  • Has anyone tried/ can recommend from the last deal?

I picked up the last deal..

I am unsure about whether I could recommend. I usually love alcoholic ginger beer and I assumed I was buying alcoholic ginger beer.. but these are made with wine or something instead and aren't a ginger beer with vodka or whatever added in.

Definitely does not taste like the usual suspects, but more like a white wine with ginger flavour? I don't drink whites no I'm not fully certain on that haha

It was definitely not unpleasant, and I had no issues finishing a can.. just not sure how I'll go with the 2 slabs!

The back of the can calls it wine

some reviews here on the last deal's page - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/820169?page=1#comment - eg "taste wise, it's almost like hard solo with a hint of ginger".

also 9 reviews on the website - most of which would be from the deal https://sofispritz.com/products/oto-cocktail-cans-ginger-cas…

      hope that helps

I can say the "wine flavour" is definitely there, but if you're putting it on a handful of ice and adding a slice of lime, it's not bad. Definitely not the same as alcoholic Bundaberg ginger beer (if there was such a thing), or Brookvale union, but I personally think it's decent for the $60 asking price.
I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole at $120/case. That's an insanity price for what this is.

Bundaberg have been making an alcoholic ginger beer for a while now, just FYI.

It's not terrible, no Royal Jamaican though.

      • Agree

It has a very different taste compared to what I thought it would be

    8% cans? Noice.
    Ginger? Not so noice.

Were these ever really $120? Last post was Buy 1 Get 1 Free - 2 Cases for $120 so using math it's the same price per case.

    • yep its the same promo price due to the same labelling issue - we had a few people ask for half price instead of 2-4-1 so thought we would do it this way this time especially as out of eskies

      • But I never asked if it was the same promo.

      • Were these ever sold at $120/case?

        • +1

yes they were and will continue to be after this promo ends and labelling issue sorted

Doesnt taste great unfortunately. Bought two slabs from last deal and struggling to get through. Might be the real reason why they are heavily discounted

    • +3

I ended up mixing mine with soda water or lemonade

  • Tasted crap sorry, will give this one a pass this time. Will stick to bundaberg and vodka.

I enjoy them, not as sweet as normal ginger beer and can actually taste the ginger.

  • +1

Agreeing with the other comments about the wine base making it a bit less appealing than normal ginger beers. Have found adding some mint leaves helps with the taste

To everyone saying this doesn't compare to other ginger beers… This isn't ginger beer - the title on the website is ginger cocktail. Drinking it and expecting it to be ginger beer and comparing to other ginger beers is apples and oranges.

Anyway, I enjoy it. And 2.1 standards per can? Yes please 😆
