Wrong Cashback from ShopBack Sony Cyber Monday

Just wondering if someone here can help.

I bought an expensive camera ($2700) from sony online on 27/11/2023, during the Cyber Monday event when shopback had 10% cashback from Sony with $200 cap.

However, only about $50 tracked on shopback, when it supposed to be $200.

I wrote to them and they said cameras and lens on that day were only 2%, whereas rest of products were 10%.

I have no recollection of seeing that exclusion, stupid of me didn't take a screenshot of the cashback info at the time.

I just can't believe it. I have been looking at sony cashback for a long time, waiting for the right time to buy. I have never ever seen camera being excluded from upsized cashback from sony. In fact, i have never ever seen sony having seperate cashback amounts for different products (like what Amazon has), it's always exclusion (PlayStation, etc.). It has to be a mistake.

Does anyone have any idea how to deal with this.
Or anyway to check the sony cashback info on that day, i just can't believe i could have missed that cameras were only 2%.

(I scour the ozbargain website and couldn't find anything useful. I also asked shopback for actual screenshots, but they said they don't have anything with a date on it.)

cameras and lens on that day were only 2%, whereas rest of products were 10%.

I have seen this, this could be correct. I always consider cashback as a bonus when considering such a purchase. I dont influence my purchase on cash back.

Whenever cashrewards is challenged with similar scenarios on ozbargain TA is able to present evidence from the systems backend to show the conditions of the cash back.

Perhaps @gotyourback can do the same.

Edit : sorry boomramada it wasn't meant to be a reply to you.

No, you can't say that people bought Boost SIM, Pizza Hut deals not due to 100%+ cashback.

Sounds about right…. They pocket the $150 as part of how they make money.

How else are they meant to give people $2 bonus all the time for leaking their data constantly?

  • The amount of undue refusals I've had from shopback is astounding, they are the dodgiest company and rely on the long approval period for customers to lose track of what they purchased and were entitled to.

Cashrewards isn't much better. Both seem to always miss the 'big' cashbacks for whatever reason ;)

Agreed, Shopback has gone downhill recently. A load of cashbacks that have not tracked. Others that are getting rejected and when filling out the missing cashback, they take a long time and and also being rejected, for some that have been accepted, they come through at a reduced cashback when they were purchased during promos.

The way they are going, am expecting that several more cashbacks to be declined or rejected. Also had an issue where cashback was confirmed in email, but not showing up on the website cashback overview.

Have not had issues with Cash Rewards or Top Cashback.
