Dropbox is giving free 3gb of cloud storage to students and teachers if they verify their school/uni email. Free storage last for 2 years. If you recruit more people, you'll earn points to get more storage maxing out at 25GB.

I know for certain UNSW zmail (email) works not too sure about other uni but I'm sure it'll be fine.

        I guess they managed to figure out how dropbox is able to notice you're signing into the same computer with a different account.
        $5 for 18GB is cheaper than using google adwords (this is how I maxed my referrals, but it was thanks to lovely OzB member who gave me adwords coupons that I was able to do this for free, took a while though, 4 days)

          creating multiple dropbox accounts isn't too hard actually. didn't take me long to work out a way to do it last time I tried.

          Creating multiple DB accounts isn't too hard at all. I have around 10 DB secondaries.
          Infact, using the camera upload trick, doing all the bonuses, I can create a new secondary account and get the space to 5.88GB in under 10minutes per new account.
          Just that using them to qualify for the "referral" bonus doesn't work if you have it on the same computer (sign out old account, sign in new account).
          It's not IP based, but there must be some registry file left after uninstalling dropbox, because you can't spam referral bonus on one computer. You can create multiple VMs, it'll register as different computers and do it.. but that takes quite a while.
          The other possible method is to create separate user accounts on the same computer.. I'm not sure whether dropbox would register that as a different person and give you the referral bonus. I haven't tried making multiple computer accounts to install dropbox over and over yet.

          I believe they do it on MAC addresses. Using terminal on macs it's very easy to spoof the MAC address to make dropbox think they're different computers that the accounts are being registered from, and therefor get the referrals.

    For those who aren't at uni and have a UNSW friend.. ask them to give you their zmail or their alias email.
    I'm pretty sure you can get 4 DB accounts verified per UNSW zmail account, as it reads differently to the dropbox server (as different emails)

    the namehere depends on the alias your friend has. Get them to forward the email they receive to you once you have registered under that zmail :D

    I've got one of those free maricopa.edu addresses and unfortunately those don't work.

    Its a shame but still a good deal for those that can get it.

        used to be uq.edu.au or student.uq.edu.au now it could be uqconnect.edu.au if you have graduated.

          both my uqconnect and student emails worked. Linked my uqconnect to my current account to join then managed to use the @student.uq.edu.au as a referral account as dropbox thinks they're different.

    Hi, to max it the ref, simple.
    1. Install VM Player.
    2. create a disc image (e.g. Windows 7)
    3. install the restore program into VM Image (e.g. Time Freeze 2)
    4. register a dropbox user under your ref link.
    5. install the dropbox into the VM player and login with (4)
    6. shutdown the VM Player.
    7. Open VM Player again BUT go to hardware setting -> Network -> Advanced -> Generate new MAC
    8. Save the setting, run VM Player.
    9. Repeat (4-8)

    NOTE: dropbox ref is based on MAC address, with step (2), you no need to repeating uninstall the dropbox from the VM.
