I have the exact mug and it's great. Good price, OP

    • I have a similar sized thermos and am still debating pulling the trigger on this one :)

      • I caved and bought one!

        • +1

You won't regret it. It's a buy it for life purchase.

  • I believe it was actually available at around $10 during the recent amazon clearance but nonetheless a good bottle

    • When?! Man, that would've been a great deal

    • Not sure if you're referring to this price … but they're not the exact same style?

  • Champagne is $36.16

    • Says, only 1 left in stock. I ordered one…still says only 1 left on stock. I ordered another, still says, only 1 left on stock

    • +9

      Japanese engineering

      • -5

        Ahhh, so you mean Daihatsu?

    • +1

i havent used a yeti but i have this zojirushi and it keeps my drinks ice cold for nearly 24 hrs

      • -2

Tested the yeti with ice and still had ice after 18 hrs in a car parked under direct sunlight at 34 degrees

    • +2

      Not spill proof

      • -2

        The lid is spill proof

        • +3

          Reviews say no shrugs emoji

          • -1

@serpserpserp: I have it. I have tested it. Its spill proof, even though yeti say its splash resistant only

            • +1

@easternculture: So if you hold upside down, not a drip comes out? Zojirushi doesn't drip a single drop.

Also yeti clear lid can flip off. Zojirushi screwed on.

    • +3

Would you chuck this in a bag with your laptop? These are 2 very different products.

      • -1

Probably not. Buy i wouldnt chuck any bottle (spill resistant or not) with my electronics.

        • +1

Like peskyMatt said, very different products. I commuted for a number of years with two Zojirushi thermos in my laptop bag (one with hot coffee and one with a cold smoothie). Never leaked a drop, even though I forgot to flip the release lock at times.

Calling these a 'mug' probably isn't accurate, they're just single serve/mini insulated bottles, really good ones. I've got another mug that's much closer to the yeti in design and although it's pretty well sealed and has held liquid in even when I've dropped it, there's no way I'm putting it in a bag full.

        • +1

Zojirushi = no problems chucking it in bag with electronics. It won't leak

          • -4

@dangerdanger: Until it leaks and you post the forum topic "Zojirushi mug leaked in my laptop bag and destoyed my $6k Macbook Pro, what do i do?"

    • +1

Because the Yeti rambler doesn't keep liquids hot. Any mug from zojirushi, contigo, etc will do better.

Yeti are for posers. My last purchase was for 160 Yetis, but not my first choice for myself.

    • +22

Drinking water is a very small thing, but Zojirushi has evidently perfected it. For example, it allows you to complete the entire drinking process with just one hand, and the force and angle at which the lid pops open are just right. The amount of force needed to close the lid is also well-balanced. In addition, the drinking spout is designed with dedicated air holes for air exchange, ensuring a smooth flow of water without gushing out in bursts. This is something other cups cannot achieve.

I have been using this mug for over 5 years, and now I can tell you that I cannot live without it, nor do I want other mugs. I used to believe one-hand drinking is no big deal, but now I cannot go back at all. This is so useful and literally has become a natural reflex whenever I want to drink. It allows me to continue focusing on what I'm doing when drinking without interrupting my thoughts (like when I'm coding, driving, etc), also it allows me to drink water with just one hand while soothing my baby.

      • +6

Holy shit, I am so sold.

        • +1

It's also lightweight and the walls are thin so the external volume isnt much more than the internal volume for storing more liquid without taking up more room. And it has a locking mechanism so the lid can't accidentally flick open inside a bag. And the lid can be easily pulled apart and put back together to clean it thoroughly.

      • +1

        Sold, and bought!

      • +1

I was always curious about the zojirushi bottles and I credit your write up as finally pulling the trigger.

      • I bought a Zojirushi in Japan in 2019 and part of the lid mechanism broke quickly once back in Australia, requiring buying a very expensive spare part.
I like the size but my fave bottle are the Contigo Westloop Autoseal for ease of drinking (and volume of liquid poured when drinking)

      • Great description. What about the plastic bits around the entrance or the plastic lid? Wouldn't that be an issue when using for boiling hot liquids?

      • I have had 3 of the Thermos ones for exactly what you're describing….one hand sippage all the way for the win!!!

I do want to try the Zojirushi ones when the time comes.

  • Thanks man. Ordered a champagne gold. :😀

  • +1

Smokey blue at $39 looks nice too

  • +7

These are great, but they're absolutely not a mug.

  • +4

One of the must buys on ozbargain! Bought this back in 2018 and it’s still going strong. Can’t really comment on use for cold drinks, as I have other insulated bottles that are better suited for cold drinks, but I use mine during winter and at times it’s kept tea bad coffee still relatively warm after 36 hours. Looks sleek and modern and fits into your office aesthetic too, highly recommend!

    • any problems with flavour imparting on the metal or anything, e.g. black coffee not washing out and tainting the taste of plain water?

  • -8

Reverse image search on Aliexpress shows that probably identical item can be had for $15.48.

    • +9

It's probably not authentic from Aliexpress. Just noticed it took you over 7 years to make your second comment here lol.

  • good deal, but i got a stanley for christmas. im all set mate

  • +3

Theres something about this particular brand of flask - I've probably tried / been gifted around a dozen different flasks over the years and have chucked all of them except the zojirushi. People might raise their eyes at the price of these things, but you'll be using them for years. You'll make a coffee in the morning for work and its still hot the next morning. Chuck this in your laptop bag with all your paper work junk with no worries - these things don't spill.

    • +2

I did a test with 100c boiled water and about 6 different flask brands. The usual suspects Thermos, Zoji etc. 48 hours later the Thermos and Zoji was lukewarm and there was one brand that was nice drinkable hot, i think over 50c still. That brand was Camel which is still made in Hong Kong. It's a glass with silver lining vacuum flask, whereas the others are steel vacuum. It was the most cool to touch all round and the other brands were noticeably warmer near the neck.

      • +1

I wouldn't trust myself with a glass thermos; I barely trust myself with my double wall coffee glasses.

        • They're all steel on the outside so pretty safe.

  • Love these bottles and would highly recommend. I have two already so probably don't need more.

Last year I asked for a yeti for Christmas as I thought the rambler with hot shot lid would do the same thing but be more barista friendly due to its more mug like shape. Didn't keep my drink hot for half as long as the zojirushi, was so disappointed.

  • Been using this same one since about 2007. Never tested the heat retention but keeps my coffee almost too hot even by the end of the day.

We have 2 kids and have gone through dozens of other brands for them but I'll always stick to Zojirushi.

  • Had one of these for 3 years, amazing coffee flask. Never leaks, so can be in bag with computer. Make coffee at home, bike into work with coffee in backpack, get decent coffee at work!

  • Shame the smaller 12oz isn't on special. Better for my long blacks

  • Owala is better

  • +2

It is really sad to see Zojirushi quality control is all over the place in recent times. The newer ones are not made to last. I have few which I bought back in 2013 still going strong but the ones got recently especially from Amazon had nothing but issues, either they leak or they don’t keep the content warm/cold for more than 3 hrs. I would buy Thermos instead as you can return them if faulty.

  • Prime sub ended so added a Tiger thermos to get free shipping

  • Hi all, I’ve had mine for a few years and initially stopped using because of the time taken to disassemble and reassemble the elaborate seals. But I started just chucking the whole lid assembly open into the dishwasher and it has stood the test of time. Interested in what other people do?

Also, the paint has started to peel because of dishwasher washing, but most bottles do this (only ones that haven’t yet are tiger, yeti and Kleen kanteen Matt black insulated). Agree with all the one handed drinking comments, well engineered and secure.

    • Was about to ask re dishwashing. Would prefer something i can unscrew and chuck in the load to wash. Any other suggestions?

Get Kinto Travel Tumbler when on sale around $35

  • The best brand you can buy for insulated bottles. I have this one and the 2L one, they stay cold well over a day.

  • +4

    Thoughts on this one?
    https://www.amazon.com.au/Zojirushi-SM-VA72WA-Vacuum-Bottle-…

    $48 for the 28 oz / ~830 ml version.
    Was looking for something bigger.

    • Can that fit in a car cup holder?

      • get the car bottle holder from kmart then it might

    • I'm looking for a 600ml version at a decent price. Can only find one in a horrid vivid orange colour so far.

      • What is a decent price for 600ml?
It looks like a regular price ~$50 AUD (shipped from Amazon Japan).

        • Is that for one with slicksteel interior like the one in this deal? I don't want one with non-stick interior coating. All the 600ml ones I could find were over $60 except for the "vivid orange" one. $50 is pretty good if you have a link?

  • Japanese engineering sold and shipped from US lol should be cheaper if shipped from JP. Looks good from the comments.

  • Picked one of these up. Only because I bought one of their ridiculously well engineered rice cookers recently and am now a fan boy.

  • +1

Made in Thailand unfortunately will never see flasks made in Japan ever again. 2015 was last time I saw any brand made in Japan

The best one is actually Odajima double steel Slim SL-600 Active24 made in Japan. Bought since 2015 built to last even better than any tiger or this brand

You cannot buy them any more. No longer made. 8 years still going strong

Have the one posted as OP 3-4 years not keeping up anymore

    • You can buy Jap made ones. But you need to almost pay double. For your typical Aussies who mainly just shop at kmart, you wouldn't buy it even if you saw it.

  • Hand wash only? Is there anything wrong if put the lid in the top drawer of the dishwasher? All my drinking bottles/thermos lids are dishwasher safe.

  • +1

    $37.10 now thx OP

  • $52.40 to me for some reason. Not sure why

  • Showing as $52.40 for me

  • This was a "X of Y claimed" deal at the time, guess it's expired.

  • -4

You are bloody kidding me it finally arrived today and on the box it has a warning label for P 65 which is a warning for cancer and reproductive harm products where they exceed a threshold and have to be labelled. this product has enough chemical composition to have a label that warns you using. The product has been linked to cancer and reproductive harm to both men and women. I have now started a return process as this is not on the Amazon listing via beware, do not purchase this product, I can’t believe this was a top deal and that nobody has mentioned it yet

    • +1

Too late for you to not get your knickers in a twist, but I would advise some reading and understanding of Prop 65 before you go all ballistic over it.
Prop 65 is well intended, but a poorly implemented law by California.

Here is the list of all chemicals that would trigger a Prop 65 label - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_65_list…
As an example of how bad this law is, let's look at two.

Acrylamide - "Baking, grilling or broiling food causes significant concentrations of acrylamide. This discovery in 2002 led to international health concerns. Subsequent research has however found that it is not likely that the acrylamides in burnt or well-cooked food cause cancer in humans; Cancer Research UK categorizes the idea that burnt food causes cancer as a "myth".[9]

The American Cancer Society says that laboratory studies have shown that acrylamide is likely to be a carcinogen, but that as of 2019 evidence from epidemiological studies suggests that dietary acrylamide is unlikely to raise the risk of people developing most common types of cancer.[8]"

So, if you had ever eaten potato chips, guess what you are more than likely consuming…. yep, Acrylamide.

Nickel - Nickel compounds are classified as human carcinogens[125][126][127][128] based on increased respiratory cancer risks observed in epidemiological studies of sulfidic ore refinery workers.[129] This is supported by the positive results of the NTP bioassays with Ni sub-sulfide and Ni oxide in rats and mice.[130][131] The human and animal data consistently indicate a lack of carcinogenicity via the oral route of exposure and limit the carcinogenicity of nickel compounds to respiratory tumours after inhalation.[132][133] Nickel metal is classified as a suspect carcinogen;[125][126][127] there is consistency between the absence of increased respiratory cancer risks in workers predominantly exposed to metallic nickel[129] and the lack of respiratory tumours in a rat lifetime inhalation carcinogenicity study with nickel metal powder.[134] In the rodent inhalation studies with various nickel compounds and nickel metal, increased lung inflammations with and without bronchial lymph node hyperplasia or fibrosis were observed.[128][130][134][135] In rat studies, oral ingestion of water-soluble nickel salts can trigger perinatal mortality in pregnant animals.[136] Whether these effects are relevant to humans is unclear as epidemiological studies of highly exposed female workers have not shown adverse developmental toxicity effects

You will see in many cooking related pots on here how people will not want an item with PTFEs (teflon type coating) because they do not want to deal with those chemicals, fine. Many look to stainless steel as the alternative for "healthy cooking". Guess hwat metal is in stainless steel, yep, Nickel is. Yoou can get stainless Steel coking items that are "Nickel Free", my Solidteknics stainless stuff is all "no nickel" hence it's called NoNi. However, this "nickel free' stainless steel, still has nickel, just has it below a certain PPM to allow it to be marketed as something it really isn't.

So, calm you head, your Prop 65 label will, by law, mention the exact chemical that is a concern, however, it will only mention one of those chemicals, and then it doesn't have to mention any others that may be there. You can look up that chemical, and make an informed decision rather than banging on your drums in an ignorant fashion.

Edit: found this from Zojirushi America Corporation on Amazon in regards to a bottle like this: https://www.amazon.com/ask/questions/Tx2WI22LWBN4KCO/

"Thank you for your inquiry. Proposition 65 enables Californians to make informed decisions about their exposures to certain chemicals.
The stainless steel in the interior of the vacuum mug and spring in the lid contains nickel. Nickel is an important alloying element in food-grade stainless steel. It provides high anti-corrosive properties to the stainless steel (surgical steel contains nickel). The sticker on the bottom of the outside of the vacuum mug contains DBP. Please note that the bottom of the vacuum mug does not come in to direct contact with food or beverage. For further information, please go to www.P65Warnings.ca.gov

Please note that the warning does not mean that our products will necessarily cause harm or that they violate any product-safety standards by the FDA. In fact, the California government has clarified that “the fact that a product bears a Proposition 65 warning does not mean by itself that the product is unsafe.”
