Old PC Parts - Sell or E-Waste?

I have 2 computer builds that are fairly old and just taking up space that I don't have, and wanted people's thoughts on the best way of disposing of it, and possibly getting some money back (it is OzBargain after all).

The 2 'builds' (mostly taken apart) are as follows:
4690k with motherboards
16gb ram
GTX 970 / RTX 2060 Super

Gumtree/FB as separate parts seems the easiest (cash only etc), but I think only the 2060 Super will be of any value here.

Rebuild and selling seems like too much effort, as parts (e.g. PSU) of the old builds have been moved to new ones, especially as the tech is quite old. Seems pointless to buy new parts just to get these old builds working/sellable.

Or I just wait for my council's next e-waste day

Or is there a place in Sydney that will accept old PC Parts in bulk and give me money for it? Initial searching shows nothing.

Any thoughts/suggestions welcome!

There a bunch of not-for-profits that recycle e-waste or repair/re-use, somewhat like this one: https://www.whirlrecycling.com

    • Nice! Not too far from me so will definitely look into it. Thank you!

I've had (some) success just putting a nominal amount on fb marketplace e.g. $5 for each ram stick - sometimes it gets sold right away, sometimes takes a month

Put it out on the nature strip and it will be gone by the next day

I took a few to the tip last year but as they still worked the recycle guys took them for re-purposing.

good computer for kids playing minecraft etc, perhaps market is that and sell for a low price to move it. Should have a fairly active market in Sydney.

Combo of both - I'd check eBay prices and decide based on that.

Likely still mobos(or package with ram/CPU) and GPUs. Anything that doesn't sell, e-waste.

Those should be easy to sell, the RTX 2060 Super is still worth a fair amount (the GTX 970 less so)and the CPUs, motherboards and RAM can be sold as a package.

If you want to just get rid of it without much hassle and want a few bucks, you could always sell it to the likes of CeX.

  • You can give it away on gumtree, and sell the video cards.

  • OCAU buy sell section

Or you can just hold on to it for a few years to think about it and then it is only worth e-waste. That's what I did.
I usually upgrade my families and friends PCs with old parts. The ones that don't need the latest.

  • Sell the ram, board and cpu on eBay as a lot, you’ll get a case of beer out of it
PSU, depending on the brand someone might buy it, especially if the wattage is decent
If the case is nothing special put on marketplace for free

  • Sell the gpus (fbm or gumtree) but give away the pc bits

  • I have what used to be the guts of my current PC.
CPU/cooler, motherboard and ram. It still works but I would rather donate it to some place that can use it for people from Ukraine or people who have lost their house from storms floods etc. It's only last gen stuff a Ryzen 9 5900x, 32GB of ddr4 3200 ram, aorus elite motherboard (case -minus motherboard screws) a 650w psu. So no GPU, motherboard screws or storage.
Every place near by I can find only accepts stuff for destruction recycling not reusing. I don't really want to list on gumtree/facebook it for free only to get entitled people looking for a free upgrade. Or have people telling me off at 2am that it's in power saving mode or wanting free support for it etc.
