eBay Seller Refusing for a Local Dropoff

Long story short , I got confused while ordering something and ordered a smaller size. Since the product had already been on the way , I accepted the delivery and thought I would just to the return myself since the product isnt big and seller was close by.
Now the seller is refusing to accept the return from me and asks me to return it via courier . Any suggestions ?

You can't force a seller to accept a "change of mind" return, let alone accept it on your terms.

Aaaaaand give away their home address in the process?

      • +3

To be fair, if you generate a return post label it will have the seller's address on it

What’s the sellers terms for returns

        • -5

30 days after the buyer receives it
The buyer is responsible for return postage costs.

You must return items in their original packaging and in the same condition as when you received them. If you don't follow our item condition policy for returns item condition policy for returns, you may not receive a full refund.
Refunds by law: In Australia, consumers have a legal right to obtain a refund from a business if the goods purchased are faulty, not fit for purpose or don't match the seller's description. More information at returns (link) https://pages.ebay.com.au/returns/

          • @urahara: read this over and over, and tell us which part of the law requires them to accept it back?

@Wiadro: That's great but if part of the sale is that change of mind returns are ok (i.e. a cooling off period) then… it can't just be struck from the terms of the sale.

            • @Wiadro: The part where they accept returns within 30 days is part of their return policy. Nowhere does it state that it must be returned by post just that the buyer is responsible for any return costs.

But the seller has accepted the return, just wants the OP to return it via courier instead of dropping it back. I don't know why people need to conflate two separate issues? I'm surprised so many people upvoted your comment when it's not the issue the OP is asking about.

      • when it's not the issue the OP is asking about

The OP was complaining that they could not return the item on their own terms. That is exactly the issue that the second part of my single sentence addressed.

Buy the bigger size. Gift the smaller size to a friend or family.

As above, you don't dictate the terms for a change of mind return, the seller does.

Return it via the method they request or not at all but I'm guessing you want to 'save' on postage right? Sorry not an option.

FFS just return it by courier. Seller is just protecting themselves against eBay rules that nearly always favour the buyer.

Maybe u can try dressing yourself in courier outfit, drop it off at the return address, ask him/her to sign receipt of goods
    ;-P

I would ask you via ebay messages to return via courier. I would then contact you on your mobile number (acessible from your address details in the order section) via a free telstra payphone, during which I would agree for you to drop it off to me at the local shops.

Once I have received it I will deny receiving it. You will be unable to provide ebay with proof of delivery and ebay will find in my favour.

I will randomly order pizza to your address, and request quotes from various trades. I will sign you up to free University of Tasmania courses and complete the assignments poorly.

I will contact your employer for reference checks.

    But thats just me.

You could cosplay a courier and return it yourself. Though, you may have issues with tracking.

    Or, just use a courier.

Bikies Express - we deliver everything. Tracking included.

  • "me to return it via courier" anymore questions?

  • +10

The REASON for the courier is proof of delivery. It's trivially easy to drop the package at their doorstep but if eBay doesn't see the return tracking then the systems stop working and then you and/or the seller loses out.

If you want the refund, then you want the proof your return has arrived to the seller - this is in your interest.

Seriously… which part of "seller not wanting you to drop it off" do you not understand? You've made the initial error about the size and you've also made the [incorrect] assumption that they would accept a local drop-off. The seller has never indicated, directly or indirectly, that they would accept such method. They've given you clear instructions on how to return the product.

    Any suggestions ?

Yes - return it by courier or don't return it. (I'm not even the seller but I feel frustrated for the seller! lol)

  • Seller lives across the road.

    Any suggestions?

Yep, don't make assumptions in the future.

  • order a bunch of pizzas to their house

  • I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest the eBay will cover some of the cost of the return for the seller if they can prove they got it back - which requires shipping.

Returns for online ordering is a big rort and the product is often dumped and not put back into stock.

There are a bunch of reasons for not wanting you to drop it off. They could operate their business after hours, out of a storage facility, not have an area in their business for walk in customers etc. Book a sendle return, have them pick it up from your place and take the few dollars it costs as a lesson to check your order.

Easy. I suggest sending it via courier. Next question, please.

Typical example of people only think about what's convenient to them, rather than what's inconvenient to others.
