discounted? $95.35 for a digital copy you cant even sell? :/

    • +2

I'm not one for liking the all-digital future either.
I went to get the deluxe edition directly from larion that is the only way to get physical discs, but it was going to cost ~$178 AUD posted, which I just can't justify.

If your PC can handle it, GOG is the best to buy digital as there's no DRM so you do actually own the digital copy of the game (can fully download all the files and play it forever without having to validate your license with a server)

      • You can get JP physical versions which are region free from PlayAsia for ~$110 AUD.

The Deluxe Edition from Larian comes with some extra knick knacks.

        • Pretty sure the JP version is censored in some way, turned me off it.

  • +2

If you want the PS5 Digital Deluxe version cheaper via the PS Store, get this offer and then pay for the Digital Deluxe Editon DLC for an extra $16.25 - will save about $9.00

  • +6

Re. The annoyance at digital only, I get it, I felt the same, however I bought it at the $105ish full price and had absolutely zero regrets.

It's ACTUALLY worth the price, the game is amazing and probably one of the best games ever made. I'm not into D&D or even RPGs that much.

    • +4

Funny I thought BG2 was the best game ever made. I never expected that 23 years later a sequel would be released, made by another company, that people are calling one of the best Games ever made. Sadly a significant portion of fans of BG2 have probably died of old age before getting to play number 3.

      • Don't forget dragonspear :/

      • +2

Nah, planescape torment all the way

        • That game was awesome, probably one of the best stories in any game I've played. Tedious combat though.

What can change the nature of a man?

          • +1

@Ezuku: Yes the mechanics are archaic (I played the original with bgtutu mod) and not sure but imagine they've done QoL updates on the recent release. But yep… the story!

      • This is my story. So good.

    • +1

Am also not into D&D or RPGs. Did it take you a while to get used to the combat? I loved the demo apart from the combat, its so slow paced and requires to much effort.

      • It took me a while. The combat is a little more complex than most games, quite enjoyable when you know what you're doing. I am not into D&D other than it being a version of it feature of the Baldurs Gate series.

        • My problem is the combat is less complex. Only one character able to move at a time and walking up to another who is helpless and frozen, with nothing you can do. In other RPGs you can pause and move characters away, have another change what they're doing to help, but in this you're just stuck without being able to do anything but watch the computer play a game for long stretches, or as much chance for complex responses involving your whole team in real time.

  • +5

At this price I'd rather buy physical.
After I'm done, I can sell it for 70$ easy.

What's the benefit of buying digital again?

    • +1

      Convenience

I have the physical edition on order.
I also haven't purchased Alan Wake 2, and I won't until it hopefully gets a physical release.

      • +2

Changing discs is about the only time I ever see and bother to wipe the dust from and around the PS5.

      • you're going to have to re-write your story then,,,

    • +5

don't have to get off my fat ass and don't have to deal with people ? LOL

    • +1

Convenience, that's it. The only digital store that's arguably worth it is GOG since there's no DRM and you can essentially share your game.
Physical is inconvenient having to take the game in and out but they are often cheaper through sales, clearing stock, used copies, price errors and you can resell or share.

    • +1

The benefits are once physical media is phased out they can charge us whatever the (profanity) they want

    • -2

Good luck buying it physical. It will cost you more than this. About $170

    • The developers make more money since others have to buy a fresh copy, so they can use that money towards developing more games.

That would be the main reason to do it, but that's for each person to decide.

    • digital, laughably incurs a tax for not having any physical items and saving the producers basically every cost…. as everyone knows, but it does work out better in following regards;

      1) you're 'console sharing'… i share with my mate, we get each others library or psn account bonusses. 1 digi cost, 2 owners = half price. generally i buy some he buys some tho.
      2) you're lazy and or play a lot of diff games and don't like changing discs

  • Can't believe I bought this for $40 pre-order on Turkey PSN

    • How do you do this?

      • +1

        did this

      • +1

sign up for Turkey account to stack 12 mth PS+ a year or two back. Then I can buy games in Turkish prices. Most games are slightly cheaper than Aus. Downside is they are digital. I'd prefer to buy a physical disk in most cases.

    • cant believe I didnt buy this but got it for free…ah well

  • Game of the year for sure

  • +6

    $95.35
    discounted

How did we get to this?

    • +4

Inflation I suppose. Adjusted for inflation I bet a lot of SNES and N64 games were more expensive. Though they had expensive (at the time) storage chips in them that had to be licensed from Nintendo, modern games are on a 20 cent disc or 0 cent internet…

      • I remember Blast Corps for the N64 being $135 at retail in Australia.

  • Worth every dollar even at this ludicrous price

  • +1

Waiting for an Xbox version deal!

    • +1

Buy Egypt key from Eneba. Cost around $30.

  • +3

As a proud ozb member, I almost never bought games at full price. Like I've done it perhaps 2-3x in my life.
But in this era rife with micro-transactions, this game is so worth it I have bought this game 3x at full price (2 as a gift, but still).

I even want to buy the deluxe physical edition, only thing stopping me is bloody 20 euro shipping fee. And no, the shipping cost is per item so even if I wanna do a group buy, it's 100 euro shipping for 5 items.

I would have even bought the collectors edition at full price had it been available. It would be my first collectors edition of any game ever and I'd be a proud supporter of Larian Studios and happily return my ozb membership.
100+ hours in and I'm not done with the game. It has won many GOTY and it totally brought CRPG back to its glory.
Definitely best game ever if not the 2nd best in my book.

    • Is this game good on co-op? Would it be too much for the wife who’s a casual gamer?

      • without knowing your wife i would say YES, she wouldn't be able to handle this :):
its a full on game - you have to be immersed in it for hrs per session, not for causal players

        • But it is for correlational players

      • +1

It's a long game.. even with skipping most side contents (that are actually great and dont feel like a chore), you'd still see 40-50 hours minimum.

That said, the game can be quite easy on the lowest difficulty. And the best part about the game is you can save anytime. Means it doesn't need to become too much and get in the way of life. I honestly don't play as much console games anymore because I can't find the time to be glued to the screen for hours, so the quicksave and quickload here is honestly a blessing.
This game is also surprisingly quite popular with girls, there are a lot of interactions and story between combats and the character progression/growth is amazing, you feel quite attached by the end. Not to mention there are hot dudes and ladies that you can romance.

The game is quite good for casual co-op. The owner/host can play however they like and the friend can hop-in/hop-out easily, it's quite easy to play with strangers/friends. But in terms of playing with your partner, it's tricky without knowing what kind of games they like. Turn-based games isnt for everyone, but it's definitely less punishing for newbies. Would help playing a melee character so she doesnt have to worry about spells in combat too.

        • Thanks for the detailed feedback. She has played games before like Diablo 3/4 and Borderlands and zombie shooters and the like, which she really enjoys so she definitely isn't completely new to games. But I do find I often lose her as soon as you are required to invest in the story and pay attention rather than just focusing on fun game play so this has be worried she might hate this game.

          • +1

@Smol Cat: I see. If you're the host, she doesn't have to interact with the NPCs and get the scenes if she doesn't want to. The scenes are generally for the character that triggers it. And she can come join your game whenever.

Story is certainly a big part of the game tho. It's nothing convoluted like Diablo's lore for sure, and it's quite easy to follow especially at the start. But yeah she seems to enjoy action games and just generally wrecking enemies? Baldur is turn-based so perhaps not as satisfying in that regard. Combat can be fun but it's moreso strategy and interactions with the environment e.g. spell combos, destroying barrels of oil, shooting down blazing braziers kind of chaos.

Perhaps you can give the game a try first and see if she may be interested? It did win the best multiplayer game this year, but it's still a great game solo and as it also won best RPG and GOTY amongst few other awards. It's also 10% off on Steam and GOG till the 3rd Jan afaik.

    • I bought Ass Creed Valhalla at full price because I enjoyed Odyssey so much, regretted that. I bought Cyber Punk full price, refunded that pretty quick. And I bought Persona 5 Royale full price, regretted that too because there was yet another edition that came out after.

  • +1

I wanna play this so badly.

  • I bought this yesterday for $106 :(

  • +2

Bought deluxe version on Xbox for around AUD27

    • Same here from last week

  • +1

… have barely started yet, but the penis/vulva selection options in the character screen shows that this is truly a game that goes the extra mile.

  • +1

I like getting games for free 🤖

  • Even at full price it is worth every penny

  • Amazing game, best i have played in years.

  • One of the best games I have ever played, and I play exclusively competitive online shooters.

Never played a game where your choices actually effect the story so much.

    • One of the big complaints at release was that the ending was rushed and none of your choices matter, with you just making a choice at the end regardless of what you did before. Did they patch it? Because apparently there was a lot of cut content in the files.

  • +2

still not cheap enough for me to buy it as digital, maybe $50 I will buy, or I will pay $90 for physical copy
I am sure give it another year will be cheaper, just be patient

  • +3

If you have Xbox, there is Egyptian cdkey for $24

    • Link please?

        • It's showing as 'can't be activated in Australia', is it just a case of redeeming it via a VPN or similar?

          • @Ozymandias: VPN will be needed

            • @kawara888: Thanks worked a treat! Tip: Need to use something other than Tunnelbear for the VPN. I used a Surfshark trial.

        • -1

The link refers to a key for Nigeria not Egypt, is this a scam?

          • @TheSmashingCrab: Nigeria is cheaper and much easier to find a Nigerian VPN. That is why I put this link

            • @kawara888: What VPN do you use for Nigeria?

              • +1

@TheSmashingCrab: I purchased Egyptian actually, there was no cheaper Nigerian at that time. Have to use trial ExpressVPN.

Nigerian you have much more choice.

                • @kawara888: Thanks for the confirmation, sorry for jumping to conclusions, just wanted to make sure i wasn't donating to the Fresh Prince of Nigeria. Cheers

            • +3

@kawara888: Weirdly enough I found it harder to find a Nigerian server - ExpressVPN didn't seem to have one, so had to use Surfshark. Otherwise no issues redeeming it, cheap as!

              • +2

@Ozymandias: Did the same, had to sign up for a surfshark trial because other vpns didnt work. Id recommend others use Egypt and not Nigeria even if its a couple of dollars more.

              • @Ozymandias: Did this and works thanks
Tried Tunnelbear first but wasn't working but surfshark was good. Just use the freetrial on iphone

    • +2

Thanks for the tip! Just did this and got the deluxe version for ~$27. Used VPN.lat on Android.

      • I tried using VPN lat but i cant redeem it as it still says my xbox as (Australia). Got any tips on what site you are using and any thing i need to check before trying to redeem? Also that link say the game is for Nigeria and not Egypt so im a bit confused.

        • +1

          redeem.microsoft.com

Just search and buy the Egypt version.

  • +1

    any deal for PC?

  • +1

I hear this is better on Xbox, like most games.

    • +1

And usually much cheaper. So I have 2 consoles

  • +1

Bought this at ps5 release to play couch coop with my brother on his holidays and it hasn't disappointed. Wouldn't have bought digital for any other game.

  • -4

    $94 digital version…what a bargain…

  • I bought this 2 hours before they applied the sale discount. Any one had success with getting PlayStation to credit the difference back to the account?

    • +1

Update: called PlayStation customer support. Jim Ryan personally came on the chat and told me to imagine his middle finger sticking up right in my face.

If this was a physical copy I'd purchased at JB for example, I reckon they'd refund me the difference without any real hassle. Got to love the digital only future and the monopoly Sony has on the sales and refunds

      • +1

Call back. You will likely get someone else and a chance at helping you out.

      • I had trouble refunding a game once, Sony have no consideration of Australian consumer law, as soon as I mentioned it they folded

  • Great game but highly recommend avoiding it if you wanna play co op split screen - devs released a patch that crashes when the second player joins, there is a workaround but still this is piss poor QA. I think this has been and still is live after a month.

Most times my partner and I have tried to play we’ve spent the first 30 minutes (profanity) about to get it to work - another issue that affected us previously was the Multiplayer menu (used for granting control of characters) will not appear ingame unless you are online on PSN, even if the game is being played locally. Do better Larian.
