  • Why don't you contact the bank and ask them ?

    • You are very active tonight jv. You should become a mod!

        Prefer to be a sharpie

    • Ringing Citibank is seldom a meaningful experience.

  • lol

  • I guess you have read this from whirlpool….

Thailand: Most ATMs charge substantial fees for foreign cards (eg. ~180-250 Baht or $6-10). Maybank appears not to. Aeon ATMs used to be free but are no longer. Bank of China ATMs may be fee free (only works with MasterCard).
Citibank ATMs are fee free, but are only available in 3 locations in Bangkok (see https://www.citibank.co.th/en/static/Location.htm), not elsewhere in the country. Note that the Interchange 21 branch (opposite Terminal 21 shopping mall) has two sets of ATMs, one set is inside the branch and is only accessible during banking hours, another set is near the entrance and can be accessed 24/7. This branch is easy to walk to from both the Asok BTS station and the Sukhumvit MRT station.
Citibank Thailand was acquired by Singapore’s United Overseas Bank in 2022 and the branding has been updated. Withdrawals using the Citibank Plus card are still free. Look out for “UOB” branded ATMs and branches rather than “Citibank”.
UOB ATM in street (Sukhumvit Rd) charges 220 Baht. ATM located Interchange 21 (June 23) and Central World (Aug 23) branches have no fee. Central Park has both the new UOB and old Citibank (UOB) ATMs, make sure to find old one for fee free.
Most banks and currency exchange windows displaying the VISA logo will do over-the-counter withdraw (VISA cash advance) fee free, as long as you present your passport and withdraw enough (eg. 5000 baht). Check the receipt for any fees before signing!

    • I think as per the above it is outdated. Am in Bangkok and looks like have been rebranded to UOB and as per OP it is NOT fee fee - charges 220 baht which is nearly A$10

      • Have you got experience using wise or NAB Visa debit (Citi replacement)?
I will go to thailand in a few weeks and havent figured out yet where or if i should exchange aud to baht.

        • I have not got experience using it but assume it is likely to be the same. I have put recommendations in the post at the bottom. There are Happy Rich and Super Rich exchanges alternatives around airports etc. I stepped off plane without any Baht and only AUD. Note, that if you are looking to this, these exchanges are usually in harder to reach locations (depending on airport) as they give good rates, etc.

  • Thanks Im heading there soon as well

  • Yes I can from when I was there in August. No fees were charged on the Citibank ATMs in Central World.

However both Citibank Thailand and Citibank Australia had been sold to other companies. So I feel it was only am matter of time before this deal ended.

    • +1

Can confirm that deal has ended after trying various Citi ATMs a couple of days ago. UOB have now changed all the Citi ATMs.

      • Dang! Duckie2hh then has the best solution: physically carry the equivalent AUD and do an exchange at one of the competitive money changers. Note that not all money changers will be competitive and pretty sure you'll need to take your passport.

  • TBH, best rate and low cost option would be to physically change money at the Super Rich Thailand. They are located in CBD in malls. Make sure you go to the green ones as they offer better rates than the orange ones. No fees, and very competitive exchange rate. Been there plenty of times and can vouch for the quality.

    • The queues are horrendous though.

    • This and Happy Rich (which have airport locations if needed) is best now as posted in other comments given Citi card is now charged or Aeon ATMs (for the moment until phased out) which charge 150 baht rather than usual 220+baht.

Coincidentally, met up with an old workmate last night in Bangkok who actually works at Super Rich Thailand Green (he emphasised this). We had a good chat on how it works and how it would be going really well etc. He talked through the origins and I said it was surprising how they could have the same name etc. Apparently it even went to court as there are heaps of other pop-ups as well with the same name and it was ruled that it is basically a generic name now lol.

  • Recently used the ex-Citibank ATMs inside the UOB (ex-Citi) Interchange 21 branch, charged no fees. There are also similar ex-Citibank ATMs (with remnants of Citi branding, though the top of the atm says UOB) on street level at the entrance of Interchange 21, as well as one of the branches of UOB on Level 4 of CentralWorld (the ATMs to use here also have remnants of Citi branding on them still, it is not the UOB Premier branch on Level 4 but the other one closer to the Japanese food court and stores with some photo booths close by).

    • Hi - thanks for this - check it out but as per below unfortunately these machines do not work anymore as of Jan-24 (found out the hard way).

  • Thanks for this. Unfortunately both Central World ones do not work anymore (even re-branded Citi one). Says would charge 220bht. Will check out the Interchange 21 now.

    • Follow on comment. Checked the Interchange 21 ATMs. They have been re-branded to UOB. Also noticed the sign saying from the [6] January 2024 that Citi ATMS would be re-branded to UOB. It kind of sucks. Westpac Worldwide Wallet also does not seem to have a Thai affiliate.

For the moment best options are as follows:
      1. Bring AUD cash and exchange at a Happy Rich exchange. Look up Youtube for locations. I went to the one at Don Mueang and got a pretty good rate.
      2. Find an Aeon ATM and get charged 150 baht. It looks like they are phasing out these ATMs later in the year though.

  • UOB (ex-Citi) Interchange 21 branch - just withdrew 20,000 baht - now a 220 baht fee.
Also on another level, there is some sort of Citibank presence but no ATM's and they told me to go to UOB

    • Yep as per above, there is a sign next to it saying they changed all Citi ATMs in January. Have to use the Superrich if you have AUD cash or maybe find an Aeon ATM if you want a 150 baht fee (although they are going to phase out Aeon ATMs apparently).

  • Anyone have any experience with ubank or macquarie where they give free atm withdrawal and no international fees over in Thailand?

Doing my research as travelling there end of the year.

  • There are no free ATM withdrawals that I could find - been here 3 months.
Been using Macquarie and there are no fees from them.
Using XE.com as a guide I get around the rates on there.
