Schweppes Lemonade and Peters Icy Pole Lemonade

What happen to these Lemonade flavoured gems?

I grew up with both Schweppes Lemonade and Peters Icy Pole Lemonade all my life!

The last few years leading into COVID I have noticed the flavour for both of these has gone missing and is nothing like it once was.

Has anybody notice this? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

Schweppes Lemonade has not changed. Your taste may have.

O.P. may have long Covid - affected taste?

    • I had COVID two months ago. But I noticed the taste difference well before during say 2019/2021.

I'm convinced these companies have substituted the flavourings to reduce costs, or maybe due to international supply chain availability.

Or maybe your taste buds/taste preferences have changed since you were a kid.

        • I don't think so. With all other things equal I haven't noticed other foods flavour change.

  • I recommend Pepsi Max instead

I’ll take it one step further and recommend mix with jw blue

Idk if it helps but that lemonade should be enjoyed ice cold, like justtt before freezing. The type of ice cold that only a 30+ year old freezer now relegated to dedicated garage beers can do. The way it hits you on a hot summer day after mowing the lawn. Don’t get better than this.

    • I always have them nice and cold. It really tastes like slightly sweet carbonated water with no flavour profile.

But even the icy poles seem less sweet and more flat and bitter with the lemonade flavour.

  • I think Schweppes has changed. It's more bland than it used to be, to me.And 'flatter'? I'd say they have swapped out the % of plant based flavourings for either a cheaper imported version, or a chemical substitute. Maybe the original recipes are online and they can be compared.
The choice of lemonades in Straya has shrunk.

  • Both full of sugar and not good for your health - give them up

    • I agree! I tried drinking the sugar free ones for a while which were good substitute. But I did notice a flavour changed in a new batch one time which my family confirmed it didn't taste normal for the sugar free version. So I went back to the full sugar one noticing the change.
