Johnnie Walker Blue Label Scotch Whisky, 700ml @ $205.99 seems like a pretty good price to me.

Is it worth it? Not sure, as I never tasted it. I am a Green Label fan when it comes to Johnnie Walker.

Also a fair number of other spirits on (Boxing Day) Sale.

  • Is it worth it?

I recently been on a jw blue phase again and I say yes

Does it go well with coke?

      • Depends what type of coke

I remember once about 17-18 years ago I was out drinking with some mates one night. One mate in particular bought a nip of JW Blue and asked me if I'd like to try it. I said yes, tried it and then said 'Whoa, that definitely needs to be mixed with Coke'. He looked at me like I'd just said the most blasphemous thing he'd ever heard. I understood why when I found out what the cost of the bottle is.

      • I unironically have it with Pepsi max sometimes actually. Otherwise just straight with 1 Ice cube is fine too.

Are you getting it for free?

    • +1

I'd say it isn't, it's definitely a 'clean' tasting scotch, but for the money there are some peatier scotches out there that I believe more people would enjoy and not feel like they need to wash out with coke.

I'm not a heavy scotch drinker, but my cousins were big on whiskeys so I got to try quite a few. For the money Lark single malt was excellent and Lagavulan for something peaty (not cheap mind you).

I see the appeal of lag 16 but just… too peaty for me… one and done for me usually

    • When I used to drink , it was the only spirit I could have straight. So , I'd say it's pretty good shit !

Green all the way baby! - this is worth 2x bottles of GREEEEEN!!!

Ive still got two greens from 2000's - just waiting for me patiently….MUST RESIST!

Hey mate, just FYI, whisky doesn't keep as well as we have been told growing up. A bottle in good condition, intact in the packaging and stored upright will keep for a long period of time, but your mileage will vary after the 10yrs mark.

I recently opened a bottle of green (around 2021) that I got gifted back in 2006 and it's been at the back of our wardrobe stored upright since then. The amount of liquid on it had reduced a lot compared to a fresh bottle from Dan's. But more important that the quantity, the taste was off too :(, verified the taste with a fresh bottle my mate opened and we did a taste test between the two bottles. Of course there'd be variations between batches etc, but the old bottle just tasted off and just didn't feel like much ethanol was left in it to be honest…

I've since started enjoying my bottles within a few years of purchase to be honest, since they don't age out of the cask anyway, no real point holding onto common releases of drops that won't go out of business any time soon.

Good point - I knew they could go bad in the bottle….just found that old one was better then the current batch when they killed it off in the 201x years.
Ok - time to have a GOOOOD Christmas then!!

      • That's just an experience with a single bottle. I've opened bottles from the 1980's with nothing wrong. Just a poor seal for that specific bottle i'd say.

You typically buy bottles and keep them as quality seems to be declining generally for releases over the years.

I do agree though that unless its the 1980s and prior, Johnnie Walker isn't majorly different to today.

I remember stashing a bottle of 151 rum under my bed as a less-than-18 year old to hide it and forgetting about it. A few years later when I found it almost half of the bottle had evaporated off! It was still sealed and had been lying down.

More than two bottles of green on discount. Luckily I am well stocked since 2020

  • For those have costco membership or costco giftcard (can go in without membership), check costco. I just bought the blue label for $190 something.

Not in QLD or SA. 😢

better than blue? does it taste similar tho? i dont mind the taste/feel of blue tbh

      • If you want something similar to blue without the crazy price. The closest I'd say for a smooth premium blend would be a Chivas 18.

      • No it’s a Peaty single malt, great for the price

  • +1

Did a whole bottle during covid because that's all I had left.
Boring and smooth with a hint of smoke is how i'd describe it. There's some old whisky in it but there is better out there for the money.
Also noticed a slight chemical taste after a while, couldn't quite put my finger on what it was.

  • +1

Well, I think that it is lovely whisky - but not convinced about the value.

To my mind, Green is more interesting and Talisker 10 definitively so. I'd buy one each of those two and have over $40 in change.

194.99 in Costco at the moment . a few days ago 20% off coles liquors, my friend bought one for 183.

    • Fair enough. But Costco requires a membership (as does Amazon Prime) and neither Costco nor Coles sell Booze up here in Qld.
BTW, is that Klopp in your profile picture?
