Officeworks Cannot Match Boost Mobile Sim Pack Because Expiry Date Is Different

Boost $230 SIM 12months Expiry 170GB

The guy first tried to say they do not have a physical address - found out they do have one.
Then tried to say its not Australian stock - boost mobile grey import? Sure…
Then said OW have part number listed whereas the ad don't, when asked to show where the part number is on the item - "oh some of them just come with one, but its not on the item, it just needs to be listed"
Finally, declined because OW have an expiry date and online ad does not list - so they're not identical, the expiry date cannot be either shorter or longer - have to be the same expiry date for them to match.

  • Officeworks stock expires Mar 2025 (Elizabeth Street Store, Melbourne)
  • Online store (Lucy Mobile) ad - expiry not stated.

With this reasoning…they can decline everything because details aren't listed

The guy won't say they cannot price match but wasted twenty minutes of my time going around in circles with "ahh, you see", "i don't think the store will", and when i ask if he could actually try, "i know the store wouldn't do it before"….

This was frustrating…do better

Update: Called, waited 20min - price beat and paid in 10min…what a waste of time with the sales in a physical store..

    goto a different store

    • I'll do that, just posting out of frustration because if he had proper training, told me he cannot do it whatsoever and reasoning as per policy, i'd move on in 5 secs… idk if he was trying to play with policy wording etc, but what do they gain from wasting time….

what training do they get mr Officeworks training expert?
why didn't you refer to parts of their training when you interacted with the staff member?

        • don't know why you are getting aggressive, won't you think OW employees should get at least a read of their official webpage?

          https://www.officeworks.com.au/information/policies/price-be…

if they decide not to honour it, then just be upfront.

            @sakanasama:

Identical products and services includes that they must have the same conditions of purchase

declined because OW have an expiry date and online ad does not list - so they're not identical

            seems fair to me

@Wiadro: just called and price beat done in 10min, thanks for the help

            • +2

@Wiadro: That excuse can pretty much be applied to anything that has an expiry date

Not that officeworks sells fresh eggs but to use it as an illustration - is a carton of eggs with a use by date of 28/12 really a different product to another carton with a use by date 29/12?

      Expiry date is irrelevant.
      The product is identical.
      Escalate your complaint to management.

Alternatively stop wasting your time and everyone else's time and just buy the item at the online store.
      Much easier solution - seriously

Does your rental flat have a dishwasher?

Officeworks price match policy based on the person in charge. Try price match over the phone or different store.

    • Yes i might try calling, just not comfortable giving card details over the phone lol

      • where did u call out of curiousity

    • Thank you, calling was easy apart from the 20min wait, cheers!

    • +2

Such a huge drama for a price match.
      Its not worth it

Why not just buy the item at the online store where its cheaper?

        1. This post revolves around the absurdity of the reasons OW use
        2. I hope to receive the sim before my current plan expires
        3. I called the next day, price beat done, got sim in 30min (rather than waiting for auspost letter)

Hope this helps you see why its worth it to me.

This issue is not limited to OW.
Came across this same problem with Chemist Warehouse.

And then taking my damaged "Bag for Good" back to Woolies for a replacement today

Its usually power hungry staff wanting to push thier weight around.
Just find someone else in the store who understands the issue - usually a manager

    order online from Boost?

    • Boot have no discount running for this sim

  • +12

So why not just buy from the mob with the better price?

Yes, yes, would want to save 5%, but how much time have you already invested in your pursuit of $11.50??

    • +2

Valid point, however its mainly because i want to get it soon before my current sim plan expires, get the 10gb data bonus (before 27Dec), and considering the Christmas logistics if it was to come in post, plus 5.5 extra for post with tracking…if it can get it locally for the same if not better price…

      • +2

Yeah, sure, but once you've been knocked back and you've already wasted at least 20 minutes (not to mention time taken getting to and from the store) … and you want to get bonus data, don't want to be caught short over Christmas, etc., etc. … at what point do you cut your losses?

Find another person instore. That guy is clearly not helping you out.

Depends if you gett a Jobsworth or not. Sometimes they want to charge postage when the pricebeat store is 2min walk up the road (East Ryde OW vs Scorptec).
Other times you can get pricebeat on something 1hr+ drive away without paying the postage add on (Pricebeat at OW Dee Why vs MWave Auburnon).

The first line of the PB Document reads "Depending on the associate you're dealing with, we guarantee a jobsworth will make your life difficult, or an apathetic one will just give you the discount".

Officeworks Cannot Match Boost Mobile Sim Pack Because Expiry Date Is Different

    🤣🤣🤣

Tell them to check if the barcode on the product is the same

The price on the competing website needs to show the product code…

I've successfully price matched items with different packaging, but product code was the same… ie. OW price scanner cannot tell them apart… Therefore same product, regardless of expiry dates.

    • +3

thanks, the guy was just being difficult, i asked him if he can just give it a try, he said "oh so do you want to speak to my manager?"…i believe the barcode was the same, but he insisted on the product ID and expiry date…anyways i called and price beat done :)

      • asked him if he can just give it a try, he said "oh so do you want to speak to my manager?"

Probably trying to Karen-bait you for cringe content. Glad to hear calling up worked.
Maybe leave a google review to save the next person from going through this.

I've never had issues pricematching luckymobile (i assume you refer to that rather than lucy). Do it via phone, and if you're really worried - use the single use generated cards to pay for it

    • Thank you, phone worked a charm - just had to wait 20 mintes to get connected :)

Never heard that one before. Next up, price match declined due to different fingerprints on the surface of the packaging. Not identical.
Sounds like a power hungry manager is influencing that staff at that store, or even the store manager on some kind of trip. The directions from HQ are to be quite permissive, and if its under a certain threshold the employees don't even need to verify the competitor's price. Unless things have changed recently. I'm 99% sure if you just go to another store with less wanky staff you'll be fine.

  • I overheard one of these PB discussions with a customer on a phone in OW recently while waiting for assistance from the electronics guy, he seemed to think it was important that the customer really understood every technical detail of the PB. He wouldn’t say no and just kept explaining. It took forever and was somewhat annoying because of the delay for other customers. I also thought the PB customer could have just hung up.

  • They are just on a power trip. I've had issues with people at the physical stores before. Best is to just call.

  • After trying to get price beats with Officeworks on various products over the years, earlier this year I decided its no longer worth it. Just honour the source and go with the place you want them to beat as it is not worth the hassle. Each time I would go into Officeworks and ask for a price beat, the response was usually "The manager has just gone on her break, you'll have to hang around and wait till they come back"…. 45 mins later after wandering around the store aimlessly, the manager appears only to state "We don't price beat sims". If I ask them to point it out in the T&C's they will just think up another excuse.

One time I wanted to price beat a powerboard. The competitor had a policy that if you lost your receipt and required a re-print, they would charge $15. Officeworks manager told me that they didn't have this policy so the terms were not identical. I just told her that the product is identical, the product number was identical and I wasn't planning on losing my receipt anyway. It just isn't worth the hassle so I avoid them now.
