VIOFO A119 MINI 2 + CPL Attachment $168.01 Delivered (Regular Price $242.88) @ Viofo

190
VANCOUVER

This is via the official US site.

Dashcam itself has a Christmas discount from AUD $220.81 to AUD $165.61

Add the CPL Attachment, which is discounted from AUD $22.07 to AUD $19.86

At checkout, apply code "VANCOUVER", which I found via Google (dealspotr.com), adds the line "12 USD Discount Code for A119 MINI 2" to the cart, brings the total down to $168.01 as of time of posting. The camera alone does not appear to meet the threshold for the code to work, other addons such as memory cards seem to be eligible as well.

I purchased earlier today, total was AUD $169.20 then, I guess exchange rate has changed. Received confirmation of shipping just now.

Note: I can't see mention of GST being charged. I ordered the exact same from this site during the Black Friday sales a month ago (for almost the exact same price but different vouchers), just checked that invoice and it was the same. I received that one within a couple of weeks without hassle, but YMMV.

    Try code MERRYXMAS

    • Ah of course. Right on the front page too 🤣 lucky I wanted the attachment regardless, but if you don't, then this would be cheaper

    • Yea $150.89 with this code. I got it earlier from Amazon for $152.99.

Had 3 viofos in last 3 years, 2x129pro duo, 1x129 plus, all stopped working around 18 months.
    Never buy this brand again.

    • Yeah I got one a month ago, seems a little bit flakey. Sometimes I don't hear it start up and not sure if its recording. Using it with the Hk4 hardwire kit.
Would have bought another blackvue had I known what this one would be like

    • +1

Had 3 of them and other no name one over the years, all of them still work until this day, the first gen give me grief by corrupting last recorded file but simple trick fix it. The latest duo plus has issues with switching from parking to drive mode at times so just need to watch them every now and then.

What other brand do you recommend?

    • +1

Had the opposite experience, first Viofo daskcam ordered in June 2016, have ordered over 4 on family cars, find them to be very reliable and in Perth 45 degrees days..

  • Does this have a specific rear camera companion? Or can I pair it with any Viofo rear camera?

    • Nope, it's just a standalone camera and doesn't have a rear option - so either buy 2 and install separately or look at the A229 Plus or Pro (assuming you want the Starvis2 sensor, which you likely do).

  • +4

Had Viofo A119 v1, v2, v3 and now A229 Pro. None have skipped a beat.

Can't beat the image quality out of Viofo.

    • A229 are new series, aren't they?

      • Yep. A229 Pro and A229 Plus. I don't have the Plus but have the Vantrue Nexus 4 Pro and Vantrue S1 Pro, both have Starvis 2 sensors like the A229 series.

Viofo has the better image quality but the Vantrue has the nicer design and better execution of app and firmware tbh

        • Do you find the better design, app & firmware of the Vantrue outweighs the video quality of the VIOFO? How's the video quality of of the Vantru. Can you still make out license places, even during night driving?

          • @Widget: Not quite with the Vantrue. I run both cameras in my car, with the other as redundancy.

Tbh the Vantrue is nicer to use and not as buggy as the Viofo, but if I had to choose on quality alone it would be Viofo hands down. Interior cameras and rear cameras are ok on the Vantrue but don't hold up to the Viofo's not by a long stretch (no Starvis 2 on rear of Vantrue etc, if you decide to go down the 3-channel route). The front cameras between the two are comparable between the two as they use the same Starvis 2 sensor, but the Vantrue processing is more saturated colours as opposed to Viofo's traditional colouring (hence more details in capture etc).

Both you can make out licence plates during night, the Viofo edges out the Vantrue by a bit. Both are quite good with the whole headlights on licence plate thing, because that was an improvement introduced with the Starvis 2 sensors across the board, no matter which brand uses it.

I'm in the middle of testing the two in summer heat conditions here in Australia, but so far the Viofo shutdown as a protection mechanism while the Vantrue does not. Bit of a dicey topic because obviously you're running a 4k+2k+1080p stream with the Viofo, while Vantrue is less demand from having lower streams. Will be interesting to see how they both hold up.

Been running Viofo in all my, wife's and my parents cars for years. Never had one fail.

Does anyone know if this has super capacitor?

    • +1

      Found it in product details:
      Battery & Charging:
NO battery, use capacitor, 5V 1A.

      • Capacitor is good for the sun and heat, right?

        • +1

Yes! Last longer. I wouldn't buy a battery operated dashcam. Our sun is violent, especially if you park your car outside.

  • Reminds me i need to install mine… hmmmm

    • Air tasker.

      • -1

Isn't it risky getting a random to install? With computers/electronics in modern cars, would it not be a risk of shorting an air bag or the ecu, or other? or is it more simpler to install than that?

        • I’d be very surprised if someone is able to short airbags and/or the ECU while installing a dashcam - I would be more concerned about how the wiring is routed throughout the car, e.g wiring near or crossing airbags - seen plenty of dealers and audio stores do this.

          • @rba: Many videos I've seen show them running the cable across the top of the windscreen and down the A-Pillar where the airbag is. This is a no-no?

            • +1

@Widget: I do all my installs myself and run it down the A pillar. But I bundle it with the existing cables that are in there so they're not going to interact with the airbag when it deploys.

It's not a hard job to do, install dashcams yourself by taking off the plastic panels. Takes an hour or two tops if you're wiring to the back as well.

  • Thanks Op,

Just got another Viofo for my parents car. Got A119 V3 with GPS $117 AUD delivered. Much cheaper that everywhere else.

  • Thanks Op!

"We have also gone through numerous tests and collected multi-channel feedback, we only recommend VIOFO original cards, Sandisk MAX, or EXTREME endurance cards as per the below pic, most other cards are not recommended, like the Samsung EVO card."

Just received the one I ordered before posting; 6 days delivery over the xmas break isn't bad.

    • Where was it shipped from?

      • Just checked the label, says it came from Chullora NSW, so I guess they have stock locally. The contents are also amusingly labelled as "Home casual clothes".

  • I got the A119 mini awhile back and now want to add a rear. Could I feasibly get something like the A119 and just use a long USB cable to the rear if i don't want to hardwire it?

  • How do I work out which hardwire kit I need? I've got a 2010 FG Ford Falcon G6.
