i wouldnt buy current Gen Intel, for my money and the 1st time in my IT life (and people who know me have fainted) id go the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

reason: the sheer number of people buying the i7-14700K (and other 14th Gen) having to turn off all the E cores to avoid stuttering in gaming and multitasking workloads

same number of cores with hyperthreading on Intel and AMD (8 cores/16 threads), except you wont have the issues with AMD and wont feel like you got cheated because youve had to turn off cores you paid for - just make sure you update your mobo drivers on AMD because some Mobo vendors did silly shiz early on and AMD chips went bye byes

I would say this is also kind of evident with my 13th gen i7 on Dell laptop as well (ULP family).
The laptop sometimes performs strangely, as my cheap Lenovo R5-5600U sometimes performs much better and more responsive. I use all work-related stuff so I am not a gamer.
Both of the machines are running on 16GB RAM and they are both have plenty of disk space left.

In the meantime, I also use Mac mini (M2 Pro) as my general machine for videos, web browsing and bit of the artwork including Adobe and Fusion360. I find M2 is more power efficient (maybe I should just use Linux for web-based instead lol), I know it's ARM not X86/-64 but you only feel the difference when you run VMs. The system optimisation seems to be bit better due to the Apple eco-system, as they have P and E cores as well.

TLDR, I think we might need to wait for a bit of time before software are optimised for P and E cores in Windows.

Intel sadly seems stuck in a rut and no sign of any real innovation, one of their problems is manufacturing process size, theyre having to resort of fudging numbers to make it seem like theyre even competitive against smaller nanometer manufacturing. Im just not sure how they got to this point, seems unfathomable. For me to finally concede AMD has the upper hand is one thing, but i never thought id also end up giving crApple a gong, for several decades of my IT career, every time they came out with a magazine cover proclaiming they had the fastest or most efficient PC we were able to laugh and tell them to hold our beers, but not any more. I might hate crApple and the complete ass of a person Jobs was (terrible terrible human), and as much as i hate their business practices, theyve earned the right to make everyone sit up and see theyve been resting on their laurels. you cant argue with the efficiency of their platform. Still wouldnt buy one, but have to give them some props. Of course it does give them a huge advantage that they control from hardware to OS, while we still have to their eyes a fractured ecosystem with PC's. But brave move for them to ditch Intel and go their own…

        • Agree. Apple eco system is quite expensive.

Can't believe they sell ARM-based, although very powerful, machines with such big price tag.

    • wait whut, who is turning off E-cores?

      • Gamers who dont want games stuttering when they start using economy cores

        • fake news, games use p cores

    • I don't notice this on my 13600k but they are using the same architecture.. why is 14th gen different?

      • there isnt any difference. there is no substance behind their claim

  • HI BPC,

I'm considering the "Siren Vortex Elite GeForce RTX 4080 Gaming PC".

Could you please add some upgrade options for the air cooler like peerless assassin or AK620? Many thanks!

    • Done :)

      • Ordered it. Thank you

        • Cheers :)

  • Interesting that in cpu options you can choose the same CPU but save $30

14700KF has no integrated GPU. Although not needed with the 4080, some like having an integrated GPU for testing or moving parts across systems later.

      • +2

I knew the difference but I actually didn't see the f lol.
        Thanks for highlighting

How many fps can this do on crysis at 720p?

    • +1

      at least 25 i would say….

    • lol

    • Better stick with the board game "Crysis Analogue Edition".

  • Rumours say the 4080 super will be 999USD. but then those are just rumours, take it with a grain of whatever you want.

    • +2

Seems to be pretty much set to be the case, 4080's will be discontinued along with the 4070ti, the 4080 super will replace 4080 at $999 and the 4070 Ti super (idiotic name) will take over the 4070ti spot at the same price with about 15% better performance. All the other cards will slot in between, 4070 will drop to $549 with super taking up the $599 spot.

      All US Msrp of course.

      • 4070Ti S isn't an idiotic name as it distinguishes the difference between OG Ti which has less VRAM and memory bus.
22% perf increase and higher CUDA core count, may not be a massive gaming boost but when you're doing content creation, specifically using Davinci Resolve, this card will be stellar.

        EDIT Info

        • It is an idiotic name and its because of the 4080 12gb, they could have named that card a 4070 Super with a Ti being released now but they wanted to screw their customers as much as possible so now they had to double down and add a Super to Ti, with Ti usually denoting the best card in that class.

          • -3

@scud70: No what has happened was their 4XXX series was woeful to begin with, anyone that decided to buy into their poor new offerings only screwed themselves.
The Ti S moniker serves for actual perf increases, stop being so obtuse.

        • -1

It's idiotic because ti is meant to be a higher tier than super.. but because of their stupid naming convention stuffing it up calling it a 4080, they chose to make it appear as if it was still close to the 4080 with the ti nomenclature.. Nvidia stuffed around the 40 series apart from 4080 and 4090

          • +1

@maverickjohn: It's NOT idiotic when you can clearly see there is improvements, what is the issue, reading hard for you?
You think a Ti with and S next to it is lesser than a Ti?

These are not singular denotations, they're additives, so expressively make a better perf product.

The biggest improvement here is for the 4070 Ti S, yet here you are complaining that something that costs the same (rumored) as previous incarnations but with better perfs, here you are crying out that the naming convention is idiotic.

            Erm OK.

I couldn't careless if the newer refresh was called the 4070 Ti Super duper oh please don't hurt ma feels edition.

It doesn't matter, what matters is there is a big increase in perf, oh buh duh nams, it hurtz…

            • @[Deactivated]: No one said the product was idiotic only the name… You are overlapping the two.
Also just because you don't care if they call it super duper it doesn't mean what they did was right. If they released the 4070 ti as 4070 super and called the new one 4070 ti, it would have been in line with what previous gens had.
Also you are being sensitive when no one is targeting you, yet you are being quite rude towards scud, calling him obtuse and then mocking me as if it hurts my feelings.. you need to relax.

              • -2

@maverickjohn: Both of you still don't get it, what nVidia has been doing all along has been shafting customers, but suddenly because someone perhaps invested in a previous purchase, that the may have buyer's remorse.
The 4XXX gen is a joke, but the 4070Ti S is something that will be worth an investment.
If you don't know your hardware, then that's on you.
Calling someone "obtuse" isn't an insult, it's an observation, all down to how the refreshes of nVidia do what they do.
You wanted the new releases as something you could have possibly purchased a while ago, well that's on you.

I edit, I find my 3070Ti constraining, but it is far better than the 4070 which yields a lower memory bus, this is crucial for editing.
I got my 3070Ti 2 years ago for a bargain and has served me well, if the 4070Ti S is priced as a 4070Ti, then that's when I will upgrade, I don't game, I use the GPU for a workhorse.
I understand what the limitations of previous releases are, and AMD still hasn't been able to catch nVidia in the NLE field.

Think as you please, but to cry about a naming convention or 3 incarnations of 1 SKU, yeah well that's on the person who has buyer's remorse and doesn't do the better research.

                12GB to 16GB VRAM check
                192 bus to 256 check
                ~800 CUDAs extra check

Not for gaming, but at least I know what I am getting into.

                • @[Deactivated]: Im actually running a 3070 and looking at skipping this gen completely or get a 4080S if holds same price, so no remorse from me, we really are only talking about naming. I know the 4070tiS is going to be much better.
Like i said we aren't dissing the product.

                  • @maverickjohn: No what you appear to be doing is complaining about the naming convention?
Who cares what they released and how they released it, nVidia have always shafted their customers, there is no getting away from that, but to say they shoulda, coulda, well that's not the reality we live in.
nVidia are in the business of selling GPUs, and anyway they like to sell them is the way they will.
