

Is there no way to do this affordably?

For a while there was some start up website that I can't remember the name of, but I don't think it exists anymore?

Are you moving intestate? I think most people rent a truck. You could looking backhauling too.

I'm guessing there's some piece of furniture you want shipped from interstate because it's a good deal or hard to get where you are.

Removalists are the obvious first option, if they use the term Furniture Freighter they may be more amenable to individual items. If the origin and destination are both in/near large cities there are probably trucks making the journey anyway, and you can contact companies in both about backloading. Courier services and freight forwarders are other avenues for this.

Affordability: Pandemic drove up a lot of prices for shipping/logistics. Some have come back down, but others are stubbornly high. Petrol prices are pretty high now as well.

    Where there's a will, there's a way…

Shipping is generally sold by volume or weight or a combination of both. Bigger and heavier stuff costs more. Shipping companies like stuff that’s easier to los and unload - ie pallets.

Furniture is not shipping friendly. It’s bulky, weird shapes and generally difficult to handle. If it’s difficult it’ll cost more to make up for the hassle.

Put an ad on marketplace and sell the item. Buy a similar item at your destination.

As with most things, depends how cheaply you want to do it.

When I was a broke-ass uni student moving interstate, I borrowed a mate's Toyota Hiace, loaded it up, drove it from MEL -> SYD, and had someone from a Facebook group who was moving in the other direction, so handed over the Hiace to her to drive it back down to MEL. Gave my mate $200 for his troubles, split 50% with the person going the opposite direction.

If you want someone to come and do it for you with minimal intervention from you, then it'll cost you.

Be very very careful with removalists, I have bad experiences with damage TV stands, late arrival, over charge claiming its a larger vehicle.
