My First PC Build for around $3000 - $3300

Hey everyone, I've decided to build my own gaming PC. I've looked through countless of pre-built pcs and decided that building my own would be cheaper and in all reality a lot more rewarding in a sense.

I wanted to go for an almost all white build with the exception of the power supply which will be barely visible (However if you have any suggestion for a PSU please let me know as I went with what I thought would be reliable). This is my first time building a PC so I was wondering if these parts worked well with each other. If there was a better suggestion for something, please let me know. I've bought the CPU already so I'm not able to swap that out unfortunately.

The parts are as follows:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken 360 RGB 78.02 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
Memory: TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL38 Memory
Storage: TEAMGROUP T-Force Cardea A440 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card: GALAX EX Gamer 1-Click OC V2 GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12 GB Video Card
Case: NZXT H9 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Asus TUF Gaming 850G 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply

Total: $3248.00

decided that building my own would be cheaper

    Total: $3248.00

    It really isn't these days.

You should have jumped on either this deal or this deal (second build option) during the Black Friday sales; both of them are higher-spec than your build and cheaper.

If going white - NZXT N7 for MB would be my goto
And swap RAM for some 6000 CL30 -
Can get them in T-force as well
      https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/WFVmP6/teamgroup-t-force…
or if you can find any
      G.Skill Ripjaws S5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory - White with no LEDS etc.
Also check how many Fans you want - from memory H9 only has a few fans as shipped.

      • I saw the motherboard but I personally didn't like how it looked so I decided to go with the Asus board. I thought the asus board did look good and had good spec but if there was any other motherboard you could suggest, I'd be happy to have a look. also with the ram sticks, what was the reason for the switch. Are they faster? They're a bit over my budget but if there a good reason I'm happy to do the swap. I also would like an rgb ram stick as I'd love to do some type of white aesthetic lighting.

Re:Ram - yes CL30 is the sweet spot - will be talking very small difference however, but if you have the chance now to get it as best you can within budget, then it is one less thing always in the back of your head ). The Linked CL30 T-force in LED then would be bang on for you.

Used to really like Asus stuff, but been a bit of history with Asus and AM chipsets and some dodgy warranty and cover ups - Gamer nexus has some good info if want to go down that rabbit hole - and as said long time Asus consumer here.

As for options, maybe - again due to white: For MB the -Aero 650 G and for GPU team it with the 4070 Ti Aero, might be pushing budget though.

          • @Sal in SA: Awesome. I went ahead and changed the MB and the ram. I was wondering if there was any psu that you would be able to suggest to me. Doesn't matter about colour, just a quiet and efficient power supply that is gonna last. I like the rgb on the gbu and I thought I'd go with the galax as its cheap and heard that its good. I think the 4070ti Aero might be too much for my budget.

            • @NAHBROGG: TBH not used Asus PSU - but have used Corsair and Evga and Seasonic etc - and for bang for $ would look around the Corsair RM850e to RM1000e depending on budget - and again given white would also go with the white sleeved cable kit or individual cables if need to save a bit of $.

Could save a bit by going air cooling over AIO - thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 White 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler is one of the best air coolers for AMD 7 series and is all white as well. Have run a both AIO and Air and really Air will cool just as good these days for a lot less and also no need to have water tubes showing.

Good ref on air cooling AMD -

              and
              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-wxHtELX5s

              • @Sal in SA: Yeah ill change my psu to the corsair then as I've heard a lot of good review of them and ill buy individual cables too. Thank you. Oh and tbh with AIO, I really like how they look. I'm trying to build that not only looks good (In my opinion) and is really good overall. Also with the gpu, I've heard galax is pretty good. Have you heard of them or tried them before?

    • Yeah I saw those but I wanted an aesthetically looking build so I opted to build my own instead. I'm able to buy parts individually so I thought it'd be a better option.

  • As of right now, without any changes. Would the system itself be able to work. I've put the parts through pc part picker and there wasn't any issue however I don't want to buy them and something not end up being compatible or not able to fit.

Just here to say I'm so jealous of you right now. I have two kids and rarely get time or money to do new PC builds. In fact, the last from scratch PC I built was from hand me down parts.

Email budget pc says Chris from Lexar send you there.
I will talk to them to see if they can do better price on TEAM or get you a better PSU/ better brand on GPU
no promises, but give them a call, if they not helping, come back here and reply me.
I think with this build if I can help you save 20 - 50 bucks that's still something.

    • Thank you heaps. I'll contact them and say that you sent me there

  • Merged from My First PC Build Went Way over Budget

I was trying to build my own PC and went online and did a few searches around to see which parts would be good and would also look aesthetically nice. I went with the following specs. The GPU is incorrect as I'm waiting for the 4070ti super to release.

    The specs are the following:
    CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken Elite 360 RGB 78.02 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX B650-A GAMING WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard
    Memory: TEAMGROUP T-Force Delta RGB 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory
Storage: TEAMGROUP T-Force Cardea A440 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Video Card: GALAX EX Gamer 1-Click OC V2 GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12 GB Video Card
Case: NZXT H9 Flow ATX Mid Tower Case
Power Supply: Corsair RM850x (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply
Case Fan: Lian Li Uni Fan SL-Infinity 61.3 CFM 120 mm Fan
Case Fan: Lian Li Uni Fan SL-Infinity 61.3 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack
Case Fan: Lian Li UNI FAN SL-INF Reverse Blade 63.6 CFM 120 mm Fan (6 fans)
    Monitor: AOC C32G2ZE/BK 31.5" 1920 x 1080 240 Hz Curved Monitor
Case Fan Cable: Lian Li ARGB Device Cable Kits for UNI Fan
    Total: $4239.60

Is anyone able to critique this PC Build and suggest any improvements. I have bought all the parts already, however, I'm willing to return the product which is covered with a change of mind return if unopened.

Why would you pair a 4070ti with a 1080p monitor?

    • +5

I was gonna say… Over $4k to play at 1080!? $4k for 4K sounds way more catchy 😁

    • 4k 60hz IPS is better than 1080p 240hz.

      • +2

Depends on use case. I would split the difference,1440p at 144Hz for the best of both worlds

      • Very different experiences. If you're a competitive FPS player, then 1080p 240 Hz is definitely the way to go. But then and again, I wouldn't go with a 31.5" monitor if I was a competitive FPS player, so…

        • I'm personally going for a competitive route, which is explained by the 240hz. I'm not a big fan of better looking games. Just if they can withstand sufficient fps and temperature, I'll be happy. The explanation to the 31.5" is that I like larger monitors, I don't care if it gives me a slight disadvantage compared to other monitors. I don't like overly large monitor and I don't like small monitors either. I know the curved 31.5" is in the larger range but I like it. The critiques with the Lian Li is exactly what I thought would be the outcome. I've watched countless of videos in youtube and the only fans I've come to like are the Lian Li fans. I know the price was stupidly expensive, however, I was planning on adding them in the future so I went why not and just bought them. I know I asked to be critiqued however those are my rebuttal. Its kinda stupid but I like it. I worded the post wrong. I was wondering If the parts were compatible with each other and If there was better alternative to those specific parts for similar price ranges. I'm fine with going over my original budget, but I also don't want to go all out.

Those Lian-Li fans are really not necessary. Unless you like the RGB bling?

      Lian Li SL120 = $155 each
      UNI FAN SL-INF Reverse Blade $49 each (x 6)
      Lian-Li Cable kit $23

I think you spent a whopping $473 just on fans. Consider replacing them with Arctic Cooling P12 PWM PST fans. They only cost $65 for a 3-Pack with ARGB lighting.

You only need 3 case fans to have sufficient airflow — don't forget your AIO cooler counts as either exhaust or intake…

360mm AIO's are pretty pricey, and the CPU that you have doesn't run that hot — you can get away with a cheaper cooler, even a 240mm or 280 Arctic Cooling Liquid Freezer II would be more than enough. My Ryzen 9 5900x is cooled with one of those 240mm rads.

      NZXT Kraken 360 RGB $339
Can be probably be replaced with Noctua NH-D15S ($147.82, Boxing Day Deal)

1080p monitor — kind of a waste for a RTX 4070 / Super. At the very least go with 1440p or ultrawide WQHD.

      • +1

Not to mention the case already comes with 4 fans, adding the 3 from the cooler they're about to wind up with 17 fans

        • Great idea in theory but is a waste of time in most cases (source: I have 10 fans, 7 of which are unplugged)

      • I have been out of PC building for a very, very long time. But am I reading this right, there are… fans, just fans… that cost $50 -150… EACH?!

        Lian Li SL120 = $155 each
        UNI FAN SL-INF Reverse Blade $49 each (x 6)
        Lian-Li Cable kit $23

Last time I did anything like this, it was just go down to the local computer place and pick up Noctuas for ~USD15-20 each.

Like the rest have said, get a way better screen, if you are spending 4k on the pc, i would be spending a good 1k-1.5k on the screen itself.

    • +3

I have bought all the parts already

So what exactly is the issue now?

        Buyer's remorse
