feels like everyday price with how often they are on "sale"

    • It has definitely become a pattern.

  • Is the s350db worth it over the r1700bt?
Is it a really good subwoofer? Will be used for playing music on my study desk
    Thanks!

If you can push to $499 with a coupon discount on Amazon, the S360DB is worth it. Being from Amazon as well, you can return it easily without any questions asked if you don't like it (just keep the box it comes with for easy packaging). For differences to the S350DB, you can check my post about it here when it was at a historic low price before:

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/721453

If your budget is limited to around $300, the S350DB is definitely a great choice too for desktop at this price range.

If you already have a DAC and Speaker AMP, then there should also be a few standalone non-powered bookshelf speakers that will be better in this price range.

      • I wish s360db could get cheaper to the the 425$ low price. It's been a long while.

        • Only happened twice, last time was in 2022 I believe. Do a CamelCamelCamel email notification for when it goes below $450 so you get an email straight away, and best to get it from Amazon AU as the seller as well, because even after 30 days you can return it easily after a year or two if anything happens with it. Even after 2 years, their customer service is great.

          • @ThatsCheap: Curious as it is a big item and I usually keep boxes. If after 30 days I return as something happened, is there any big prices to pay for shipping?

            • @RQNinja: It's $449 at Centrecom as well, so cheaper than Amazon. Someone else posted it in the comments.

If there is a fault with them and you're returning it after 30 days on Amazon, there shouldn't be a shipping fee, as long as you specify a fault and talk to them on chat.

        $449.
Thank you for your review I really enjoyed reading it. I have a Z623 as well for movie and gaming on my TV quite happy with it but now you made thinking about upgrading.

        • $449 is even better than the Amazon deal. OP should add this to the main post @O O

Z623 to the S360DB would be a huge upgrade in terms of quality (don't expect like bigger bass, it is, but you'll notice immediately it's a lot cleaner and the punch is sharper and more pristine, as to the vocals and instruments, there is no comparison, the S360DB will be out of this world in comparison to the Logitechs). I went to the S350DB first, then in 2021 switched to the S360DB.

      • Have you heard the R2000DB? I have a pair and wonder if the S360 may be an upgrade in sound quality

        • Not sure to be honest.

Wait until Amazon AU becomes the seller on Amazon AU (as in not a third party selling on Amazon) and another crazy special happens where it drops to like $430 or lower and then buy it. If you don't feel like it's a worthy upgrade, return it. Much easier to return to Amazon AU as the seller.

    • ThatsCheap has already sold it, but I use the S350DB for my TV rather than a sound bar. The subwoofer is very good. The bonus is that the speakers are fairly small so would take up less room on your desk compared to the R1700BT.

  • these or the other B stock focal 806?

Can someone explain Edifiers model naming convention and help me understand the positioning of the models in the R series range?

It appears as though they just randomly release new products simply for the sake of having new products to show off at the next trade exhibition or something.

The housings change a little bit here and there, +/- 5° tilt (woohoo!), swapping between a couple of different tweeter options, add/remove/change optical input, randomise port placement, digital coaxial input, second analogue input, subwoofer output, Bluetooth SBC, Bluetooth with aptX, dual amp with active crossover.

Because I found the situation to confusing I ended up ordering multiple different models/variants from Amazon to compare.
Even comparing them IRL it's was very much subjective and dependent on what options you have for speaker placement/alignment, what inputs are relevant to your hardware / setup, do you care about aptX etc. 🤪

    I tested R1280DBs, R1380DB, R1700BT and R1700BTs.

I ended up keeping the R1700BT for myself, the walnut colour of the BTs version looked horrible with my all black furniture and wall to wall nanoleaf shapes/ lines.

The appearance, active crossover and associated cleaner wiring worked well for me and the fact that I don't intend to add a sub or use digital inputs in the near future meant the 1280/1380 didn't have any advantages.

Subjectively the sound stage seemed more consistent with the 1700 series, i.e. change from sit to standing mode at your desk, kicking back while "participating" in meetings/stand ups, hiding out of frame so others can't see you eating breakfast cereal for lunch etc.

I ended up giving the R1380DB to my brother and returning the others, luckily Amazon are pretty chill about change of mind returns.

  • Sorry if this has been asked before - can someone please recommend speaker stands for 1280DBS ?

  • R1280DBs over the R1280DB at this price point?

I can't see a tonne of differences from my uneducated eye but assume the remote, bluetooth 5.0 and whatever else for a few bucks are probably worth it.

Looking to swap out old trash Logitech PC speakers + some Bluetooth use and Xbox/PS5 (If possible).

From a quick glance it seems like the R1280DBs has the subwoofer output and the R1280DB doesn't.

I was looking at these two speakers too, and also S360DB. Couldn't justify S360DB for my pc so went ahead with R1280DB that has a subwoofer input so in future it's capable of adding T5 subwoofer, but if you are considering sub, go with S360DB if looking for wireless sub, otherwise the S350DB is a better choice.
R1280dbs is an awesome little speaker. Good enough for my bedroom. I think the remote is different to R1280db too.

  • I keep looking at these as an alternative to Audio Engine A2+ 🥹

    • i wouldnt do that

I have the A2+, and as long as you have the audio correction file to get rid of the mid hump, theyre great, i wouldnt compare any of these to Audio Engine, i would call the Edifiers == Logitech/Creative Labs +…but not Audio Engine level

Equalizer APO: https://equalizerapo.com/ <— anyone using PC for audio should be using this - as a bonus if your sound card outputs volume thats still too low with unpowered speakers (laptops especially, or even some crap powered ones on desktop setups), this is your fix right here….just add some Preamp gain….

      Equalizer APO correction file: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/mit7p0rys1rn2chxg5x5m/AudioEn…

      1) Install Equalizer APO, enable driver for devices, reboot

      2) Download Equalizer APO correction zip file, extract the 2 included files

      3) Put both files in :

      C:\Program Files\EqualizerAPO\config

      4) Run Equalizer APO -> Configuration Editor

      5) Make sure button next to Include: AudioEngine_A2_Plus_Equalizer_APO.txt is enabled

      6) Then toggle that button off to see the difference :)

p.s. i use mine via USB for the included DAC

  • The Edifier R1700BT appear to be the old model - as the picture is showing previous generation remote control.

I would avoid the old model as there is no security on the bluetooth connection. The speakers are constantly in 'pairing' state and anyone can join at any time with no password required.

If you are using the speakers on the 'Line In' input and someone connects via Bluetooth then the BT connection takes priority. Making for a extremely frustrating experience.

Accidently played porn a couple of times when it's paired to my phone unknowingly

    • Mine doesn’t broadcast itself unless it’s set to Bluetooth mode

  • I use a speaker designed for TV for my desktop pc. I think it is better than the speakers here in volumn and sound quality…
