I gess I'm just tryna say I love good movies and I hope this is a good one 2 😎

        • Trying to say it in a foreign language apparently.

    • +8

This movie is rated 15+. You shouldn’t be watching it. Lots of blood.

    • That’s good satire.

      • -1

You remain the only person who got it.

    • "I herd this movie go for longer than even avenger endgame???!!!"

that one's only 3 hours 1 min according to IMDB.

    • We get it, you’re a film cONnOiSsEuR who only likes Blu-Rays because quality. You made yourself very clear in the other thread. Give it a rest, Ebert.

      • -1

I see you're very secure in yourself

    • Dope bro, i got yew, dis moofie go longa dan a post made by sumwun hoo dun no English propurlee.
I hope I mite be Apple TV better than Pear TV ha ha

  • Long but wasn’t intolerable; not A-tier Scorsese but I liked it a lot more than The Irishman. 3 leads are great, Brendan Fraser less so.

  • +5

Wow no comments saying “how is this a bargain”. Have we finally moved past this already? I dreamt about this day since I was a wee bub

    • Irishman was unwatchable
      This was good imo

  • +3

A bit of a confronting watch, but me and gf enjoyed it a lot.

    • +1

My mom shit herself at the start when the Osage woman with the baby was shot in front of her own house. I didn't tell her the kind of movies Marty usually makes, lol

      • doesn't sound too bad. can't remember the movie but another western era movie I watched had a woman give birth while on the toilet (out house) and she basically just dumps it down with the shit she just took. it wasn't a horror/mind twisting type film either, just a drama so they didn't "emphasise" the scene or have some kind of lingering shot they just showed her chuck it down there through the hole and the next shot was her walking out of the out house and the rest of the story went on lol. kinda just matter of fact like yeah this was normal back in the day.

  • There’s a 2 month free Apple TV deal somewhere

    • my 2 months I got with giftcard redemption just ended. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/809793

what was frustrating was I had added Killers of the Flower moon to "up next" over 6 months ago, then when I started the latest free 2 months it said "Coming soon to Apple TV+" so I thought oh yeah it will be available to watch in 2 months. literally on the day the free 2 months was going to end it popped up "available to watch" YES! I thought, only to go to the movie where it said "Buy $29.99, Rent $24.99" or whatever the prices were. major disappointment. so just so others know, when it says "coming soon" it really means "coming soon to rent or buy", then you have to wait again maybe another month correction I think 2 weeks wait since my 2 months ended - to actually watch it for free on Apple TV+.

oh well hopefully in 6 months time when I can claim another 1 or 2 free months I can watch it together with Napoleon.

  • When will they make a movie about white people killing Aboriginal Australians?

    • When we make a law saying they have to have X% of Australian made content. Though I wonder if every country had a law that 15% must be local content, then wouldn't that mean the streamers would have to remove content from every country in order to get that 15%?

      • It's already 55% for TV networks, and from mid-this year, new law will force streamers to make a reported 20% (unconfirmed the actual figure) Australian content.

        • I hope they have some way to factor all the other content out there so our subscriptions don't have anything excluded. Is it for new content only? Even then we'd miss out on new content from around the world just to meet the 20% quota. It's a sensible law though imo, silly for us to be giving American companies millions a year and having Australian arts suffer for it.

    • +1

      Isn’t that every Australian movie?

      • I don't remember that part of Yahoo Serious's Mr Accident.

    • What's that got to do with this movie?

    • +1

When will they make a movie about the CCP arbitrary detention of Uyghurs in state-sponsored camps, forced labor, suppression of Uyghur religious practices, political indoctrination, forced sterilization, forced contraception, and forced abortion, or what about Mao's and CCP Great Famine, or Mao’s Cultural Revolution?

      • -1

WTF has this got to do with an American western?

      • No one did anything about Tibet, Tiananmen square, or HK. Nothing with happen for the Uyghurs, the Muslims don't even care. I don't like it but it just is.
        Totally OT. Sorry OzB.

    • You have never seen Crocodile Dundee?

  • +4

Apple TV+ has some great shows.

    • MANY great shows :)

    • +3

We think you’re going to love it!

    • +2

Yeah Hijack was a good one I watched recently. Any recommendation? I don’t have apple tv to browse but have plex 👀

      • Silo, Shrinking, Foundation, Ted, Still.
Apple TV+ didnt have much when it first started, but it is now on the same tier as Disney plus.

        • +2

          For all Mankind

      • +2

        Severance by far.

  • -2

How's this a bargain? New episode of Simpsons coming next week too?

    • +2

It is currently 29.99 to buy, and 24.99 to rent. So it is a heads up for anyone that plans to purchase or rent the title.

      • Thx, cheaper to rent.

    • +2

      Yaaaaaaawn.

Here, something to keep you on the ball: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/%5BSUBS%5D%20bargai…

    • +1

It's still in cinemas in Adelaide. It's the newest Scorcese movie. How is this not a bargain?

      • +5

Terminator 2 is still in the cinemas in Adelaide

        • Where, at the Palace? I should go see it.

      • But Adelaide is years behind the rest of the country?

        • I heard Terminator 2 is still in cinemas in Adelaide, so yes.

    • Oh you destroyed my dream for a better world

    • +1

      Simpsons suck now.

  • +1

    All the comments. Happy now?

  • -1

This is my 11th-favourire Martin Scorsese directed film.

  • +3

Stremio with torrentio and real debrid is the real bargain

  • How's the movie, any good? The trailers make it seem like it's worth a watch but it's almost 3.5hrs long

  • +3

Massive Scorsese fan. Watched this in the cinema but was disappointed - run time was far too long and seemed like DiCaprio was just going through the motions. Gladstone and De Niro were standouts (De Niro is 80!).

Maybe this will work better in the home viewing environment, I don't know. While better than The Irishman, it pales in comparison to Taxi Driver or Raging Bull or Goodfellas.

    • +3

I'm in the minority, it seems, who liked The Irishman. Liked it a lot. Watched the entire film in a single sitting.

      • +1

Irishman is a fantastic movie and the reflection of a man looking at his past work, the sacrifices to get to that point, and what’s left of the future.

    • +1

Big fan of After Hours and Mean Streets too.

  • +4

Had to watch this over 2 days.

3.5 hours is just taking the piss

    • Agreed, it did drag pretty badly. Oppenheimer was the same length but flowed properly

      • Agreed. For what it's worth, Nolan knows how to keep pace, even in potentially over-long movies. Scorsese on the other hand…. needs a slap from his editor.

  • +2

Try not be dissuaded by the adverts, it's not as politically heavy handed as it appears. Another one of Scorseses crime epics.

    • Can you find the wolves in this picture?

  • Leo’s best movie?

    • +1

Inception, Wolf of Wall Street, The Departed, The Revenant, Catch Me if You Can, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

      • "Catch Me if You Can"

I thought that one had tom hanks and matt damon. welp shows how much I know about movies. 😭

        • It's such a fun film. And with a great cast.

          • @Charlie Dont Surf: yeah I think maybe I got mixed up with another "Imposter chase" movie. after searching for it and failing I might be thinking of "The Talented Mr Ripley". Tom hanks isn't even in that one. 🙁

            • @harshbdmmaster718: They were in Saving Private Ryan together, I remember that!

              • +1

@Charlie Dont Surf: "They were in Saving Private Ryan together,"

yeah that's what 90% of the results were .

Private Ryan get's so much mentions and wins popularity. but for some reason I think Malick's The Thin Red Line is my favourite war film. that final moment when they get to the top of the hill (and have basically won the enemy's surrender) and the state of confusion and anarchy the soldiers were in hit me really hard. like the way it bulids everything up until that point was "for this" I thought was well done.

by the way to find Malick's name I googled "pretentious director" lol.

                • @harshbdmmaster718: I liked that film very much. Going down a real rabbit-hole talking about favourite war films! But, ummm, look at my profile photo for a hint ;) There's so many great ones though. In recent years, I thought 1917 was weak, but the remake of All Quiet was pretty solid. I didn't like Dunkirk - might be in the minority there.

Saving Private Ryan of course had that unforgettable fight (slaughter) sequence when they landed at the beach, it's unparallelled, but overall the film had a pretty weak plot and it was overly sentimental for my harsh tastes.

                  • @Charlie Dont Surf: "Going down a real rabbit-hole talking about favourite war films! But, ummm, look at my profile photo for a hint ;)"

yeah I noticed that. I love Apocalypse Now. I bought the "Final Cut" version (just confirmed by checking the cover) on DVD because I couldn't find it anywhere else at the time. I just read now there is a Redux but it isn't reviewed well which is probably why I went with the Final Cut. (and to explain why DVD, 1. it was cheaper, 2. I had a DVD player which upscales to 720p, and my TV is only 1080p anyway so no point getting any higher than that).
some are saying Theatrical cut is the best, and I have to agree that it felt very complete and was the one I watched in the first place that made me love the movie.

if any trivia I know about it, I think I read somewhere Marlon Brando was well into his success as an actor and it was very typical for him to not learn his lines properly and be difficult on set. I think Coppola himself said Brando would randomly start mumbling on set even while they were filming and some of these parts made it into the movie because it added to his character lol.

I liked all Quiet too. haven't watched 1917. watched Dunkirk, don't remember much which can't be good.

                    • @harshbdmmaster718: You might want to chase up "Hearts of Darkness" (Hearts, not Heart) which is a documentary film about the making of the film. It's absolutely incredible! So much stuff went down trying to get Apocalypse Now made. Absolute mayhem. It will blow your mind! The best documentary about a film that you'll ever see :)

                      • @Charlie Dont Surf: "You might want to chase up "Hearts of Darkness" (Hearts, not Heart) which is a documentary film about the making of the film."

sounds very familiar. I swear I have added that to my wishlisht/up next for either SBS on demand or Prime Video, but then it quickly expired and was no longer available to watch. will have a go at searching it up again.

                  • @Charlie Dont Surf:

Going down a real rabbit-hole talking about favourite war films!

JoJo Rabbit seems a suitable mention then ;)

                  • @Charlie Dont Surf: Dark Blue World is still my go to. The last time we'll see a WW2 movie with live flying

                    • @OwMeKnees: "The last time we'll see a WW2 movie with live flying"

this one wasn't WW2 but I thought the flying shots in Maverick was amazing pretty sure they were all live action too. so immersive and have to say that movie gets a 10/10 for me in terms of movies. enjoyment, camera work, story never lost energy or speed and the way it just doesn't let off the action even until the very last moment. maybe the only negative about it was probably how some people will say it's pro military pro war propaganda, but I don't care about that stuff (politics).

I haven't seen the original Top gun but I was told I could watch Maverick without having seen the old movie and I was so impressed. awesome movie.

  • What is the usual price?

    • $24.99 to rent.

on Apple TV+ free to stream in 6 days. not forever though.

it's fair to compare it to rent because you don't get to watch the movie forever on Apple TV+. every streaming service has a day their license for the movie ends, and it's up to them to license it again if they want to keep streaming it. I dunno though Apple makes this movie seems like a "Apple produced" movie so it might stick around for stream longer.

      • +1

It will be part of Apple TV+’s permanent catalogue, they financed the whole thing exactly for that reason.

        • ok sure just not sure what's happening with Apple TV at the moment. the most recent tvOS update basically removed access to the entire iTunes store (movie rentals/buys) and everything is only accessible through the Apple TV app which has terrible sorting and no wishlist (well there is a horizontal scrolling "up next" but having 20 movies added there already and it's a nightmare to navigate because it shows so little).

I posted this warning as a comment on a Apple TV deal because if you update to the latest tvOS it removed your iTunes movie app wishlist. I had 100's of movies added to that wishlist which was easy to navigate and check when certain movies were on sale for 99c/$3 new release rentals. that all disappeared, but I checked yesterday and they restored just the wishlist in the iTunes Movies App so at least you can access it again for now (they may remove it at any moment though).

before they restored the wishlist I thought we had lost it forever, so my assumption was that all iTunes movie rental/buy options would soon become "free to watch on Apple TV+" and then they would just increase the monthly subscription price a little bit. but now that wishlist is back, and I can still access rentals I don't know what is happening.

          • @harshbdmmaster718: Yeah, that is a bit of a mess, they basically started transitioning people still purchasing or renting movies in the iTunes Store app over to the Apple TV app without having everything in place.

It doesn't help that there are three distinct products all called Apple TV:
            - Apple TV set top box
            - Apple TV app
            - Apple TV+ streaming service

Although there's some overlap, they are very different things. It's not hard to imagine a lot of people getting confused which is which.

            • @lint: "It doesn't help that there are three distinct products all called Apple TV:
              - Apple TV set top box
              - Apple TV app
              - Apple TV+ streaming service"

yeah well I have an Apple TV so it's a bit less confusing for me. it's just:
              - Apple TV App (which up until now just thought of a "all in one place" App which combines iTunes purchases/Apple TV+/and any other streaming services you are subscribed too/can subscribe too).
              - Apple TV+ streaming service - which is separate and even available to people who don't have an Apple TV.
              - iTunes Movies (recently almost killed) - a place separate from Apple TV+ streaming service where you can just purchase and watch any movie/show with once off purchase.

if anything I have to say \in the Apple TV app, they shouldn't have integrated all the other streaming services (Stan, Netflix, AMC, Disney+ etc) when they already have installable apps for each of those streaming services anyway. having all those streaming services in the App makes it even more cluttered than it already is, and when subbing to them "through Apple" you basically only get a 1 week trial for each one, when it's usually 1 month trial if you download the app and do it that way.

  • Movie ratings are bollox and meaningless.

I've enjoyed movies that have been absolutely panned by critics and interest experts and other movies that have stellar ratings, I've found to be garbage.

Watch what you want and form your own opinion.

    • +1

I loved this film, but yeah, I agree with this. So many low rated movies (and games and music) I've utterly loved, and highly rated ones I've groaned at.

People put way too much stock in what other people think in all aspects of life. It's liberating breaking away from it.

  • +1

I was a bit hesitant about this movie due to the length, but eventually saw it at the cinema and honestly wasn't aware of the time passing. It was really engrossing.

Also the cinema ticket was a lot cheaper than renting the movie via Apple TV, and it's hardly the sort of film you'd see more than once, so I don't see the advantage of hiring it over seeing it at the cinema?

    • +1

It’s streaming at no additional charge on Apple TV+ from Jan 12.

      • Ah right, I had assumed that the quoted rental price related to the Apple TV+ streaming.

  • I saw this at the new IMAX in Sydney. It was one of the best movies of 2023, but the runtime may be too long for many people.

  • +1

contact me for plex share … seen it already

  • Sadly it wasn't that great a film it was hyped up to be. And I usually like these type of long films
