Mosaic: A Story of Civilization - Board Game $49 (RRP $90) + Delivery ($0 C&C) @ EB Games/Zing/eBay

110

Looks to be the cheapest price so far for this game. Currently rated 7.6 on BGG. You can purchase it from their eBay store and possibly use some coupons there but if you have some discounted gift cards then perhaps EBGames is your best bet. If you are a Nigel (like me) then you may need this rule book for solo play. Sorry, I think you also have to print out some AI Cards here.

BGO Price History

Mosaic: A Story of Civilization is a Civilization-Building game from Glenn Drover, designer of, among others, Age of Empires III: The Age of Discovery, Railways of the World, Sid Meier's Civilization: The Boardgame, and Raccoon Tycoon.

Mosaic is an action selection game. On your turn, you will perform one of eight actions and acquire pillars of civilization.

Acquiring pillars is important in creating the unique mosaic of your civilization. They are used as prerequisites for many new technologies, as well as for scoring. Also, by pursuing specialization in one or more civilization pillars, you may be able to claim a ‘Golden Age’ of that type.

As the game goes on and your civilization grows, scoring cards are eventually revealed from the four decks. Each time a scoring card is revealed, your civilization will score for each region that you dominate with your cities, towns, wonders, and military units. After the third scoring card is revealed, there is one final turn and the game ends. You will then score for your cities and towns, your wonders, projects, achievments, and golden ages, and for all of your cards that score for your unique civilization pillars.

-description from publisher (corrected and updated)

Please note that the solo rules are only included in the Kickstarter editions, not in the retail versions (although they are available as print-and-play in French at the very least).

Edit: Hmm, direct link to solo rule book doesn't seem to be allowed. Changed it to the page that links to it.

Edit 2: Hmm, reading into it more, maybe you can't play Solo without the kickstarter version, unless you print out some AI Cards here.

I only get a few dollors off via eBay. I have some gift cards I can use which would bring it down a bit more.

  • Was just in Zing and looks like this version doesnt come with minitures but wodden blocks instead. Been looking for a game to scratch the itch of playing Age of Empires and what looks to be the closest ive seen online is c"lash of cultures" but it has 2 versions being the standard and deluxe (monumental) but the price is $100-$200+.
Anyone played this one? Cheap enough but if its without the minitures I dont think ill bite.

I have Mosaic and the KS edition, the miniatures can make a mess of things and really doesn't make the game. I've played with the cardboard tokens and found it less cumbersome.
Clash of Cultures sure does get close to Age of Empires where as Mosaic is more like Terraforming Mars (card engine building game).
There is a little bit of combat and area control, but you are more collecting cards to make best your engine.

      • @Gandalf the Grey the complexity like with Clash of cultures? I love my board games but struggle to engage if they are too over the top with rules.
